Pyria "The Demons of Hell have failed in our mission to destroy the unrighteous and torment the wicked for too long! We must burn like cleansing storm across the planet! Let the Reign of the False Prophets in Heaven be at an end and the gates of Higher Heavens cast open! To arms my loves! To arms!" Demon Princess of Fire The Fall of Belial to the Hands of Gabriel caused a terrible uproar in all of Hell as the Demon Prince of Fire's minions had been a staple resource to keep Baal from subjugating all of Hell's warriors under his strict military regime. The Demons of Fire also were for the most part dissonant, subordinate, and throughly useless as far as the rest of the Princes believed. This kind of chaos usually occurs with the death of a Prince but few had achieved such a mainstay of prominence from the Fall until present day as Belial and his death left an entire principality to be taken. It was then that a vision of Heaven appeared in the place with the greatest despair of all. Pyria came as a vision on a fiery steed that was forged from the physical forces of the slain Prince Belial's revenant presented by Malphas, armor that was created by Belial's master forger given by Kronos, and a blade that supposadly was wielded by the Prince of Fire in the very fall itself from Kobal. Pyria claimed to be a messanger from God and in Hell such a thing would be laughed at even by her fellow Habbalah but something about her convinced even Calabim that she was telling the truth and really had recieved word from the Almighty. The young warrior woman slaughtered every Duke of Belial but for three which recognized her holiness and added their armies to her own even as she proclaimed the message of the One True God throughout Hell and drew the Damned from Sheol who had emerged stronger and more dangerous from their experience. Arming them they suceeded in defeating the armies of Baal which had come to annex the territory and even forces from Asmodeus and Vapula. Knowledge of where she came from is minimal even today but it appeared she was barely out of her status as a newborn helling when she accomplished this amazing feet. When Lucifer came to congradulate her for holding such territory the most amazing part was her response... She slapped him. "How dare you speak such empty words of Praise Lightbringer! You who have been placed in command of the holiest of missions! The Most painful of all tasks have allowed your charges to war upon themselves and plot for empty power! I am ashamed of my actions but recognize their necessity if Hell is to ever become the abbatoir of the guilty it is meant to be!" Lucifer amused bowed his head in reticence and said that he had obviously made a mistake and proclaimed her the new Princess of Fire before suggesting she take up such matters with Baal since he is the one whom he placed in charge of the war on Heaven. Pyria has since done her best to advance the cause of evil and fanaticism amongst her followers and their followers as well with frightening ease. Rumors tha all in Sheol are inducted into an ectastic vision of their role in the Grand Scheme of God for Hell is rampant as is more lurrid tales of the Passionate Warrior Princess of Hell's leadership but that may be because she inspires worship most demons can't understand. Heaven's reaction to Pyria has been noticibly hostile given that they expected Belial's death to cause much more chaos and confusion before Hell completely recovered and Gabriel's madness while has not returned has given way to much more terrible agony. While Belial corrupted destruction horroficially Pyria fully believes in the power of the Metaphorical aspects of fire and preaches a doctrine of falsefied ectastic religeon, passion, and punishment which is like looking into a twisted Funhouse mirror for Gabriel. No one in Heaven is quite sure what she's going to do next to the young Princess if anything as her only words on the matter is "I have moved from the volcano to the Ocean." Dissonance It is dissonant for any servitor of Pyria to not torment a mortal for a number of days equal to his forces with the power of fire. Be this prophecy, burning them alive, or passionate torture (S&M to intimate with honest hatred) Demons can remove a point of dissonance by torturing themselves equally for an day per point usually by dumping themselevs in the Sheol. Altered Band Attunements Balseraphs Balseraphs can bestow upon mortals "visions" of frightening reality with their resonance as long as they are in the presence of fire. Highly metaphorical hallucinations they will hold terrible portent and meanin using very personal imagery for the person in question to believe in the righteousness of a Hellish cause. Additional Servitor Attunements Passion's caress