Eli : Creation Without A Cause

by GR "Maya" Cogman
(Habbalite of the Media)

I maintain that Daimon inspired me for this one, and that it's being bankrolled by the Kobalites to appeal to the intelligentsia...

Narrator: He's been running for a long, long time.

<scene>

Half-shot of a man sitting in a coffee-house somewhere, tuning his guitar, face turned away from the camera.

</scene>

Narrator : He's almost forgotten who or what he is.

<scene>

Same trenchcoated man, face still not visible, is busy sketching a wide and beautiful grafitti across the side of a subway tunnel. Some passers-by throw coins at his feet.

</scene>

Narrator : He's an artist, a creator, a lover...

<scene>

Scenes of the same man painting, sculpting, and sprawled in a disarrayed bed with a comfortable-looking woman.

</scene>

Narrator : ... and he's the Archangel of Creation.

<scene>

Eli, white wings outspread, poised above an evolving world, fragments of famous works of art flashing by in the background.

</scene>

Narrator : But that was long ago.

<scene>

Eli and Novalis sitting together at the Party in Novalis' Glade: she feeds him something with her fingers, and he laughs. The Council Spires visible in the distance.

</scene>

Narrator : Before things started going wrong.

<scene>

Michael, being hauled down in chains by Malakim of Judgement, with Dominic brooding in the background.

</scene>

Narrator : Very wrong.

<scene>

Cheerful, playful, innocent-looking creatures of myth and legend are driven across the Marches by scouring legions of angelic warriors, who slay till their armour is red with blood.

</scene>

Narrator : Before the things that he doesn't want to remember.

<scene>

Yves hunches in his chair in the Library, resembling a dessicated vulture, and murmurs to Dominic, "Once she speaks Heresy, then you can take her down. We cannot permit ... freethinkers."

</scene>

Narrator : And before he left.

<scene>

Eli, walking down a street in Heaven, rehearsing to himself, "And I am doing more for humanity than all you Archangels who sit in..." He turns the corner to find several Judgement Malakim waiting, with drawn swords. "... crap."

</scene>

<scene>

Novalis, leaning on a big fallen tree from under which protrude several black feathers and kicking feet, waves a handkerchief. "Remember to write, okay?"

</scene>

Narrator : It's a lonely life, out on his own...

<scene>

Eli, using a spraycan, is finishing painting, "Michael 4 Dominique," on the side of a cruise missile.

</scene>

<scene>

Several young women cluster adoringly round Eli's feet, watching as he plays the harmonica.

</scene>

Narrator : ... but he manages.

<scene>

Eli faces off a crowd of obvious Malakim, brandishing a bowl of noodles menacingly. They cower.

</scene>

<scene>

An expensive maitre d'hotel gawps at a large crowd of hippies and street artists, being led by Eli into an expensive dining room. "Dinner for _how_ many?"

</scene>

Narrator : Now, if he can stay ahead of everyone who's looking for him...

<scene>

Dominic menacingly addresses a crowd of Judgement-Servitors, all armed. "I want him back here. In chains. By any means necessary."

</scene>

Narrator : ... and work out where he's going ...

<scene>

Eli puts his feet up on a beanbag. "A land flowing with milk and honey, chocolate cappucino beans, backrubs, and little baggies of hash. Oh, and jazz. A lot of jazz."

</scene>

Narrator : ... he might have a hope in hell of getting there.

<scene>

Eli playing guitar with a band somewhere, jamming.

</scene>

<scene>

Novalis, to a younger Laurence in armour, "Leather. Trust me."

</scene>

<scene>

Dominic, to Eli, in Heaven, "Do you think that you can just walk away?"

</scene>

Narrator : But it's a long, hard road out of Heaven.

<scene>

Eli steps back from the finished mural he was working on earlier. It is a great wash of colour that forms into perspective as the camera draws back, becoming visible as two sleeping bodies entwined round each other.
