The question of course isn't so much that social development lags behind technological development in my mind but that people create stirs with technology that aren't necessarily ready to exist. The problems with artifical wombs and indeed to a greater extent cloning (I'm going sound Ian Malcolm Luddite here) is that more effort is spent developing (it seems to me at least) things that 100% controllable in a lab when perhaps more effort should be devoted to tinkering/improving on existent proven biological technology (i.e. the human engine). Of course who am I to say. If this were adapted Jean and company would be working still on getting human brains up to Cray super computer power and telepathy for the internet - -Charlemagne _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Feb 2002 19:19:58 -0500 (EST) From: Paul Watson Subject: Re: IN> Greetings ... and advice sought Hello, Thanks for the advice, Elizabeth. It helped me decide which books to start with. Now all I have to do is count the days until I get my annual bonus :). Is this the time to request that whoever writes up Jordi expands the rules for animals? Given that they are hosts, Servants, Zombis & Vessels it'd make my life a lot easier..(Grr PC Kyriotates Grr). :-) Cheers, James. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 00:01:31 -0500 From: "William J. Keith" Subject: IN> Addiction: Demonic Resonances I was thinking: it would be really easy for a human, or maybe even a celestial, to get hooked on the Habbalite Resonance. Its advantages over normal addiction: 1.) The effect is guaranteed. What do you want to feel: Happiness? Sadness? Anger? Simply forego your resistance roll and let the Habbalite play with your brain. 2.) No nasty chemical remainders to test for. 3.) No tolerance buildup. If anything, repeated use of the Habbalite resonance on someone is going to *weaken* their Will rolls. 4.) No overdosing. Only the strongest Habbalah (and by this I probably mean Princes) can give you an intense enough emotion to actually kill you. There are a couple of downsides, of course. The major one is that you're dependent on a Habbalite "dealer," who is doubtless going to demand resources and services for his "product." Another is that, if you're depending on an external source for emotions, you could be letting a serious internal problem worsen. Eventually, you might practically lose the ability to feel anything without Habbalite support; ironically, by pushing emotion, the Habbalite has managed to engender permanent Emptiness in his junkie. Other such addictions would be harder to feed. For example, there's Addiction: Shedite Possession. A certain kind of personality might be pleased with the opportunity to let someone else climb in their head and do the driving while they just sit back and watch the mayhem. Of course, such persons will be almost impossible to corrupt any further, very quickly; about the only Shedim that can make real use of such "rides" are those of the Game. However, they might be willing to provide services in exchange for a few hours of joyriding once every few days. Addiction: Balseraph Resonance might be akin to a hallucinogen, leading the target to believe that they are world-famous, rich, or otherwise in a more pleasant state than their real life -- however, it would also be considerably more difficult to feed, I think.
