September 11, 2014: Steve Jackson And The Ice Bucket Challenge

Evil Stevie

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is serious business. Go read this explanation of what it is and why we need to do research on it, and then come back. I'll wait.

To help fight it, donors to the ALS Association are participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge. The Challenge gives you the choice of either contributing $100 to research, or donating $10 and helping to spread the word by posting video of yourself dumping ice water on your head and nominating more folks for the challenge.* It's a good cause, and participating can be a lot of fun.

I was nominated a while back, and this was my response.

Steve was nominated more recently, and his response was even better.

We're really proud we could contribute to something like this, and we hope we helped push research closer to finding a cure.

* Postscript from Steve: Of course, you can BOTH make a $100 donation and get stuff dumped on your head. I did. You should. I have read that some people are interpreting the challenge as "if you pour ice water on your head, you don't have to send a donation." I cry foul on this. Just clowning in public does not help find the cure. It's merely slacktivism, right up there with retweeting something about Africa and pretending you've actually done something to help.
