In the game I am running one of the human NPC's just lost a lot of pilots under his command during combat (yes a military back drop for the game) and so I have starting having a local Lilim of Gluttony getting him to try and eat away his guilt (eat whenever he feels guilty or bad about the dead pilots). Our heroes, having gained favor with the local Good and Godly Fae (tm), have in their possession a Compass Rose -- a glamourous item which will guide them to whatever they seek. However, to activate it they must state what they are seeking in a lyrical or otherwise creative format (fans of Changeling will notice that this bears an amazing similarity to performing a Bunk. This is deliberate.) Moe, in his first game with my group, is playing a fairly-standard Malakite of The Sword who has until recently been an NPC. As his character is the chivalrous, romantic type, and Moe is known as a creative genius, the group decides the smart thing to do is the Laurentine activate the device. Sometimes, one Prince's scheme ends up benefiting another Prince more. Akira was the product of one of the Laughing Prince's more glib moods, a deadly and brutal Calabite whose destructive nature is somewhat offset by his ludicrous appearance. Sent to Japan for no particular reason (that's Kobal's story anyway, and he's sticking to it) it wasn't long before his u n subtle tactics (even by Calabim standards) began to draw attention. It wasn't for several years, however, that someone in Hell noticed the "secondary effect" Akira's night-time crusades had engendered. Serving as a diabolical influence on the already rather disturbed minds of young Japanese cartoonits, Akira had inadvertently kickstarted a new style of animation. Kobal remains amused by his servitors efforts, but Nybbas is the demon of Manga's biggest fan, and has awarded him accordingly. An entire book would be needed to fully detail Manga Physics, but examples include: Everything is Combustible, The Bigger Things Are The Faster They Move, Hair Can Only Be Damaged by Bladed Weapons, etc. Riche H-R - -- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 15:24:53 -0400 From: "Adams, David" Subject: RE: IN> Angel of Limericks [You have been WARNED.] Well, it all started when we were asked by one of Eli's Angels to remove all of our weapons. It usually fails, painfully, and it's kind of hard to make the act, in itself, serve a demonic Word. That was why Rawree, Djinn of Dark Humour liked his idea so much; Kobal thought it had some irony in it too, and started on getting the resources together. Kobal, Kronos and Asmodeus are not demons you'd expect to be working together, but they are the ones you need for this trick. You need Malphas, too, and Vapula if you want the rubber science option. So who are we after? Well, it's an Archangel who is quite important to the functioning of heaven, and the main guardian against infiltration and subversion. But not many of his fellows actually like him, and if he goes missing for a day or two, they won't panic. Best of all, there's somewhere that he reliably shows up twice a week. Very convenient for Hell, too. So first, you have to get Daniel and Hutriel, the two Angels of Final Judgement who stand at the Gates of hell, out of the way. This isn't going to be especially easy. Rawree suggested the rubber science option, getting Vapula and Malphas to split time so that the angels get taken out during a piece of time that doesn't happen for most purposes. The alternative is to set them against each other in some way, which will require careful collaboration between Asmodeus and Malphas to find the right trick and exploit it. But it should be possible - those guys are tough, but they aren't Superiors. In any case, you need Kronos for high-quality ineffability to cover it up. You may actually need him to be one of the impersonators; Asmodeus or Baal for the other one, probably. Now, once you've got Dominic nicely confined, what happens? His servitors start noticing that he isn't turning up, but they aren't generally keen to question his actions, and he can't be invoked. So you may get as much as a week before someone senior in the Tribunal realises that something has to be wrong. The recording of the meeting of the Seraphim Council would be worth serious Distinction to any demon who delivers it to Hell and the bidding war between Kobal and Nybas could be very entertaining. Eventually, Heaven will start working on getting Dominic back, although some of the servitors of War may still be giggling. Now, we don't want them stamping in here trying to do it, so we need to have him here. Killing him, if we can manage it, would be worthwhile in some ways, but it leaves the angelic Word of Judgement lying around. So we want to strip everything we can off him, then hide him somewhere they'll never find him. Can Remnants have Words? Doing that, then hiding him somewhere people wear robes and never show their faces looks best. It would be even more entertaining to hide him amongst some group that never wears clothes, but we're sure his instinct to cover up would survive his Celestial and Ethereal forces. There's one trick he could play, though. And Kobal isn't pointing this out to anyone else. If Dominic put himself on trial for carelessness and negligence, and sentenced himself to have his Word stripped, that would get it out of our hands. Probably. And it would end up on one of his senior servitors. Probably. Dominic will probably think of this. Can one voluntarily give up one's word? Can Dominic use his word against himself, to keep it active? Could he bring himself to do it? Well, even if he can, it would be dead amusing. - --- John Dallman jgd@cix.