It doesnt give the rest of us folks a real chance as we have not had anything put on to that page. If i was to send in to this list all the stuff im churning out to the In Veritas list then i'd have a message or three a day on here, i know i and Fallen Seraph have posted one or two bits on here recently, but all of this stuff has been sent to the other lists first, and when we have sent it in, its been well received, but we still are not the big boys and girls of the IN list. The Lord of the Ring No in heaven wants people to know that the chief lieutenant of the Devil was once actually a real figure living in the world but Litheroy insisted JRR Tolkien find the plates which told about an age of Might Heaven and Hell would prefer modern man have forgotten about. You all probably know the story but long ago the greatest of Morgoth's lieutenants Sauron sought to increase his power a great deal by installing the majority of his forces in a ring which amplified their ability numerous times over and allowed his resonance to be applied in multiple places at once. It was really an ingenious little artifact and one that quickly made it possible that 13,000-8000 B.C. or so was probably going to end up entirely under the dominion of a Djinn. Of course no Superior is ever going to do that sort of thing again because a few piddling little short people ended up reducing Sauron to a remanent with no corporeal forces and a will that was just barely enough for sentient conciousness. The Demon Princes of Hell decided that Sauron's defeat was so humiliating that in fact they pleaded before Heaven to make the War a subtle one from now on. No more corrupting Tree Spirits into Trolls No more transforming Elves into hideous mockerous orcs No more Demons intending to openly rule the world as Dark Lord (Baal hated this one) Demons would even insist on purely human vessels so that the Balrog and other monstrocities would ever be a thing of memory and later legend. Sauron being undone and less than a memory in most beings in Heaven's eye was more or less forgotten until Litheroy's book through his soldier saw print. No Demon Prince would restore their greatest rival's forces and Heaven had accepted Sauron back as an angel once before to know that the yoyo could not be trusted. Still one Demon Prince was stupid enough to find entire concept incredibly cool....especially since while inventing the television set he loved sitting back with (GASP) his copy and while he wished it had alot more scantily glad elf women and graphic violence he knew that was just a matter of time til the Movie Version came out. Discovering Sauron's reality Nybbas managed to track down the remanent hiding in the rocky ices of Antartica lamenting his defeat from long ago. "BABY I'M HERE TO MAKE YOU AN OFFER YOU CAN'T REFUSE." And Sauron didn't, accepting the restoration of his physical forces and enough will that he might begin working for "Nybba's" media campaign. In truth Sauron has no desire to reveal his continued existence to Heaven and Hell which very rightly might want to prevent his rise anew. In truth he has sought out the Brat Prince Fufur and offered himself as a councillor as he shares the secret of turning men into monsters through awesomely painful experimentation (Fufur finds this Hardcore) and has appealed to his old friend Saminga for one last round. While it may seem ridiculous to him, Sauron has to make use of the tools Nybbas gave him and if that means Nine Guys on Horseback riding around kidnapping angels for Sauron (at least until Nybbas loses enough interest Sauron can get them some decent clothes) he'll make due. He really has learned his lessons about rings but it's what he knows and on the eve of Nybbas's movie Sauron will prepare a soul-sacrafice of 100 captive angels that will transfer of their forces through the ring unto him. and restore him to the Status of Dark Lord of the Eye (A word of immeasurable power) Laurence unfortunately is not taking this threat as seriously as Uriel or Michael would however and has decided to send some of his lower servitors to deal with it along with a Seraph of Yves who dealt with it last time and a very small furry footed saint..... Yes Peter Jackson, your opening will be a blast. - -Charlemagne _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Oct 2001 08:20:07 +0000 From: "Jo Hart" Subject: Re: IN> Iron Rev 4, does anyone care? I think David is probably right about the regularity. It's a fun thing, as an occasional break for the list, but not everyone has the time and energy to take part every month. Fun things about Iron Rev: 1. Get more scenarios on the list. Hopefully some of which could be used by new IN GMs without too much tweaking. (That was the original reason for keeping them short and only using the main book as source.) 2. Encourages everyone to join in, not just list regulars. Everyone is starting from the same point! (I think Cassandra is right about list awards, although there's no reason why people can't have some ;) If I was going to organise this, I'd gather a focus-group (definitely including Casca as the group packrat, cos he remembers them all and probably stores them all too!) together to get a shortlist of potential "best posts" which we could put up on a website, and anyone else would be welcome to nominate any other post they'd particularly liked -- and then put up a page on which people could vote on best post in a very few categories. Probably just best fiction, best first post, best flame, best light/humorous IN post, and best dark/serious IN post. Might try to keep it to only one post per author because this isn't an award for quantity.) I think #2 is really important. I *like* seeing lots of new people coming up with fun stuff. Some of the fiction series in which everyone was explicitly invited to contribute and the monthly themes have been pretty cool about including non-regulars (I liked Michael's trials.) Again, it's nice to space them out a bit, especially