Fantastic and interesting selection of stories. Just the sort of thing that Kenneth Hite suggests in Suppressed Transmission! Thanks for that! However, I thought that there might be an alternative explanation. As we all know, politicians are merely tools of corporations, parties, interest groups or whoever controls them, usually these are higher powers than the simple human. How about if they really were Higher Powers? Angelic Spin Doctors. It strikes me that angels with control of a few politicians could promulgate this sort of idea and make it look like just typical bizarre politiking rather than obvious Heavenly intervention and thus drawing in the demons. In the description it is stated that if their Resonance roll succeeds it is in effect for a couple of minutes. Does this mean that they know "certain things" of all the persons they encounter in this time period or just the one person they targeted their Resonance on? Another question is about the Divine Logic attunement of Yves. A player in my group wants this attunement but I've read that some gamesmasters have a problem with this attunement as it gives a kind of pseudo-Balseraph ability to an Angel. In Hell, his small Principality had become a lush but fetid swamp, filled with rolling miasmas and sweltering in the heat from Sheol. Here he and his Servitors cultivated the anthisis of human life, the disease. Once his knowledge of the frailties of humanity had reached what he deemed an acceptable level, he sent his Servitors to Earth. There they used the techniques learned in Hell to introduce new sicknesses and ill health to the race they were sworn to destroy. As mankind came to fear these new threats, the more social-minded Servitors of Disease started to play upon the fears of humanity. The practise of ostracising and destroying the diseased began, and right there with it were Makatiel's Balseraphs, convincing people that _any_ sign of infirmity was a sign of sickness. Children born even slightly deformed were put to death, anyone suspected of leprosy was stoned from afar. The Word of Disease began to soar. Heaven was at something of a loss to deal with this new threat, at first. Makatiel had never been a particularly active Prince on the Corporeal Plane, and so his sudden move came as something of a shock. But both Novalis and David were quick to respond, in their own ways, with the Archangel of Flowers teaching her Soldiers how to create new medicines (with a little help from Eli), and the Archangel of Stone working to remove the breeding grounds on Disease. Makatiel was in some way balanced by these actions, but he was by no means defeated, and he continued to work away, quietly and patiently. Time beyond human comprehension passed. The War continued, and Hell suffered both its setbacks and its victories. Vephar was destroyed, Gebbeleth and Genubath lost. Makatiel worked on, finding ever more devious ways to spread his afflictions. When a culture was rendered mostly immune to a certain disease, he would spend a decade or so aiding in the construction of shipping routes to carry fresh sicknesses to them. Those plagued by mental diseases were tossed into hellish "asylums", where his servants could study them for inspiration. He promoted the concept of a healthy mind in a healthy body, driving people to destroy anything which fell short of "perfection". Humanity turned upon itself beautifully. But it wasn't enough. For every town or city razed by disease, for every child devoured by a fever, there were a thousand new humans born. And so, quietly, Makatiel began to make his plans for a final solution. The Prince of Disease began to work on his final scheme shortly after the birth of Christ. Prince Saminga had begun to flood the Earth with the Undead by this point, and a great many of these were claimed by Makatiel and torn apart as he studied them. Souls in his Principality were subjected to tortures that would not be seen again until the time of Vapula. All the while his servitors continued to work as ever on earth, releasing viler and viler plagues, and creating "religious" orders such as the Flagalents. It was more than a thousand years after he started planing his great work that Makatiel began to put it into action, but then, he was nothing if not thurough. The year of Legion was a true blessing for him, and one for which he gave great thanks to God. The Renegade Prince consumed the souls of thousands of humans, thousands of souls which were lost, never to be seen again. It was only to be expected that this would have a knockon effect in the Celestial Realms, with souls becoming briefly rarer in Hell. Most of the Princes went a little short on this, and no-one was able to keep track of who had how many souls at the time. So no-one noticed the brief, sharp intake of the damned into the Principality of Disease, or thought to question how they all could have fitted into such a small area. A rare few noticed, but the loss was put down to the fact that so many of Legions victims had been disease-carriers who _should_ have ended up there, but of course hadn't. Makatiel was pleased with the results of his test, and gave the word to his Servitors to start work on sending out the most virulant plague he had created yet. In the middle of the 14th century, the Black Plague swept across Europe. It was a horror unlike anything ever seen before, leaving entire cities dead in it's wake. And behind it all was the smiling Makatiel. In 1348 the Death was at it's peak, and Makatiel had travelled to the Corporeal Realm to watch it's effects. While there, a wave of Celestials lead personally by Dominic and Asmodeus overcame him. His Forces were scattered across the earth, most of the demons in his service were put to death, and Gabriel and Belial was manipulated into burning the disease away. In Hell, the River of soul within it. Heaven and Hell were told that Makatiel had pushed the Black Death to such a horrific level of virulence that it had threatened the entire Corporeal Realm, and it was only his destruction that had brought it under control. This was True. But it was not the _whole_ Truth. Makatiel's scheme was far worse than the obliteration of all corporeal life. The Black Plague was only a cover for the true horror he had released. This disease, dubbed Mens Insana, was not a physical malady, but a spiritual one - Makatiel had created a Celestial disease. The very souls of those afflicted were weakened to the point where by their very forces would fracture and disband. The Prince of Disease would not be satisfied with the simple physical destruction of humanity, even their presence in Hell was abhorant to him. They had to be removed from every plane of existance. Once they had been removed from earth, then Makatiel would release the Mens Insana unto both Heaven and Hell, and then nothing would be left of the children of Adam. Only his highest-ranking demons were privalage to this information, and