[All things with a "*" are supplied by the police department, and technically belong to them, not Detective Hunter. She has a regulation-issue stunner on the job, and a personal one off it, so she pays for that.] All her department weapons have a small bioscanner, and will not fire for anyone who isn't a pre-programmed user - i.e, a member of the police department. Her electron pistol, additionally, will self-destruct if an unauthorized person tries to fire it in Blast or Kill modes, after a noisy 9 second countdown (starting at "1" and going boom at the 10th second. It doesn't mention that it's a second off from "count of ten," either).

Conversions

Fantasy:

A member of the City Guard - no longer a "beat cop" version, but someone who investigates robberies, murders, and other crimes where the criminal managed to escape the scene. Change her skills to match the tech level, and change her Purge Wonder Glands to a level or two of Magic Resistance.

Modern:

Samantha will carry a gun and wear Kevlar rather than a stunner and Energy Cloth, but otherwise there are few changes. Fix the TL skills and turn the Wonder Glands into something like Strong Will.

Near Future:

Few changes here, too. Depending on the tech available, Detective Hunter may even be able to keep her Purge Wonder Glands.

Samantha Hunter is fairly typical of police detectives on the lost human coloney world of New Garavar, though she's a bit young for her rank (when the average citizen is functioning quite well at age 100 . . . ). Like many of her fellow police-people, she's equipped with Wonder Glands - when a small bioscanner detects certain conditions, a drug called Purge is released into her bloodstream, giving her a good chance of shaking off the effects of various incapacitating drugs or alcohol. She's only got one dose of the stuff, but Purge isn't reliable in multiple, closely-timed doses anyway.

Forensics: Crime Scene specialization refers to the ability to preserve a crime scene from disturbances; examine surfaces and objects for fingerprints or footprints; gather blood, hair, or skin-flakes without contaminating them; spot fire-patterns in suspected arson cases, etc. It does not allow much knowledge about lab-work - especially the chemical analyses and detailed autopsy techniques - but will probably let Samantha note things like how close a weapon was to a victim (not all weapons have the obvious signs, of course), whether a victim struggled or not, if a robbery-scene doesn't match up with reports from witnesses, and similar "macroscopic" details.

One skill that she's going to need soon will be Interrogation (specializing in the "soft" techniques, not the "lead-lined rubber hoses" version); another is Psychology. Figure that she's been recently promoted, and will be picking these up quickly.

Detective Hunter can show up as the cop investigating something the PCs did that the GM doesn't want them getting away with (and remember - she's Stubborn and won't take well to being told to drop a case, even if someone can pull strings about it), as a detective (undercover or otherwise) who "sideswipes" the PCs' path while investigating something related to their problems, or in a police-oriented campaign, she could be one of the Allies.

Typical Quotes:

"Freeze! Police!"

"Detective Hunter, New Boston Police. Can I ask you some questions?"

"Juice, Ryan, and don't spike it - I'm not on vacation yet, so the wonderful wonder-glands are working."
