Game-Master's Guide. Veddy useful. Explanations about Words, religions as seen through the In Nomine lens, suggestions for structuring a game, a timeline, and a bunch of alternate rules you might want to use. Corporeal Player's Guide - if you want Soldier PCs or important NPCs, or even just important human NPCs in general. Angelic Player's Guide... I actually suggest you try to get it used if you can; it happened before my watch and there's stuff in there which is going to DIE as soon as the APG sells out and can be made into a second edition. It's all so interwoven with cool, useful stuff, though, that it's impossible to errata it until the 2nd edition is made... Infernal Player's Guide - I had a lot more to do with it, and it's a lot better. The art is better, too. The Superior books - useful for Servitors of given Superiors, at the least. You can use the Opposite Side ones, as a GM, to make NPCs more fleshed out. They also include adventure seeds tailored for the detailed Superiors. So far, there are only 4 of those. Superiors 1: David, Dominic, Michael, Laurence Superiors 2: Andrealphus, Haagenti, Kobal, Nybbas Superiors 3: Blandine, Gabriel, Khalid, Yves Superiors 4: Alaemon, Fleurity, Mammon, Valefor, Vapula You Are Here - also known as the big book of plot hooks, as well as scenery. Liber Castellorum - the Tether-book, useful mostly for GMs who want to know more about Tethers. Also the first book I edited, and it went very well, and it is a Keen Book. O:> Liber Servitorum - the big book of NPCs (many of whom are point-balanced to be pre-gen PCs, and those are marked for easy use). If you're having a problem getting a handle on how to make a Servitor of X unique, this is a very good book. It also includes a short section on Roles, a longer one on Servants, and a brief listing of sample fates, destinies, dis/honorable deeds, and Needs. (For inspiration or use when the players resonate someone.) Liber Canticorum - the book of Songs. A whole book full of Songs, including the ones in the main book (some with minor revisions/clarifications) so you don't have to switch between books to equip a character with Songs. Includes more detailed rules for learning Songs, and some other cool stuff. Liber Reliquarum - the book of Relics. All the ones from the main book, plus much, MUCH more. Rules for making relics, both detailed and quickanddirty. Then there's the Revelations Cycle. Night Music - Includes the original 10-page expanded writeups for Laurence (who was expanded to ~30 pages in S1) and Saminga, as well as 2-3 page writeups of Fleurity (who was expanded to ~12 pages in S4) and Christopher; drug rules (revised in the Corporeal Player's Guide), rules for Saints and Hellsworn (revised in the Corporeal Player's Guide); In Nomine Austin (a city-writeup which includes a lot of NPCs); and the adventure, The Demon Prince of Rock&Roll (introducing Furfur). It also has some fiction in the front. The Marches - Includes 10-page expanded writeups for Blandine (who got expanded to ~30 pages in S3), Beleth, Gabriel (also ~30 pages in S3), and Belial; the minor Choir of Menumin (revised in S3); the minor Band of Pachadim; sorcerers (revised in the Corporeal Player's Guide); a lot of data on the Marches' landscape and history and "major" pantheons; and a setting with adventure seeds. Heaven & Hell - 10-page expansions of Dominic (boosted to ~30 in S1), Asmodeus, Yves (boosted to ~30 in S3), and Kronos; 2-3 page writeups of Zadkiel, and Mammon (who is ~12 pages in S4); Limbo; Heaven & Hell quick traveler's guides; errata'd description of the Light of Heaven (see the errata pages, off of www.sjgames.com/in-nomine); and an adventure. Fall of the Malakim - 10 page expansions of David (~30 pages in S1) and Lilith; Bright Lilim & their Choir Attunements; Geas Mechanics clarifications; In Nomine Los Angeles (complete with fiction at the front, somewhat) and a bunch of NPC characters, including the Bright Lilim, Mira; 2 adventures, one minor and one with the title as the book. Final Trumpet - 10-page expansions of Kobal (~30 pp in S2), Michael (~30 pp in S1), Malphas, and Baal; 2-3 page writeups of Khalid (~30 in S3) and Magog; a brief summary of the FotM adventure; the big sequal for FotM. Very keen cover art. FotM and FT have had, er, rather a lot of holes pointed out in their adventures. I shift blame in that they were mostly written already by the time I was on board... You can also see that much of the information from them is being mined for other books, leading to the Rev Cycle's obsolescence. But they generally have some nice art in them! O:> (Have I forgotten anything? Ah, well -- I have a full bladder and the baby woke up...) Her success has also made her a few enemies. Allied: Valefor (Valefor is allied to her) Associated: Andrealphus, Haagenti (Andrealphus and Furfur consider her an associate) Neutral: Everyone else except... Hostile: Fleurity, Lilith Enemy: Vapula (Vapula is neutral toward Abiressia) BASIC RITES *Hunt and kill an animal with your bare hands. *Persuade someone to give in to his or her instincts. *Spend a day in the wild naked, without tools and without spending Essence (+3 Essence). Chance of Invocation: 3 Abiressia is ready and willing to help her Servitors when they call on her. Just remember that she is a Lilim, so any such help constitutes a favor. Modifiers +1: After satisfying a basic need (i.e. food, water or sex). +2: Surrounded by wilderness. +3: A group of Humans reveling in their instincts. +4: An animal that doesn't recognize the sight or scent of Man. +5: A wild place that no Human has ever visited. +6: An animal of a species thought to be extinct. THE SKIN YOU'RE IN The Princess of the Wild has been quite active in infernal politics during her short tenure, and it shows in her peers' opinions of her. Demon Princes Alaemon: Such a pretty package must hide some really ugly things. _He wants my secrets? He's welcome to them... for a price_. Andrealphus: When she was mine, she gave excellent value for a fair price. I'm pleased to see that success hasn't spoiled her. Abiressia is one of the best I've ever trained - and you can take that however you like. _He was once my master, and he never misses an opportunity to remind me of that. That's all right. He is no longer my master, and I never miss an opportunity to remind him of that. But no other Prince does so much for my Word, so it behooves me to work with him_. Asmodeus: She keeps proper control of her organization. She is of little utility, but she is of equally little concern. _The solution to dealing with Asmodeus is to not do anything that would attract his attention. Discretion serves me better than boldness when it comes to the Game_. Baal: Are all of Andrealphus' former playthings going to get Words now? Oh, please, we don't need this! _He doesn't think that I've earned my place. But when Baal goes back to being a brand new demon, works his way up the ranks and carves out a Princedom for himself instead of having it handed to him for parroting the party line, he can talk to me about not having earned a place_. Beleth: Animals have nightmares, too, oh yes. I know what scares her charges, and I know what scares her. _Fear is instinctual, and therefore part of my Word. But so are rage and fighting tooth and nail when cornered. Let Beleth remember that when dealing with me_. Belial: As animals fear fire, so Abiressia fears me. _I avoid Belial, for he destroys all that I build. I will not weep when he is gone_. Fleurity: Critters don't do drugs -- but drugs get tested on them. She helps me out without even trying. _Those who put wild things in cages -- whether to gawk at them or experiment on them -- earn my wrath. Fleurity is almost as bad as Vapula_. Furfur: Yeah! This girl knows how to party! Too bad about the chastity belt, though. _When he's not breaking things, Furfur has a one-track mind. He wasn't good enough for me when I was just a demon of Lust, and he's no more to my liking now. He's the one to call when you need chaos, however_. Haagenti: What an incredible cook! She made this casserole for me once -- it was worth what she asked in return! _A disgusting, malodorous, execrable mass that is far too useful to do without_. Kobal: Do I like Abbie? Are you kidding? I looooove the look on her face when Lilith shows up wearing a fur coat! _Not the most potent Prince, but he makes up for it with subtlety. His Word involves too much thinking and not enough instinct to suit me, though_. Kronos: The beasts of the field also have Fates. I have more important things to see to, so I am pleased that Abiressia takes care of such minor details. _If he thinks my work is useful but unimportant, he'll stay out of my way. Which is exactly how I like it_. Lilith: It was a real surprise, her getting her Word and Princedom. I wonder what sort of... favors... she did for Lucifer to get them. _Ah, Mother, what need is there for envy? I guarantee that I love you as much as you'd expect any of your daughters to_. Malphas: Even in packs and prides, there are divisions and cliques. But Abiressia knows this, and she knows that the strongest will always lead. That makes her smarter than most of her so-called peers. _Malphas is the archetypal alpha, always clawing his way to the top of the pecking order. He can't be trusted, but he can be understood -- and as long as he's understood and properly managed, he's no threat_. Mammon: Who needs her and her dumb, moneyless animals? Dragons hoarded wealth. I miss dragons. _In the wild, everything you need is there if you have the strength to take it. I have no use for Mammon or his goods_. Nybbas: Picture this; former demon of Lust... hot, sweaty animals... Discovery Channel. Can you say, "ratings?" _His dependence on machines is a weakness that I cannot abide. Only the power of his Word makes him worthy of respect_. Pazuzu: Animals do not sin. She and her Word are of no concern to me. _Her plagues destroy the wilderness. I do not tolerate her_. Saminga: Abiressia is pretty, but so is roadkill. _Saminga is part of the cycle of life, just not so important a part as he thinks_. Valefor: How can I not like Abiressia? Ferrets, raccoons, magpies... many of her charges instinctively support my Word. _He takes what he wants when he wants it. He moves with his prey. He establishes his dominance whenever necessary. Here is a Prince who knows how to live by instinct_! Vapula: An excellent provider of experimental subjects and a pretty ornament for one's arm. Quite useless otherwise. _He destroys habitats and the creatures who live in them. His foul experiments must cease_! ===== Michael Walton, #9805-068 "Love is an exploding cigar which we willingy