A while ago, I stumbled across this short article, about how – on April 18, 1930 – the BBC news service announced that there was
no news, and then proceeded to play music for the rest of the segment. As a gamer, my mind immediately pivoted to the possibilities of this preternaturally quiet, seemingly invisible day . . .

Battle jackets (or cutoffs, depending on your community and region) have long stood as a sartorial staple of a slew of subcultures. And as the TTRPG zine community has seen more aesthetic and community overlap with punk/metal/DIY music scenes (in large part thanks to the influence of Mörk Borg
and others in the OSR), battle jackets have been cropping up at conventions with increasing frequency.
The Stockholm Kartell team model their iconic matching battle vests.
The DIY elements of this style especially work for gamer geeks, as we tend to have multitudinous hobby skills just waiting for unique applications . . . such as unique appliqués
! . . .

One mind-blowing experience with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game
last millenium, if I remember correctly, was a sample script between a GM and players in which the eager heroes exclaim, "We attack the Star Destroyer!" The GM attempts to make sure they understand what they're undertaking and draws a large triangle taking up most of a sheet of paper. "This is the Star Destroyer," the GM says, "and this
. . ." – adding a tiny dot next to the giant triangle – ". . . is your ship." The players immediately respond along the lines of, "Evasive maneuvers! Let's get out of here!"
As a GM or player in an RPG, I'm often acutely aware of my own artistic failures . . .
