Also I'm not sure if this is an adevnture seed or a campaign seed, but I think that it's got some potential... To do damage to Moe's cerebelum, of course. ^_^ Vapula does not believe in chance. Oh, he'll admit that so many things might appear to be random or serendipitous on the surface of things but he knows, deep down, that behind everything is the hand of God Himself. He might not know why God has arranged things the way they are, but the fact that the One Above hasn't told him otherwise means he must be playing his own part properly. Also, sometimes at least, he sees a hint of the Hand of God as it hands him a gift under the disguise of "coincidence". It always seems to be something interesting which he had been looking for, but at others it is something completely unexpected. (Of course, he pretends not to notice that it is God tampering with things again. After all, he has to keep up his part...) The latest example of this happening has been most fascinating, diverting from his usual hard science approach to Symphonic mechanics to one which delved more into the realm of psychology. It all began in a cafe, you see. (It was always important to help your Servitors learn to expect the unexpected. After all, even if you thought you knew everything, you always had to test again to make sure that nothing had been changed while you weren't paying attention.) He had explaining to a Servitor about exactly why their sacrifice would be so necessary, remarking on how their continued failure in other areas had made relegation to 'test subject' unfortunately necessary, when a voice had asked him if he wanted anything. Glancing up at the human in question, his attention was drawn like a magnet to the name tag she wore on the front of her uniform and what he read there gave him a touch of amusement. It was only when he focused more fully upon her that he realized just what a treasure had almost literally been dropped in his lap. This human had a Force from a deceased Superior within her being. (And she did asked if he wanted anything...) The Demon Prince of Technology had encountered this phenomena a few times before, but this case seemed to be slightly different. Absently, he sent her away and gave a look at the Servitor accompanying him to signal a wish for silence in which to think. An experiment had come to mind, of seeing if something could made of this Force by helping it grow through invoking the Word of it's former owner. When Vapula left, he already had the beginnings of a very interesting plan. A pair of his Inspectors, Olwin and Weiss, were assigned to keep track of and implement their Superior's plan for the lady in question. A Balseraph and Djinn respectively, they have not appreciated each other's company much but have so far made a remarkably effective team in this assignment. The pair are under orders to slowly chip away at all the connections about the waitress, to gradually reduce those things that link her to the rest of the world, but not to actually hurt her or allow her to come to harm. They have been doing a wonderful job so far of following their order, the equipment which they had been provided with by the Archangel of Technology working surprisingly well, and have been seamlessly removing such that they can find. This has had an immediate effect on their target as possession, people and other such thing seems to be gradual disappearing into oblivion leaving only her memories of their existence. The first few weeks were little things such as keys and photographs, but two days ago she found that nobody in her work place seemed to have ever heard of her. It was only this morning that this strange clarity came over things though, the world seeming somehow more lucid to her even though she keeps hear these strange noises in the background. That doesn't seem to bother as much as it should though, not since a strange hollowness had opened deep inside her mind around lunch time. Staring at her name tag, she again and again reads it but it doesn't seem quite right. According to the label, she is supposedly named "Marie L."... - - Richard Drysdale (merior@talk21.com) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Apr 2002 20:30:43 +0100 From: "Merior" Subject: IN> Contest Entry: Outside, Wanting to Come In Well, here is a second one which I hope can make Moe's brain hurt or at least cause a shudder... Okay, let's just talk about Forces for a minute. When a Celestial is stripped off all its Corporeal forces then it can no longer manifest on the Corporeal plane. There is a simple enough reason behind that if you think about. Those Forces are the anchor which lets the Celestial in question have a foot hold into that part of the Symphony. Now, imagine that somehow that Celestial been in Vessel at the time this occurred. They would leave it behind them, just an empty shell from which the essential "them" had departed as they were kicked out of the Corporeal region of the Symphony. Right? Couldn't somebody could keep the body alive if they really tried then? Put it on life-support and it should sit there quite nicely without an "occupant" lie any lump of living meat. Now, obviously the body couldn't do anything at all could it now? After all, it has no mind at all. On the other hand, if you could somehow path some Ethereal Forces in there and a couple of Corporeal ones to let it control the body... Well, wouldn't that be something suspiciously like a Remnant? >From this point of view, soul-killing somebody would be just making them loose their grip on the Symphony as a whole wouldn't it? Each Celestial Force stripped would be another bits of "them" exiled from the Symphony. Wait a moment, aren't those Forces the very embodiment of Perception and Will though? Imagine being trapped, just out of reach of a glorious warmth, a fraction beyond the Symphony you knew. To be able to see it there in front of you, maddeningly close but still beyond your grasp. You never know anything except for the moment so you mindlessly push against whatever is keeping you out, never able to even -think- of doing anything else. As the War goes on, more and more Celestials loose Celestial Force or are even soul-killed. More and more might find themselves trapped "on the other side of the glass" and straining to get back in. The second-edition errata is actually more clear. Basic corporeal personal combat starts with: Corporeal Forces + Strength. If you are using an attack that requires Precision, that becomes Corporeal Forces + Precision. (So far, Ranged Weapons do _NOT_ add Corporeal Forces; this encourages people to get down and dirty instead of making the GM figure out sniper mods.) So default brawling is: Corporeal Forces + Strength. Fighting target number is: Corporeal Forces + Strength + Fighting skill Small Weapon target # is: Corporeal Forces + Precision + Weapon skill Large Weapon target # is: Corporeal Forces + Strength + Weapon skill Ranged Weapon target number is: Precision + Weapon skill How's that? But it was a fun write, and I hope it's a fun read. Enjoy. ;) Manny Neps http://www.geocities.com/angeloffools Belial Ofanite Archangel of the Flame The world is energy, hot and quick. Ancient and inscrutable, Belial stands as a monument to the faith of Heaven in its ultimate victory against Hell. In the days of the Fall, when the Lightbringer brought many of his fellow angels to temptation, Belial alone stood untested against the seduction of the Darkness and thus faced his former comrades and master. With the help of Uriel, Archangel of Purity, he defeated Gabriel and was raised to Archangel by a grateful Seraphim Council. As Archangel of the Flame, Belial is charged with Gabriel's ancient duties of being God's messenger and his scourge -- although the task of prophecy, apparently, is not his to bear. As such, he and his face the Prince of Fire day after day, seeking to end the bitter conflict that lies at the heart of their rivalry. He has, admittedly, not given up on Gabriel's return to Heaven's graces, although his close friends Dominic and Laurence have repeatedly urged him to. In the meantime, the angels of the Flame struggle to keep the spark of divinity alive in mankind, and to keep mankind from burning in the pits of Hell. He understands the need to burn with devotion, but is himself essentially as passionless as any Elohite. Belial has no preference as to his form on Earth, although he has been known, in times past, to favor the vessel of a reputable scientist who worked on the Manhattan Project. When he contacts his Servitors it is always without regard for their current project or assignment; he is always too caught up in the essentials of the moment to care. Still, he has been known to "lend a hand" when things get too rough for his Servitors...although what follows has often been described as being far, far worse than anything his angels could have done alone. Constant as a candle flame in a darkened room, the Archangel of the Flame strives daily to fill the roles Gabriel left behind, keeping his own devotion to this long-lost master a secret from himself and from those who follow his path. It remains to be seen whether this devotion is mere fuel for the pyre of his undoing. Dissonance The cruel must feel Belial's flame and be purified. Belial's angels cannot shirk from their duties as Heaven's scourges: the cruel must feel God's wrath within three days or the angel will gain dissonance. Punishing the cruel will remove the dissonance, but any dissonance beyond the first note must be removed another way. Choir Attunements Choir Attunements are essentially unchanged from their canonical attunements (see IN) except for the following attunement: Malakim (partially restricted) In exchange for the oath "Suffer not a prophet to live", Malakim of the Flame can, on a succesful Perception roll, identify Prophets. They are adept at identifying those who exercise sexual cruelties, and consider it their responsibility to teach such perverts a lesson. Angels of other Choirs taking this attunement will be able to spot the cruel, but will not be granted the ability to identify Prophets. Servitor Attunements Flamestrike As per Gabriel's canonical Smite attunement (see IN). Pyrokinesis For a minimum of 1 Essence, an angel of the Flame can generate fire from nothingness. The amount of flame and its intensity will determine the amount of Essence that is required to facilitate the use of this attunement. Distinctions Vassal of the Flame Fires within a fifty-foot radius of a Vassal of the Flame will not burn without his express permission. Friend of Fire A Friend of Fire can bend flame to his will, ordering it to do his bidding on a successful Will roll. Master of the Torch On a successful Will roll, A Master of the Torch can order a fire to restore what it has consumed within the last 24 hours. Relations Dovetailing cleanly with Belial's responsibilities are those of Dominic, Archangel of Judgment, one of Belial's strongest supporters since the days of the Fall. Alone of the Archangels in Heaven, Khalid has earned Belial's mistrust, mostly because the Archangel of Faith insists that the Prince of Fire was right in dictating the Koran to Mohammed. Allied: Dominic, Laurence (Dominic is allied with Belial) Associated: Eli, Janus (David, Eli, Laurence and Janus are associated with Belial) Neutral: All else, except Hostile: Khalid (Khalid is hostile to Belial) Enemy: Gabriel (Gabriel considers Belial an enemy) Rites - - Stand for an hour in 400-degree Centigrade heat. - - Participate in a mortal religious activity. It, too, had AOL Received headers. If there is not a need for the list to share .exe, .mp3, .vbs or other types of file-type attachments[1], could we snip these sorts of things at the list server? Too much overhead? [1] I don't think there is. For one, odds are the attachment would take the mail over the posting size limit. Two, people who want to point to IN relevant MP3s or Christmas Elves shockwave files can do so with URL references. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Apr 2002 18:40:23 -0500 From: "William J. The link is http://www.sjgames.com/in-nomine/articles/new/Gallery/Soldiers/sailorsenshi.html if you want to go see. :^) The quick overview is this: Blandine created the Sailor Team as a group of Soldiers to further her Word (in a world where the TV series and manga already existed). Naturally, they could also all be angels, although I like them better as Soldiers(more room for the original personalities). Having them be vessels of Archangels... well, that's amazingly over the top, and I'd love to see if it flies in your campaign. ;^) Sailor Moon: Soldier of Dreams, Songs of Daydreams and Ethereal Healing, tiara Tuxedo Mask: Soldier of the Sword, Song of Blades (Corporeal) Sailor Mercury: Soldier of Lightning (academic aspect), Songs of Ice(Celestial) and Shields(Celestial), also the Elohite of Lightning Attunement Sailor Mars: Soldier of Fire, Songs of Fire and Banishing (Corporeal) (the ofuda give a bonus to the Song of Banishing), True Shape of Flame Sailor Jupiter: Soldier of Lightning (physical aspect), Song of Lightning (Celestial), Jean's Generator Attunement Sailor Venus: Soldier of Creation, Song of Light (Celestial) I didn't do the Outer Scouts -- who, since they are considerably more powerful than the Inners, at least individually, might well be angels themselves. If you want to write them up, have a ball. (Pluto's a good kid -- if she's a Daughter of Kronos, she's long since Renegade or Redeemed. I think it was mentioned one the list by someone that Uranus and Neptune could easily be Elohim, given their propensity to put the mission above their own emotions.)