since not every topic is going to grab everyone (this was an issue with Iron Rev 4; using song lyrics for songs people don't know makes it less inspiring than random items or references that people do know.) jo >From: "Charles Phipps" >Reply-To: in_nomine-l@lists.io.com >To: in_nomine-l@lists.io.com >Subject: IN> Iron Rev 4, does anyone care? >Date: Tue, 02 Oct 2001 03:13:23 -0400 > >I never actually paid attention to what Iron Revised was. > >Truth be told I think we should have a set of In Nomine collection awards >on >list. > >Something to give your idea on what you like best. > >Best Series by a single author and all that > >-Charlemagne > >_________________________________________________________________ >Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp > _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Oct 2001 12:10:55 +0300 (EEST) From: Mervi Hamalainen Subject: IN> Re: in_nomine-digest V1 #2394 > From: "james walker" > Subject: IN> Re: Demonic Needs > > think what a demon Needs? He haunts the marches and sleep realms, killing things that are not right, he hunts angels and demons alike, he hunts ethereals as well, but only those who are not of the celt and teutonic basis. He has his work cut out for him, but he can kill malakim, and is very very well skilled in the use of spears, bows and swords. He fights dirty, killing the dreamers to kill the things he is hunting. After a hunt he rests for a while and heals up, he changes hosts quite often, and leaves his hosts to sort out any corporeal troubles that he has caused. His hosts think that it was all their idea, they dont realise that they have been possesed, they think that they are tregard, going about his sworn quest, killing people who are the decendants of those whom he served in the days of old. =============================================== Toodles Cas *where you come from is gone, where you're going was never there, and where you are aint no good unless you can get away from it* http://groups.yahoo.com/group/inmundi http://groups.yahoo.com/group/semperin http://groups.yahoo.com/group/inveritas http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Infabula _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Oct 2001 20:18:30 +1100 From: "james walker" Subject: IN> Re: Angel of Silence > I like his history, especially his actions during the > trial. Nice in theory, but the Grigori were created in response to Hell; as the Watchers they were Heaven's alarm system - Hell had a vested interest in finding out about them. They'd have been a rude shock, but the Demon Princes would have learnt quickly - and they had 5,400 years in which to do so. Also, given that their Outcasting was caused by lust, Andre probably knows a great deal about them. Out of curiosity, am I the only one who thinks that their 'punishment' is a bit of a joke? "The World is mine for the Taking... and I plan on foreclosing, soon..." Greed, as Rezzack envisions it, is not about simply Hoarding money and items of luxury, without ever handing anything over to anyone. In fact, as far as giving is involved, Rezzack is more then willing to Loan you exactly what you want, when you want it. It's with the Interests that Rezzack charges for the Loans that he promotes the word of Greed. The Royal Bank of Hell, under his new management, is now famous for it's generous Loan packages... The fact that people taking out Loans from the Bank tend to end up in severe debt, as Interests and added costs pile up again and again, tends to get brushed under the rug, however. Rezzack, since acquiring his Word and Princedom after betraying his former Master Mammon, has wasted no time in rebuilding the National Bank of Hell, with crisp, clean new offices which would make one believe to be on Earth again, where it not for the drab colors, the constant lack of good air conditionning, the de-humanizing Management... Actually, it DOES make one believe to be on Earth, after a fashion. Rezzack believes in a very active policy when it comes to the Corporeal Realm, and is training most of his available Servitors for Corporeal activities, collecting souls in contracts and corrupting businesses and corporations, turning them into fronts for more Greed operations. When interrogated about why he wants to go to Earth so bad, he merely answers "'Cause that's where the Money is." Dissonnance: It is dissonant for a Demon of Greed to give anything to anyone without collecting something of at least equal value in return. On the other hand, Servitors of Greed are under no obligation to repay freely given offerings in kind... Band Attunements: Balseraphs Snakes of Greed, after the example taught by their New Prince, have learned to use their Ethereal Forces to boost their Resonnance Rolls when trying to make a bargain with a willing subject. Djinn These Greedy Stalkers can bind themselves to twice as many Patterns as normal, as long as those Patterns are those of material objects with some value. They serve Rezzack as Security Guards and Repo Demons. Calabim Rezzack's personal "Collection Agents", Calabim of Greed always start with the Greedy discord. They can determine, at a glance, what a target's most valuable possessions are, and how to ruin him financially. Habbalah Habbalah of Greed can use their Resonnance to induce Greed in victims, making them Covetous and Avaricious. They tend to use this ability in subtle ways, fooling Humans into making wrong decisions out of a lust for gain. Lilim These Greedy little Temptresses automatically gain a Corporeal Force bonus when collecting their Geasa, though they can forgo that Bonus in an attempt to "surcharge" their victims, boosting the Geas by one Level if they make a successful Will roll (or Two levels on a 6). Shedim Shedim of Greed get a Celestial Force bonus when using Greed, Covetousness or Avarice to lead a Host to corruption. They hover around Loan Banks, Realtors, Pawn Shops and especially Casinos. Impudites Impudites of Greed truly earn the name of