only they had been given the samples of the Celestial Plague to carry to earth. Had Asmodeus not uncovered the plot, and called upon Dominique for help, it is certain that Makatiel would have succeeded where Legion had failed two hundred years earlier. As it was, the plague was only released into a few cities before it was contained and purged, though the hundreds of souls in the Principality of Disease had all become infected and were lost. All those in Hell with knowledge of these events were put to death, and Makatiel's legacy was lost. Apperantly. - --- Attunements et al come tomorrow in #3... _____________________________________________ Free email with personality! Oh, I suppose you want a more helpful answer. All right. I don't have the book in front of me, but I recall taht it takes 1 Essence to activate and the target gets a Will roll to resist. Given that 90% of all demonic resonance is based of Will, you can bet they'll have high scores in that area. So that's already two obstacles they have to clear, and a clever GM can engineer situations where one or the other cannot be surmounted should he/she decide it is not in the best interests of the GM for Divine Logic to succeed. Or.... you could be bastardly, and state that if the demon succeeds on the Will roll, it effectively performs a reversal and gets a chance to convince the *angel* of any one thing.... - -- Casca "Many people hear voices when no-one is there. That in >itself is an interesting moral dilemma to throw at PC's. Actually, I came up with a particularly warped idea awhile ago, involving Destiny, Fate, and a Habbalite... (It hasn't been posted in full - yet.) The gist of it is that a fairly old Elohite of Judgement (8-Force Reliever of Judgement at about the time of Gabriel's Trial) Fell shortly after Eli went on walkabout from Judge-dissonance. (It felt Dominic's decision to prosecute Gabriel and Eli, and others like Michael, were heretical, but didn't report them. Thus, Judge-dissonance.) The new Habbalite hasn't bound to a Prince, though he *does* have an...arrangement...with Lilith. He's also being stalked by almost every Superior, prime among them Michael/Gabriel/Dominic/Yves for Heaven, Kobal/Asmodeus/Kronos for Hell. He's only lasted this long because the arrangement with Lilith involved her help with his 'situation'. Why is he being stalked, you ask? Simple. Ping him with Malakite resonance/CD 6, with Divine Destiny/etc, with any Attunement or Resonance that reveals ultimate nature extremes...and you find his best, brightest, most Divine being is as a Habbalite, while his worst, darkest, Damnedest being is as an Elohite. (Specifics involve general callous, ruthless, 'Divine Executioner'-style Power of Judgement, and being instrumental in the salvation of a number of demons as a Punisher.) More, he fully realizes that he is Fallen - and worse, no matter how much he wishes to, he can't Redeem, because he'd either Fall again in a heartbeat from lack of objectivity, or damn himself and others in meeting his Fate. It isn't even smoking. The Skates themselves look like nothing more than somewhat large boots. When put on, the user can feel a toggle switch in the left boot: push on it, and the soles of the boots smoothly peel back to reveal a silvery material. Experimentation will reveal that this material is completely frictionless, thus allowing the wearer to glide over any solid surface as if it were ice. Toggling the switch will cause the lining to retract, allowing normal movement. Now, this would be the point where an experienced entity might wince, but it quickly becomes clear that the activated boots are not a waiting trap. There's some kind of sophisticated stabilization going on around here: it's almost literally impossible to fall down while wearing them. In fact, someone could surf down a narrow banister while wearing them, with nary a wobble. That's really ... odd, considering the source. Wait a second: the boots' linings have retracted back, and won't pop out again. What? No! It can't be! There's a ... there's a manual. This has got to be some sort of captured Revelations and Development equipment. Well, now: apparently it is (the basic design, at least). It turns out that the boots are powered by the (perfectly safe and non-radioactive) backpack also found in the crate. They go too far away from the power source and they shut down automatically. Seems reasonable. Looks like the battery has enough juice for a few more centuries of use... hmm. What are those nozzles for? Ah. Clever: they're exhaust pipes. According to the schematic, the backpack also contains possibly the most powered propellers on the corporeal plane: when fired up, this baby will provide clean and nonpolluting thrust sufficient to propel the average entity at a speed of up to 125 mph. Neat, but what about ... oh, there's the helmet. Goggles, too. And, my God, yes, heavy gloves - hmm, they seem to direct the thrust of the exhaust - and knee pads. Vapula must have done nothing to this design. Better read the manual all the way through, first, just to make sure that there aren't any little surprises ... that's IT? The only problem with this thing is that it, when active, temporarily bollixes up 'inherent and learned celestial abilities'? That is a bit of a problem - and odd, considering that this thing doesn't seem to be an artifact at all. Must be a problem with the power source. Well, increased difficulty in using Songs or a resonance isn't so bad - - oh, wait, the manual says not to bother with trying to take celestial form while this thing is buckled on. Damn: that crimps things a bit. Still, with one of these babies you could go almost as fast as an Ofanite. That's got to be useful, especially if one has a human that needs to keep up with the rest of the group. One does wonder why it was locked away, though. Of course, Vapula is insane ... but Sparky isn't, so why is that his sigil on the lock? ===== Liber Licentiae Moeticae: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 11/13/01(this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Luckily, he doesn't play favorites. He does, however, reserve the right to add ... complexities ... to the entire shebang. Glad to hear people liked this one, BTW. "sorry about the language" I don't see what the problem is quite frankly. To rule with an iron fist, I thought that just meant to rule while maintaining a stranglehold on all those who might oppose you. Quite frankly, this isn't very necessary if you keep the masses happy with enough cable-satellite (sp?) TV, food, sports and maybe a War to give them a common enemy. Doesn't even have to be a real war. Iron fisted control over the media would accomplish this. :) And can't a benevolant dictator rule with an iron fist as well? - -Perry perrylloyd@hotmail.com pl312993@oak.cats.ohiou.edu http://www.geocities.com/perrylloyd/ "And that's the hardest thing for a human being to do - be wrong.
