February 9, 2018: John Perry Barlow

John Perry Barlow was found dead early Wednesday morning, February 7. Reports are that he died in his sleep. He was 70.

Barlow was a co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an organization whose founding is inextricably bound to our own history at Steve Jackson Games. Over the years, he has been a staunch advocate for personal and privacy rights on the Internet. He has also been a cattle rancher and a Grateful Dead lyricist, because an intellect as formidable as Barlow's defies shallow or easy categorization.

John was a valued ally to all of us in the early days when an anarchic collective of servers took shape as an indispensable part of our everyday lives. Many of the things we take for granted today stemmed in part from his eloquent words and his tireless activism. He will certainly be missed as we continue to shape the Information Age.