Takers, as they gain a Corporeal Force bonus to their Charm Resonnance, when using it to collect money from Humans. Servitor Attunements: Infernal Contract The Demon may write a contract (on paper) between himself and any single other individual (known as the Client), exchanging any one item requested by the Client for a payment determined by the Demon, such as a period of Service, another Item, a First born child, or one's Immortal Soul. Any attempt (by either Demon or Client) at violating the Terms of the contract will result in the Violator taking the amount of Essence bound into the Contract, multiplied by 6, in hits of Celestial Damage. Infernal Revenue Service A Demon with this Attunement can use an Ethereal Force check to look at any single person and determine the state of their finances; how much money they have on their person and their bank account, and how much money they can scrounge up through selling their personal items, car, house, organs, etc. Distinctions Rezzack has slowly replaced most of his former Prince's old Dukes with carefully selected new Demons, who bear the title of "Vice-President", or VPs for short. These VPs are all Word-Bound, and are refered to by both their Title and Word. For Exemple, the Demon of Gambling is referred to as the Vice-President of Gambling. Knight of Wallets This Demon can detect every form of currency (from Cash to credit cards to checks to barter) within a 40 foot radius, to their exact value in the money of his choice (usually Dollars) Captain of Collections Demons with this Distinction are constantly aware of the status of their finances and investments, both in physical wealth and in Essence use. Should he suddenly start losing money (such as having it stolen or a blackmail victim breaking free), he will know about it immediatly. Barons of Foreclosure The Demon has the skill of Fast-Talk at level 6, or adds 6 to the skill if he already possesses it, whenever the skill is used in a discussion in Financial Matters. Relations: Rezzack, being relatively new and without major competition, is taking the time to properly "network" with the Nobility of Hell, making advantageous alliances, while trying to avoid potential enemies. Nonetheless, Belial, and Malphas have already earned the new Prince's ire, as Rezzack considers Belial's pyromania as being unprofitable, and Malphas' support of competition harms his efforts at building Trusts and Monopolies. Lillith, on the other hand, is an open supporter of the new Prince of Greed, who treats her Daughters much better then Mammon did. Baal is also friendlier to Rezzack, who shares his desire to conquer the Earth, albeit in an Economic, not military manner. The fact that Rezzack willingly channels funds into Baal's earthly operations doesn't hurt, either. Allied: Haagenti, Lillith, Nybbas Associated: Andrealphus, Baal, Valefor Hostile: Belial, Malphas Enemy: No one Rites: - -Spend one hour making a profit at the expense of others. - -Acquire an object worth over $10 000 for less expense/effort then it's worth. - -Financially ruin a Servitor of Marc (2 points) Chance of Invocation: 4 Invocation Modifiers: +1: $10 borrowed from someone else. +2: $100 in Illegally obtained money +3: Illegal Goods, smuggled from another country +4: Making $10 000 in profit in any way. +5: Making $100 000 in profit in any way. +6: A contract for a Human's Soul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2001 10:36:09 -0400 From: Whistling in the Dark Subject: Re: IN> Iron Rev 4, does anyone care? My displeasure stems from the fact that hardly anyone voted, and >voting takes far less effort than writing the entries. I can only speak for myself, as one of the folks who didn't vote. Why didn't I vote? Two reasons, really. One, my concentration was in 20th Century American Poetry (and yes, Eliot counts as American. And British. He's like that), so my vote was foregone but not really based on the merits of the piece. Two, I was highly interested in the seeds, which were mostly excellent, but not at all interested in who "won" for them. Iron Rev 4 was worthy because of what was created, not who got the most votes. Cassandra's comments are also somewhat germane, even if one must paraphrase them a bit to get there. The 'regulars' develop fan bases who are going to be predisposed to them anyhow, and Moe's is (one hopes) the largest at this point. That sort of thing can skew the results. (But then, I've grown intensely suspicious of fan based votes since _Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire_ won the Hugo but didn't even get nominated for the World Fantasy Award. Which, if you think about it, means a horrible crime was perpetuated. On which side and with which award is really a matter of perspective.) - -- Eric Alfred Burns - Impudite of Secrets -- or Mercurian of Revelation (candidate for the Word of Obscurity) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2001 12:59:48 -0400 From: "Adams, David" Subject: IN> Who checked out the IN cookbook Does anybody have any idea what happened to the IN cookbook? You have influenced my game so much (especially with your Fufur, Sandman and Ozma/Uriel write ups) I sometimes wonder if I should call it Charlemagne's In Nomie game (plug-in actually, the main setting is Jovian Chronicles). Another reason to love this list with so many of you who contribute and give another POV of the In Nomie universe. Thanks to all of you (*rounds of applause to all the contributors*)! Never let it be said that the writers got everything right. That's sure 'nuff the kind of mistake that beings with superhuman intelligence and millennia of experience would never make. Of course, that doesn't preclude the possibility that Heaven had plans for the Grigori that required that none of them be in Heaven... ===== Michael Walton, #9805-068 "The surest way to keep a secret is to make people believe they already know the answer." - -- Fremen saying __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