The demon can amplify a human's burning passion for a thing or theory to frightening levels whether it be pain, suffering, or object. This he must obsess over for half an hour each day and lasts for a number of days to the demon's ethereal forces. (almost identical to Gabriel's friend of the Spark) The Devotionals The demon is able to tolerate all forms of pain due to the sensation that he is burning constantly that immunizes himself to anything else but the joyous feeling that fills him. While he feels pain still it only comes to a dull ache to the pain within Relations: Pyria has effectively declared war on Baal for the soul of the cause of Evil and ironically it is Hell's least loyal and devoted princes which find her their firmest allies. While it's likely Baal could crush her in short order he has better things to do at this point and dislikes the possibility of being considered afraid of someone barely out of Gremlinhood. Asmodeus considers the woman's antics about God and holiness to be more dangerous than a Habbalah should have any right to preach and worse might lead to unwanted redemptions though by no means has he spotted any. He also takes personal offense at her "divine mission" saying that he is ineffectual spreading the cause of evil. Kobal considers this his best joke since Haagenti with a hint of Pope Joan on the side...which admittadly is a bit repetive and annoying..is still enough to take note of. Allied: Malphas, Kobal, Kronos (Malphas and Kobal are Allied) Associated: Haagenti, Saminga, Beleth (Saminga and Beleth are associated) Hostile: Asmodeus, Andrephalus, Nybbas (Asmodeus is Hostile) Enemy: Baal (Baal is an enemy) Changed Basic Rites: * Kill a human with fire whom the Demon finds personally sinful * Seduce a mortal to the Cause of Fire with passion, prophecy, or Pain Changed Invocation Modifiers +1 Judgemental Religeous Text +3 A burning brothel (strip joints and modelling companies will do), pornography den (any place which sells playboy will do), or den of vice (bars, gunshops, cigarette stores, coffee houses etc) +6 A burning witch (or other scapegoat) - -Charlie _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 00:36:32 -0400 From: "Charles Phipps" Subject: IN> The Infinite Book of Law (thanks for the inspiration heresay) "Mmmmmmm. Here we go." Dominic looks over his book then passed judgement. It had been a difficult case but he was glad to have resolved it. "How do you know what I did was wrong?" the young angel shouted. "Who are you to judge?" "I am the Archangel of Judgement and my masterpiece was accepted by God as the justification for my word! That is why I am to judge." The Infinite Book of Law The Infinite Book of Law is an artifact that was created over aproximatly one hundred million years of painstaking research by a young Cherub of Raphael named Asmodeus and a Seraph of Destiny named Dominic. The IBL as it is called by Dominicans without a super devotion to reverence (and everyone else whose heard of it since that number is so small) is an artifact that came to be because angels were having a great deal of difficulty setting a single standard to be judged by when they made a mistake or questioned a superior. While the Metatron certainly could arbitrate God's laws it was a tiresome and taxing process that was slowing down a world being created. The two friends then decided to do something about it and requested permission from their Superiors (Raphael and Yves respectively) to compile the law of God so that they could have a distinct measure to rule every situation by. Raphael and Yves knew of course what they were getting their servants into but decided that it was best to let them engage in their little excercise as their servants did their best to arbitrate disputes as best they could. The situation for young Dominic and Asmodeus as you may have guessed was not so simple as they first assumed. The Infinite Book of Law was created by recording every one of the Metatron (and by Proxy God's) words down into it as Asmodeus and Dominic endlessly debated the concepts of sin, redemption, and just cause. The Seven Deadly Sins were codefied in the Book of Law even if it took Dominic alone to write down in the book the Seven Virtues (Asmodeus could agree on the sins but the virtues stank of reversal to him). Countless meetings with Yves, Michael, Uriel, Gabriel, Raphael, and the Metatron ensued with they and other Archangels occasionally bothered by the young angels questions on their actions. Dominic however was determined to finish the work and about sixty million years into it when Asmodeus gave up and despaired of ever completing the work Dominic perservered and presented his Book of Law to the Archangel of the Word. When Asmodeus heard the book