smoke." -- Linda Barry __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Well, with In Nomine - the core rulebook is really all you need, unlike some games in the WoD line - (Mage & GTTT comes to mind) Although there's only so much stuff you can cram into the core book. Basically, there's the Superior's book (which is sorta like a splatbook for superiors and servants) there's the Angelic & demonic players guides - and a bunch of supplimental books, such as You Are Here and The Marches for playing in certain settings. Most of the kewl stuff is in the Liber series - the book of Songs, the book of relics, and the book of tethers. - this is mostly for adding tons of options to the character. Finally, if you're GMing, metaplot information & adventures are found in the Revelations Cycle. As another idea, also, is subscribing to Pyramid, which has alot of In Nomine stuff - since the back issues are free with subscription, I'm sure you'll find something that's a good deal there. More worryingly, in one of Paul's Letters, it says that a demon/ the demonically possessed cannot say "Christ is Lord"; a demon doing so and pointing out the relevant passage in the Bible is going to have a a massive advantage when dealing with any Christian. What she didn't expect was the woman coming down the stairs, calling out "Merrin! Merrin Smith!" Merrin managed to stop, despite the lure of the Higher Heavens. "Yes?" The woman smiled sadly. "You're not quite ready for the Higher Heavens. I recommend against continuing. You can, of course - but surely it's better to complete everything down here first? It won't take long; at least by our standards of time. I can't stop you from continuing, but I really advise against it - and this means more to me than you can imagine." She smiled hopefully at Merrin. Merrin was crestfallen...she could feel the pull of the Higher Heavens, beckoning her, pulling at her, promising eternal bliss. As she prepared to move on, the strange woman spoke: "If you were ready for the Higher Heavens, would you find it so difficult to delay just a little while, to make yourself perfect?" Her eyes pleaded with Merrin... Merrin sagged, and weeping, began to trudge back down Jacob's Ladder, each step an unendurable grief. Eventually she reached the Lower Heavens, and slipped away, to be re-incarnated.... On the Stairs, the woman smiled, as she felt a huge rush of essence. Her own; if Merrin didn't have enough freedom to refuse the whims of a complete stranger, she didn't deserve Heaven! Plus the essence from Kronos, Kobal, Asmodeus, Malphas..... I strongly disagree, but that may be because I normaly don't give a flyin' fuck about gameterm stuff when it collides with my IN world. IMW (In My World) a nurse who is blessed would be give almost healinglike abilities borderlining what is humanly possible, a teacher would be a tremendous inspiration to his students, a cop would perhaps get an uncanny ability to sniff out a lying suspect, etc... For a Seraph, Leilani is remarkably unstraightforward. She has, in the past, espoused astrology and other divination-related fields as part of her Word...perspectives she has been loath to let go of, but which she understands are obsolete in the face of man's growing reliance on himself to chart his own course in life. After the Second World War, she began to reinterpret her Word, channeling its energies and her own into motivating humans to soar out towards the stars. As a result, Leilani's Servitors are a remarkably varied lot. Many of hers work in various government agencies, and not a few are in NASA, helping humans prepare for life away from earth. In keeping with the old interpretation of her Word, she also has many angels with Roles as Tarot readers and astrologers. Yet a steadily growing number of her angels work in space itself, charting, exploring, and generally preparing space for the arrival of homo sapiens. The War isn't out there yet, but when it does move out to the stars, Heaven will be ready. In Heaven, Leilani is remarkably busy for an Archangel. In addition to fostering her Word, she serves as Laurence's seneschal, overseeing the day-to-day operations of Heaven when the demands of the War keep the Archangel of the Sword busy. This is part of her most ancient of functions, and she remembers serving Uriel in this capacity. She is generally well-regarded by the other Archangels, and even the normally antagonistic Jordi appears to be charmed by the Archangel of the Heavens. Of the Demon Princes, only one has her undivided attention...Gendu, Prince of the Stars and her most bitter rival. When she chooses to appear on Earth, it is usually as a middle-aged woman, although such visits to the corporeal plane have become more and more infrequent in recent years. The more the War escalates, the more responsibilities she needs to fulfill in Heaven. Her Servitors make do with what they have until such time as mankind can sail between the stars, free of infernal influence. Choir Attunements Seraphim: Leilani's Seraphim understand space. Whenever they are in space, their senses become more keen -- they can detect Symphonic disturbance as if it were doubled, and their mundane senses are twice as sensitive as they would normally be. Cherubim: Cherubim of the Heavens are aware of all spatial bodies within their line-of-sight, even