"It was long that I have been in exile. I have seen so much in my travels. I have walked with humans of all colors and creeds. For a time I wandered the Marches, watching with equal glee and terror the dreams that mortals imagine and create. I have seen angels twist with evil until they resemble and then become that which they fear and hate most. I have seen demons who have awoken to the Truth and sacrificed everything up to, and indeed including in some cases, their very existence in order to hear the Voice of God in the great and glorious Symphony. I have seen Infernal evil and Divine grace etched into the faces of humans. I thought long ago that I had seen all there was for one such as I to see... But you!? Welcoming back us?! This... no... Have I missed something? Has Kobal redeemed? Is that it?!" "ilostabet." "What, Most Just?" "I LOST A BET! ALRIGHT! ELI WON! I LOST! ARE YOU HAPPY? NOW GET BACK UP HERE AND START DOING THE LORD'S WORK AGAIN, SONG!" Lewis is also the author of. It's a fascinating look at the "why" of demons. In addition, "Perelandra" is part of the "Space Trilogy," which consists of "Out of the Silent Planet," "Perelandra," and "That Hideous Strength." The last of these I found to be remarkably chilling. Now that you mention it, the Space Trilogy is rife with a lot of potential IN material waiting to be mined. Thanks for reminding me of it, I'll have to give them another read. =) - --- ============================================================ Jonathan McDermott http:\\caraig.home.mindspring.com - ------------------------------------------------------------ "And now I feel that... feel that I've been there. Keith" Subject: IN> New Attunements (Really, This Time! ;^) ) Just some ideas I've been playing around with. The two for Novalis are Servitor Attunements (or, slightly altered, could be relics). The remainder are Choir or Band Attunements. Jean's could be an alternate attunement, either old or new; for that matter, it might be a difficult use of the plain Ofanite resonance, for any Ofanite. Vapula's is a use the Genius Prince might actually have for Calabim -- besides the simple pleasure of ocasionally watching one of the entropic fools blow themselves up. :^) Novalis Laurel Crown Though it may seem martial, this Attunement in fact discourages violence. To activate, the angel weaves a crown of laurel (or closely-related plants) and gives it to someone who has been victorious in mortal combat in the past (maker's Celestial Forces) days. For the next (wearer's Celestial Forces) days, anyone who would consider themself aligned with the previous loser must make a Will roll to willingly engage in combat with the wearer. Braided Palm A braid of palm leaves is the traditional symbol of a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. For this Attunement, the angel braids palm leaves or similar material, and gives the braid to someone who has seen Heaven. For a number of days equal to the Essence invested, the wearer carries an "air" of the New Jerusalem. Game effects are up to the GM, but probably include positive reaction bonuses -- except from demons! Jean Ofanite: When piloting a vehicle, the Ofanite can *multiply* the maximum speed of the vehicle by any desired amount up to its Corporeal Forces! This uses up any fuel at the multiplied rate, as well. Safe piloting in any except the safest circumstances will also require a piloting skill roll, at a penalty equal to the multiplier. Vapula Calabim: A gray, putty-like substance with no telltale chemical reactivity or electrical activity, this explosive can store and release the Calabite resonance. The Calabite resonates the material and drops it somewhere desired; the material will explode at a time of his desiring within 24 hours. Roll damage for the Calabite's natural resonance to anything within 1 yard; using more portions will multiply the damage and range(decrease one damage multiplier for every yard further away). However, every day a Calabite carries the material, he must roll higher than (Celestial Forces) on d6, or it will explode prematurely. Those with 6 Celestial Forces must roll 4 or better every hour. Though it is sarcastically called "the Calabite of Technology Attunement", this device is in fact simply provided (sometimes gratis) to the rare Calabite that Vapula gets on loan from another Demon Prince, or teams up with Technology Servitors, on a mission. However, it is also available for services, Geas, or other payment, if a high-ranking demon of Technology is "buying." 1 character point (or 3 GURPS character points) will obtain enough of the substance for 10 uses. William ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 03 Feb 2002 20:09:04 -0500 From: "Tyler Childers" Subject: IN> Deluge Background Crossposted to the gurps yahoo group The Deluge. A campaign using the Gurps worldbooks, In Nomine, Cabal, Cthulhupunk and Deadlands. The basics are as follows. There is the Four Realms, and something Outside them as well. God, in canon In Nomine, is an ascended ethereal. In Cabal, he is the ruling Eikone of the Briathic Realm, and all that lies below. The Abyss contains Hell, amongst other weird stuff. Azulith is the ultimate Creator Force, and may or may not be the god of the Isrealites, Yahweh. Well, I should correct myself, God was the ruling Eikone. Now none of the Heavenly powers are sure. They are too