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 21:27:23 +0100 From: "Genevieve Cogman" Subject: Re: IN> Scenario Seed: One of our Archangels is Missing Very nice! It might amuse you to know that Dominique gets kidnapped in the French version, INS/MV, too, in a certain published scenario. Only it's not the fault of Demon Princes -- it's due to the ambition of his own 2ic. You see, said 2ic has realised that he's never going to get a promotion. So he gets in contact with an organisation of sorcerers (called the Suicide Solution, or Security Society) who have a habit of making deals with Renegades, and proposes a bargain to them . . . (Brief diversion: in INS/MV both angels and demons can be summoned by any sorcerer who knows their True Name. If said angel/demon doesn't currently have a body on earth, they can be bound into some sort of body provided by the sorcerer, which may -- just possibly -- limit their capacities somewhat.) Now, the Suicide Solution's main shtick is offering Renegades from both sides a way out. The Renegade and the Suicide Solution will agree on a day, the Renegade will die in a nice public fashion (such as by the bullets of the Dominicans chasing him) and be promptly invoked into a new body by the sorcerers before he reappears Above or Below. He can then go about living a new life. (After a few minor payments, such as services, assistance, the true names of any other angels/demons which he knows, etc.) The Services Above or Below assume that he's lost somewhere in the bureaucratic shuffle when he doesn't show up Above or Below as an angel or demon, and don't worry about it. After all, they saw him get shot down, right? Right. So after making contact with the sorcerers, Dominique's 2ic goes into a dangerous situation with his boss (they've just got info on a nest of demons, supplied by guess who?) and the PCs as backup. The PCs get to see Dominique being jumped from behind by a huge renegade Baalite with a cursed apple-green chainsaw. (What a pity that the 2ic didn't quite react in time to support his boss.) But no real problem. Dominique will just reappear up in Heaven, tout suite. Only he doesn't. Days go by, and there is no sign of Dominique. Tragedy! Shock! Horror! (Fortunately, his 2ic is stepping into his shoes.) Unfortunately, there also seems to be someone hunting down and killing all the rank-and-file angels who were on the raid where Dominique himself got killed. But don't worry, the 2ic promises he'll get a working party together to investigate it. Any day now. At this point, the PCs (who should be getting suspicious) are approached by a ranking angel of Dominique who is also suspicious (and has been their mission assigner for a while, so they know they can trust her) and a ranking angel of Joseph (AA of the Inquisition, fun guy, really). They've twigged to some of what's going on, know about the Suicide Solution, and want the PCs to investigate. Now, where did I leave that bit of translation . . . "There is only one solution," says Emmanuel (who seems enchanted by the idea of toppling a powerful angel of Dominique): "you're going to have to pass yourself off as renegades, to be able to infiltrate the Suicide Solution." He continues, under the alarmed eyes of the PCs: "Therefore, from this moment on, you're all renegades. And as an angelic member of the Holy Inquisition, I formally accuse you of high treason against God the Father - I won't go into details for fear of boring you - and to speed things up, I add that I have just been the horrified witness of the collective rape which you will have undertaken, in precisely 34 seconds, of a fourteen-year-old nun, Sister Marie des Abeilles. You're a witness too, aren't you, Marie-Joseph?" He continues, without waiting for a reply: "I'm giving you five minutes lead, and I'll be sending a squad of angels of Laurent after you to make it look more realistic. Naturally they won't realise the full situation, and I'm afraid they'll be doing their best to kill you . . . Here's a card of the Security Society. You need only telephone them and say that you understand that they're looking into the disappearance of Serge Bayou, that you're renegades in danger of death, and that you need their help. We'll see what happens. Call me whenever you find out anything interesting. Right, synchronise watches. One, two, three . . ." (_Promotion Canopy_, or how to get volunteered) (He only gives them 3 minutes head start, too, just to make it look really realistic.) Okay, so the PCs (narrowly avoiding being brutally killed by Laurencians in Trenchcoats) make contact with the sorcerers, get shot down, get invoked into new bodies, and wake up on an island in the Bahamas, in a nice private compound with plenty of guards and several other newly-arrived Renegades. Eventually, they find Dominique . . . In the body of a giant tortoise. They just need to call in angelic help, rescue or kill the tortoise (killing it will free Dominique and let him reappear in Heaven) and survive . . . Genevieve (And yes, something very painful is going to happen to the 2ic when Dominique gets his hands on him . . .) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 16:04:06 -0500 From: "Prodigal" Subject: Re: IN> Fwd: The Demon of Manga From: "Elizabeth McCoy" > > Demon of Manga - Once a day, for the cost of 5 essence, Akira may impose Manga > Physics upon the world for a whole minute. Just get a bunch of demons that haven't committed that many crimes yet (kidnapping is less than murder, right?) to grab Dom. Still, just make sure to handpick the 'capture squad' from the demons that haven't 'qualified' for death by Heavenly Judgement yet, and it'd work...