those not normally visible to the unaided eye. Ofanim: Even in space, Ofanim will never get lost. They instinctively know the direction to Terra and the Sol system. Elohim: Elohim of the Heavens receive one Knowledge skill at level 6. This Knowledge skill is always related to space science in some way (ex. Xenobiology, Stellar Cartography, Starship Design, Astrogation, Terraforming), even for sciences that have yet to be developed by man. However, allowing the information this attunement grants to fall into a human's hands without Leilani's (and Jean's) consent earns the angel a note of dissonance! This attunement can be purchased more than once. Malakim: The vessels of Leilani's Malakim are immune to the ravages of vaccuum and the biting cold of space, and do not require air. Kyriotates (restricted): Kyriotates in space need not fear being recalled to Heaven. However they must find and possess a suitable vessel within 1 hour of entering a planet's atmosphere. GMs are encouraged to adjust this time limit, depending on how fast the Domination can get to the planet's surface. Mercurians: On viewing a planet, a Mercurian of the Heavens automatically becomes aware of whether or not that planet can support terrestrial life, and whether or not that planet is currently inhabited. On a successful Perception roll, he can learn the nature of that life (more information is revealed at higher CDs). Bright Lilim (restricted): Gifters in Leilani's service automatically succeed in their resonance rolls against people of the same astrological sign (roll anyway to determine check digit). Leilani calculates the Bright's sign from the moment of her redemption. Archaic Choir Attunements Leilani began reinterpreting her Word in the late 1940's, when man began taking the idea of space exploration seriously. Consequently, she revamped her Choir attunements, requiring all her active Servitors to trade in their old attunements for her new ones. Unfortunately, not all angels of the Heavens have complied, and Leilani's been too busy to chase after them. These are her archaic Choir attunements, presented here for the creation of older angels of the Heavens. These attunements all grant bonuses to her followers whenever certain heavenly bodies are visible. Holders of these attunements are always aware of where these bodies are in relation to their current location, whether or not they can be seen. Seraphim (restricted): Seraphim of the Heavens are especially attuned to the sun. Whenever the sun is visible, they receive a bonus to the CD of their successful resonance rolls equal to their Celestial Forces. Although the other Choir attunements are similar and are only partially restricted, Leilani has never granted this attunement to non-Seraphim in her service. Cherubim (partially restricted): Sirius, the Dog Star, is also the patron star of Leilani's Cherubim. Whenever Sirius is visible, Cherubim of the Heavens become keenly aware of the condition and direction of their attuned, and may de-attune automatically should they wish to do so. Other Choirs receive their Choir bonuses and effects whenever Sirius is visible. Ofanim (partially restricted): Polaris, the Pole Star, is the patron star of Lelani's Ofanim. Whenever Polaris is visible, Wheels of the Heavens move twice as fast in celestial form and halve the time it takes to calculate the fastest path to their destination. Other Choirs receive their Choir bonuses and effects whenever Polaris is visible. Elohim (partially restricted): Leilani's Dynamis are attuned to Venus, long regarded as the ruler of passion and emotion. Whenever Venus is visible, they gain a bonus equal to the CD of any successful resonance roll equal to their Celestial Forces. Other Choirs receive their Choir bonuses and effects whenever Venus is visible. Malakim (partially restricted): The darkest of Leilani's agents, Malakim of the Heavens receive a bonus to the CD of any successful resonance roll equal to their Celestial Forces whenever Mars is visible. Other Choirs receive their Choir bonuses and effects whenever Mars is visible. Kyriotates (partially restricted): Auroras are special to Kyriotates of the Heavens, who usually congregate where they are visible. Whenever and wherever an aurora is present, Kyriotates of the Heavens are free to assume celestial form without fear of being recalled to Heaven. Other Choirs receive their Choir bonuses and effects whenever an aurora is visible. Mercurians (restricted): While it is generally believed that Mercury itself is the patron heavenly body of Heaven's Mercurians, Leilani's Intercessors know better. They are actually attuned to the constellation of their birth, and automatically succeed in any resonance roll against people of the same astrological sign (roll anyway to determine check digit). Leaving aside whether Lilith'd get essence for this (what Rites is she actually fulfilling? and can you re-incarnate if you've reached your Destiny and gone to Heaven? help me out here?) I'm thinking Lilith is taking a big risk hanging around the Ladder... come along a Divine Intervention, and she might start wondering more and more about what's up the top... and hey, she's Freedom, she can go and do whatever she likes, right...? Hmm. :) Shane. ------------------------------ End of in_nomine-digest V1 #2452 ********************************