busy fighting a war. A war with four sides. The Divine Angels, The Infernal Demons, the Old Gods (not quite as powerless as we thought), and the Others. Others? Well, lets call them the Great Old Ones. And they want to eat the Symphony for breakfast. Nylarthotep is thier chef. And he used to be known as the Archangel of Purity, Uriel. How did that happen? Well, lets say that in his quest to keep purity after the fall of Lucifer ( keeping in mind this. As the Christian religion swept the world, Yahweh grew in power, and thus rewrote much of the Symphony in his favor. Also know that the combined forces of all the Realms, the Assiah, our earth, the Astral planes of Ystiguh and Briah, and the prime force, Aztilhuth far outweigh the might of the GOO. But not for long. Steps have been taken.) Uriel found a source of great impurity in the heart of space. Azathoth. And when he found him, something bad happened. Uriel failed his Mythos Fright check. Oh crap. Now an archangel in a powerful thing. It takes time to corrupt one, at least one of Uriel's mettle. So, at least on a cosmic scale, Uriel went on business as usual ( aside from forgetting Azothoth even exsists). But deep inside changes were afoot. The core of his being was twisted. And he started to lead a double life. On one side, Nylarthotep, the Crawling Chaos, on the Other, Uriel the Cruasader. As far as IN canon goes. Uriel calls his fight against the pagan ways as usual with much the same timetable and personnel. The crusade was enginered by him for a twofold purpose. One, too weaken on side of the War, the "ethereal" gods, and the various mythic critters. And two, too cause a schism in Heaven. The first plan served to also weaken the mana of earth. In Cabal terms, magic divides into the Decans that flow from the Azitluth, the realm of the Prime mover, to the Briahitic to the astral ( most of the etheral, or Marches) to Assiah, the "corporeal" realm. The gods of earth, Yahweh included, along with the gryphons, dragons, and other wee beasties of myth served as bees, spreading the pollen of those Decans around the material reealm. It makes magic happen. Magic that we can use, with training, or luck. Nytlarthotep didn't jive with that. So the Cruasde was launced. And there earth lost a great deal of mana. In basic rules, going from normal to low. And in balance, the Symphony shifted. And created a great membrane around Assiah. Magic still flowed, but slowly, The idea of the Membrance becomes important later. Blandine hated the idea. Alot. The other Archangels weren't exaclty pleased as punch either. But they let it happen. Not knowing that they were sealing their doom. War often spreads hate. And the old gods had plenty of reason to hate Uriel and Heaven. Hate can lead to corruption. And Nylarthotep likes that. Alot. So in several guises, he sows his seeds amongst the old gods and the demons of Hell. When Heaven won't accept the old gods, Hell will. Corrupt gods, spreading like a cancer. Exchanging small favors for essence, feeding it to the King in Yellow, the Architect of the Fall of the Symphony, the old gods did exaclty as needed. So when the Heavenly council called Uriel to the mat, all he had to do was let the disquise drop. Fear did the rest. As Uriel channeled a great part of Azathoth, and his Servitors into Heavens Heart. The battle was terrible. Heaven burned and the angels fled. Or hid, there really was nowhere else to go. Some accepted a decrease in power for life on earth. Some hid in the Marches, over time merging with the old gods, or becoming new ones. All of them asking the same question. Why did God let this happen. The legions of Hell asked the same thing when Nylarthotep attacked them too, pusing them deeper into the abyss, waking the great Leviatian causing all sorts of troubles. The Membrane was now the divinding line. The celestesials were cut off greatly. Entering the Corporeal was much more difficult now. The Symphony liking it even less now. Greater events of Discord would push them out. More things caused dissonance. Of the Celestials, a few remain on earth for good, finding new ways to get Essence. Eli, creates, and so does Valpula. And they are on opposing sides. David became one with the earths crust, drawing power from nature, living in cornert with Novalis. Let's leave the fates of others to gaming, shall we? Ideas anyone. So many Celestials, so many possiblities. Laurance? Oh, yeah. The last Hope. Christianity still flourishes. As does belief in God. The Sword is still active, and the patron of the Catholics. There is faith and hope and higher causes. Laurence is still as strong as ever, stronger, since he is a greater source of Essence from the Prime Mover. But dont kid yourself. He ain't a rebel. He is a pawn. Hope tastes good when it is crushed. The sound of faith crumbling is music to the ears. Higher causes makes those that follow them fall farther. The King in Yellow at work, in the background. Now the next step is ready. The worlds stage is dressed for one more act. It is the late1800's. All it takes is the corruption of one brave man. A man with the right mix of anger, self-assured righteousness, and a Higher Cause. Raven. And the Reckoning. The Great Old ones are riding out west. More later. _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ End of in_nomine-digest V1 #2536 ********************************