was done he asked if he might join Dominic in presenting it and Dominic acknowledging his friend's help said yes. "Do you believe this book should be adopted as the rule of law in Heaven?" "Yes Voice of God I do." "Why?" "Because I believe it provides a system of judgement for all beings who claim and do serve God by which they can set a standard for themselevs to be your perfect servant." "Do you believe you are a perfect servant Dominic?" "No My Lord." "Then how could you write a Book that would tell you how to be so?" "I listened to the Symphony not myself My Lord." "I see." "Truly Lord the actions do not matter for they are something which a man cannot be judged by but the damage to the Soul that these actions are manifestations of. It is the work of a healer not a warrior that I record these rules of and hope that they may lead angels to perfection by giving standard to work by in the simple langauge of our people which cannot lie." "Very well Lord Dominic I present to you the word of Judgement for I have read your work most good and pure and while it is unmistakable in it's completeness it requires a man to choose to follow it." Asmodeus looked up. "And I sir." "For you Asmodeus, nothing." The Infinite Book of Law by that action has become a growing living artifact for it's place of reverence in the land of Judgement with the book possesing a very simple and magical power.... If you have a question in mind regarding good and evil you will open to a chapter which will explain the best course of action. The word infinite is actually something of a misnomer as the Book is a mere 900 pages in length due to Dominic's concision in writing it and many servants of Judgement keep a copy around them for quotability if they do not outright memorize every single verse and chapter however it is said that the book "Is infinite in it's application because it teachings only reveal more on the way to perfection and perfection is ever growing." - -Charlemagne _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 16:59:37 +1100 From: "james walker" Subject: IN> DreamNet There are a lot of mundanes in Heaven's service, and most of them have the Lucid Dreaming skill. Over the years they've crafted their Dreamscapes into places of beauty, wonder - and often extreme usefulness. A Dreamer may copy a location he knows well to allow angels to practice missions in it, or create a library where others can study. Special about DreamNet is that it is not one, but instead thousands of Dreamscapes working together. Rather than being bubbles, the Dreamscapes appear as complicated tangles of wire, forming viewscreens where they connect to other Dreamscapes. Mercurians of Dreams are particularly fond of DreamNet, as they can move from 'scape' to 'scape until they find one dedicated to the subject they're interested in. Other users move more slowly, but all agree that it's much faster than the Internet. You don't actually need to enter the Dreamscapes to use DreamNet; each Dreamscape writes relevant information onto the side of the scape, allowing a researcher to painstakingly follow information trails. This part of the DreamNet is incredibly well maintained, as it is the only section which can be used by Mundanes ie the people who maintain DreamNet. However accessing the real power of DreamNet requires entering the Dreamscapes. Most run on an accelerated time rate, allowing a visitor to conduct hours of research during the handful of minutes granted by their Song/Attunement. Galleries of artwork are common, as are collections of favourite sunsets etc. Angels tend to be more interested in the libraries, which cover every subject known to mortals. Buildings are duplicated; battles re-enacted. (Although rarer than on the mundane web, porn 'scapes do exist, to the shock of many angels, and many more Soldiers of God). Even the angels and Saints who watch over DreamNet have only a limited idea of how much is available. Fortunately for those overwhelmed, getting advice is easy. The Dreamers who created the Net are in their Dreamscapes and make excellent guides/librarians/sages. There are some problems with DreamNet that a new user should consider: Firstly, only one third of the DreamNet is active at any one time; a wise researcher will perform 4 searches 6 hour apart if they wish to by thorough. Secondly, DreamNet cannot, by definition, focus on anything which would draw the Dreamer into Beleth's March; doing so would disconnect the dreamer. Thirdly, accuracy is better than the mundane web, but not great. Seraphim are invaluable here. Fourthly, DreamNet etiquette requires visitors to take the time to admire any artworks the Dreamer has created. Doing so takes no real time (due to the accelerated time of the 'scapes) so failure