January 26, 2011: e23 Price Changes
During the e23 summit earlier this month, we talked about a wide variety of stuff. Unfortunately, all the discussions you want to hear about aren't ready for public consumption yet. There is one topic we spent a good deal of time on: pricing. It isn't sexy, but in the interest of transparency, we wanted to let you know what was decided.
While digital files don't have to worry about the cost of paper rising, each file does need to pay for the work that goes into it, and to contribute to the overhead of the business. These costs are increasing, so we needed to restructure our price points. This will result in a few products increasing in price. Specifically:
Going up from $4.99 to $5.99:
Going up from $9.99 to $10.99:
The price changes will go into effect on February 1, so if you've been thinking of adding any of these to your library, now is an excellent time to do so!
A couple of new price points were added, and will be used going forward: a $5.99 point for 21-29 page releases, $10.99 for 64-79 pages, and $12.99 for 96-111 pages. These are, of course, only the guidelines we use. Some projects will be priced lower than this; for instance, at 18 pages GURPS High-Tech: Weapon Tables should be $4.99, but we've priced that at $2.99. Similarly, a project which required an unusual number of man-hours and has a lower-than-usual expected sales rate may be shifted up a price point or two. And GURPS Classics will also be priced lower than the Fourth Edition originals.
If you have any questions or comments on e23 pricing, feel free to start a discussion on our forums!