*And* doing so means Dom would be draining himself of Essence to try and hit every demon with it, until he figured out that it wouldn't work on anyone and went for Superior-level Songs like Cel Light. What was Nikki's Will again? Oh, yeah, right, lots. Language is unclear about how many he can zap with it, too: normally, I'd make a PC Dominican be satisfied with one or two, but Dominic _is_ an AA... 4) Superior-level multitasking. This is what makes the entire thing painfully fatal to anybody who hasn't undergone the Superior State Change. Who wants to bet that Nikki doesn't keep one avatar in Heaven at all times? Now, this is not to say that it still can't be done: it'll just require lots more planning, a bit more force and the personal intervention of _fighting_ DPs - - with the caveat that one of them might very well not come back (nobody's ever accused Malphas or Kobal or Kronos of being badass gun-bunnies)... While it has a certain appeal, I don't see Kronos getting close enough for Dominic to do this to him. It would make a good method of weeding out some of the servitors whose performance had displeased him, however... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 21:00:05 -0400 From: "William J. William ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Aug 2001 11:26:42 +1100 From: "james walker" Subject: IN> Fantasy Month - a pair of Norse tethers. These doesn't turn up often. For starters, even Woden/Odin isn't as powerful as he used to be. But they have potential: =========================================================================== There are a number of North Poles - in addition to the two geographical options, Greenland & Finland both have tourist traps claiming the title. THE North Pole, however, is part of Valhalla, and from it Odin rewards children who have been 'good' (ie sent him essence) with presents every Winter Solstice. It's an effective way of recruiting; Western children dream of Santa and presents every December, and some of them die in their sleep. A slow but reliable trickle of child Dream-Shades heads to Odin every year. There are other advantages: If an Ethereal with the Soul-Link Discord asks their attuned 'what would you like for [next] Christmas' they're off the hook for requests until Christmas has passed; the essence supply is substantial; and Soldiers of God who would be leery of helping an Ethereal god will rarely complain if Santa turns up in an emergency and gives them 'gifts' which will help them survive the War with Hell. of course, he needs presents. This isn't terribly difficult; granted that children can be as greedy as any adult, a single robbery of a toy store can provide Odin with sufficient gifts for scores of children. this is a common task for his Soldiers during November and December; the toys once stolen are smuggled into different countries for distribution to his followers. human nature being what it is, most of his Soldiers have rationalised this as 'take from the rich, give to the poor' (even if they've just bankrupted a small family business) and consider themselves the rightful successors to the Viking raiders. Adults need more substantial presents, so if Odin is 'wooing' Soldiers of God, they may get a mortgage paid off or be given a minor artifact (generally taken from the forces of Hell, and invariably one which Odin has decided is too dangerous to be used by his own troops - nobody said Odin was nice). Such things are fairly easy to get hold of. Of course, if some Soldiers of God have a child die during December, they'll be less than impressed to find out a decade later that their child is now an Einheriar loyally worshipping Odin... Rites for the North Pole Tether: Worship Rite: Write a letter to Santa (this Rite is similar to the Celestial Song of Tongues - up to 15 words, generally being the child's name, address and what they want will be attached to the essence when received by Odin). Normal Rite: Have stolen and/or distributed Christmas presents to 40 children who've sent essence to Odin; gains 1 essence, if more than 40, gain an additional essence every day until have gained 1 essence per 40 or fraction thereof. Odin now has some fairly large organisations delivering presents - the essence is divvied up equally amongst those involved in the operation. =========================================================================== Odin doesn't have that many warriors on earth; they don't often die valiantly in battle; and even when they do it's uncommon for the Aurora Borealis to be in the sky. But when they do... The Valkyria are very proud of their Tether, and guard it fanatically. The lower locus of the Tether allows them to function as ghosts while it is open, and they all have Vessels in case they need to fight the enemies of the warrior they are collecting (which they will often do anyway just for the fun of it). They will collect warriors of either gender; women who are collected by the Valkyria will be drafted into the unit - which beats being a serving wench in Odin's feast hall! Although not terribly powerful, the Tether has one important ability - it can drag a body back with it. The effect is identical to what will happen if a Celestial uses the Song of Transfiguration in an Ethereal Tether, with an unknown duration. Rumours that Odin sells the bodies to Saminga for zombi fodder are clearly false - why would he do that when Isis is so much more reliable and has similar views on infiltrating Christianity? Worship Rite: Praise the heroism of a fallen comrade directly after their death. Normal Rites: Praise the heroism of a fallen opponent directly after their death; prevent a warriors corpse from being despoiled. ======================================================================== James. ------------------------------ End of in_nomine-digest V1 #2336 ********************************