to do so is considered highly insulting and will result in the visitor being sent to Coventry by the entire DreamNet. Fifthly, areas of each Dreamscape are veiled. Behind the veil are the private hopes and dreams of the dreamer. Entry into these areas without a very good reason will result in a posse of angels of Dream chasing the trespasser done and 'explaining' the courtesies of the Marches - probably with a baseball bat. Even Dominicans only go in after getting formal permission from Blandine. Finally, DreamNet is not to be mentioned in the Corporeal world unless absolutely necessary. Hell has heard of DreamNet, but assumes that it is part of JeanNet; this belief is to be encouraged. An ongoing problem with the DreamNet has been dreamers refusing to leave after dying. This problem has been circumvented by making dreamers 'honorary Saints'. The Dreamshade is still expected to travel to heaven, but may may return via Blandine's Tower to re-establish their 'scape after a cooling off period in Heaven. Returning dreamers create even more beautiful dreamscapes, inspired by their time in Heaven, so it's hoped that this will solve the problem. These Saints are also responsible for policing the DreamNet. As DreamNet expands, some Dreamscapes are being buried within it, with no direct contact to the Vale. Visitors are often surprised by the peace within these dreamscapes, as disturbance does not penetrate this far. A handful of these 'scapes seem to be potential Tethers - generally to Creation, Destiny, Dream or Fire. Angels have been asked not to spend essence while within the DreamNet for fear of disrupting the Tethers. The first rule of DreamNet is you do not talk about DreamNet. The second rule of DreamNet is you do not talk about DreamNet. The third rule: When someone says stop or starts edging toward Beleth's side of the Marches, even if he's just faking it, the dream is over. The fourth rule: Only one human to a dreamscape. The fifth rule: One dream at a time, fellas. The sixth rule: No shirts, no shoes. The seventh rule: Dreams will go on for as long as they have to. And the eighth and final rule: If this is your first night at DreamNet, you have to dream. James. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Aug 2001 00:17:19 +1100 From: "james walker" Subject: IN> Bechley Prison This demanded to be written. It'd probably make a good campaign setting or the site for a solo adventure for a character you attracted the attentions of the law. ====================================================================== Humans aren't terribly skilled at dealing with supernatural crimes, but enough have happened over the years for them to take some precautions. Anytime a crime involves something supernatural, whether it be the criminal sacrifices cats before robbing a store, or witnesses insisting that the criminal could fly, or even the police doctor insisting that the accused is, in fact, dead (and that his ability to to walk and talk is beside the point) then once arrested the accused is sent to Bechley. If convicted, they'll serve their sentence there. Most of the residents of Bechley are mundanes who've been the hosts of Shedim. Others are lunatics who think that they're magicians - or demons - or even Jesus Christ. However, about a third are either Symphonically Aware humans, or Remnants. There are also a handful of Celestials. They don't stand out; their willingness to pretend to be mundane makes them a lot easier for the guards to deal with. Security at Bechley is very tight; The gaurds are incredibly strong Willed, and normally have the Blessed advantage - weak-Willed Guards don't last long. They're also very difficult to bribe; those who can be bribed tend to have 'accidents', and they've learned that showing any favouritism results in the hostility of prisoners belonging to other factions. They do appreciate prisoners who keep their nose clean, however, and will occasionally go out of their way for a model prisoner. Despite the efforts of the guards, different factions of prisoners have carved out territories where other prisoners rarely tread. These include: The "Sleeper's Wing" - one entire level of one block is incredibly docile as the prisoners spend as much time as possible asleep. A deal has been struck between the Dream Soldiers of Blandine & Beleth to treat the prison as neutral territory and resolve their differences in the Marches. Most of them have come to terms with being in prison; all it means is that they can concentrate on their real job, after all. There are also a couple of Pagan Soldiers. As neutral ground, it's a place where they can fraternise with the enemy, and it's possibly the best place in the world to learn Lucid Dreaming. The Prison Psychiatrist spends a lot of time here, learning the skill. As he's accepted the idea of Jung's collective unconsciousness, he's not terribly surprised that conversations held in his dreams will be referred to when awake. Some of the prisoners in this wing were framed, or even framed themselves; Dream Soldiers don't normally need to break the law. The "Nutter's Wing" - the average Will of the prisoners held here is lower than one. Riddled with Anger, Berserk or Murderous, the prisoners are all psycho. They spend most of there time locked up, and when let out there will always be more guards present than prisoners. No actual Celestials are kept here; just Remnants and the dregs of humanity. The "Reading Wing" - Sorcerers and Soldiers make up the bulk of the prisoners here. They are a mix of amoral opportunists and idealists who found that the law doesn't consider "an angel told me to" justification for murder, robbery or vandalism. Most have taken full advantage of the educational facilities of the prison. Not just the official ones, either - Helltongue is the language of choice here. They've taken the time to teach the Chaplain the basics of angelography, and would teach him more about demons but he insists that encouraging the prisoners to talk about demons would be wrong. given the number of inmates who know how to summon them, or think they do, he's probably right. Although relatively peaceful, the large number of Satanists, Anti-Christs and assorted lunatics who try to gravitate here provides the Sorcerers with a large contingent of assistants, allowing them to perform rituals on a scale unheard of in the outside world. The Soldiers of God in the Reading Wing tend to be a unhappy lot; they dedicated their lives to making the world a better place and have got a prison sentence for their troubles. All but the most dedicated have learned at least a little Sorcery; those lacking the Will to become Sorcerers generally only learn the theory (although some learn Focus for ethereal combat). The price for learning is merely to assist in a ritual or three, or pay some essence; maybe teach a Song or reveal the names of some demons. Celestial Inmates: Garnet (Lilim of Lust) - you know a Lilim is really down on her luck if she's stuck in prison. Still Garnet has a nice racket going. Arrested for a crime committed in a male vessel, Garnet is the only contact for a 'nympho who smuggles herself in with the laundry' - Garnet's female Vessel. Any man whose been in the prison for more than few years probably owes Garnet multiple Geas/6's. (There are female prisoners, but they are kept in a separate cell block). Edwin "Bruises" Franklin - a Calabite of The Media who made the mistake of beating the fan of a rival team to death on camera, he's on death row. Nybbas thinks the ratings for his execution will be excellent, as he's still famous as a football coach. Although his ability to mangle an opponent is impressive, other prisoners have learnt to fear his ability to tamper with security camera using he Balseraph of The Media attunement. He can be persuaded to use this ability for others - for a suitable fee. Alf "Brick" Tanner - A Cherub of Stone who was convicted of murder for his part in a gang war. rather than use his abilites to shoot through, he is obeying David's orders to 'tough it out' and to set an example for the other prisoners. He repeatedly asked to transfer to the Nutter's Wing to help keep things under control; as yet the Warden has refused. All in all, most excellent. I think it will make an entertaining addition to the game I'm GM'ing for Mundanes who are finding out about a new layer to their world, and I'll try to remember to tell you how it went if/when we run an adventure there. Personally I see Eli as more of a MacGuyver fan myself (a Creationer in service to Lightning if there ever was one ;)). - -- Mike Bruner-- bruner@delaware.infi.net I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 22:21:13 -0500 From: David Edelstein Subject: IN> "Sweet November" Time for another "movie-as-In-Nomine-plot." We rented "Sweet November" tonight. (Yes, it's a chick flick. My wife made me watch it with her.) Basically an unexceptional romance/tearjerker with Keaneu Reeves and Charlize Theron, but Theron's character, particularly the way she picked out men "with problems" and devoted herself to them for a month to change their lives, screamed "Mercurian of Destiny." Or possibly an unusually gentle and patient Mercurian of Fire, but Destiny is a more obvious match. Obviously this would not make for a very exciting IN adventure, but I could easily see such an angel working like that and being a local NPC in any campaign city. - -David ------------------------------ End of in_nomine-digest V1 #2343 ********************************
