Shedim get a way to "ooze" without having to go celestial every time they take over a new host. Lilim get to sense specific Needs, bind knowing people to promises, and something else I'm blanking on. O:> Specific Needs range from obvious ones to non-obvious ones -- the -2 is for an obvious one. Habbalah get some rules for sensing emotions, which I think the main book alludes to, but doesn't go into. This vestage of their Elohite nature helps them believe they're demons. O:> Balseraphs get to build on their lies to extend the duration. Impudites get to build up networks of Essence-sources. Djinn get something related to extending the duration of attunements, which I forget the exact mechanics of at this time. (Note that we tried to cram all the _good_ modifications into GIN; Ofanim get corporeal speed, Cherubim get Nemisis, and some of the IPG stuff found a home. It was hard. That's on the chopping block. The person who put it in there made a case for it in email that was not bourne out in the actual treatment. If I recall correctly (it was years ago), the premise was that Malakim respect honor even if they don't agree with it, and are therefore likely to cut a little "slack" (i.e., not smite immediately) if they sense someone _has_ honor of some kind. (This is why they hate Balseraphs, who change their minds umptyzillion times, and only have honor when it's convenient.) The execution, and especially the Hitler example, did not convey this well. The Liber Castellorum is half "how you make a Tether" and half thumbnails of a "Strong, Unusual, and Generic" Tether for each major Superior. (There's also a handful of adventure seeds.) The Strong and Unusual Tethers are almost always placed specifically in the world. The Generic one is a 'drop anywhere' Tether. You Are Here is full of basically generic corporeal locations, which can be used in just about any location. The ethereal and celestial locations, on the other hand, are places I consider canonical unless someone shows me that they're seriously broken and I agree with the assessment. City-control is basically, well, not an issue that's come up. There's some stuff in Night Music and FotM about who controls what, but otherwise it's up to the GM. - --emccoy@nh.ultranet.com // arcangel@io.com In Nomine Line Editor RPG links; Random name list, Art: http://www.io.com/~arcangel/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 15:44:28 -0400 From: "Josh Moger" Subject: Re: IN> sigh... >At 2:49 AM -0700 4/14/02, Patrick None wrote: >> I'm sure this comes up all the time, but does anyone have a Nephilim >>write - up that isn't Nephilim as Fallen Grigori? > >The In Nomine Nephilim _aren't_ Fallen Grigori. Being operated on. Both are painful. During the operation at least you have the option of anesthesia. My point was, either way it's not the sort of thing your average Demonic personality type would consider without some direct and immediately recognizable benefit. There would have to be proof of it bettering the Demon's condition because the very core of the demonic condition denies faith and prevents trust. The idea presented was "If" we strip our Forces then "maybe" God will love us like he does them. I just do not see it as more than a single insanity style action. Like the weird Haley-Bop group that castrated themselves and then committed suicide. I admitted it was a possibility, but doubted the wide spread phenomenon idea that was mentioned. That's all I ever meant to say in this debate. My personal opinion that Remnanthood is a recoverable state is obviously against the general opinion, but I still say Mira (who is possibly repairable in Final Trumpet) is hoped to be able to give the PCs clues and does have hazy memories of the incidents surrounding her near destruction. Thor is called a "Remnant" in No Deneiro, Ethereal or otherwise, since the Ethereals are supposed to be lesser beings it seems that if they are able to heal over the centuries that Celestials should. Both incidents, in my lil-unloved-opinion, indicate the possibility and I like it as a possibility. I've skirted the edges of Remnanthood in PC backgrounds before in the fashion of the "I used to be somebody" attitude given in the Angelic and Demonic Player guides. A Celestial that has been through so much and lost Forces to various battles and tribulations is very entertaining. I think the idea of a Remnant as a PC pretty much needs to involve his "road to recovery" or the PC will have no progression, no evolution, no development and be thus a fairly uninteresting character. Of course, the ship played "Momento" last night, and if that doesn't describe a Remnant's possible life than I'm not sure what would do it better. An interesting character, but pretty much a one-trick-pony as far as gaming goes. But I as I said, this is my opinion. I like it the way I like the Tattered Universe. I wish I could play it the same way I wish I could play in a "Dark Victory" style campaign. Since I'm having enough trouble weaning the locals from D20 game systems, neither is likely to happen, but it doesn't stop me from liking the idea. If I came across as demanding someone change their opinion or style of gaming due to any of these reasons than I apologize. It was never my intent. I do still feel strongly that a discouragement of the "Lets go be evil" style of play is necessary. I've seen it crop up in games before and I feel it's effect ruined several White Wolf products for me. But it is just an opinion of mind and I do sincerely apologize for coming across so strongly about it. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 18:18:58 -0500 From: "Bergeron, Robert F., DS1(SW)" Subject: RE: IN> Historical At 3:50 PM -0400 4/15/02, Josh Moger wrote: >A thought occurred... and then it triggered a question: > >In the original e-mail that started this wonderful wonderful harvest of >imagination, was the school teacher, Miss Beth, a reference to Archives or >Nightmares? > >No, I'm serious. My throat was harsh for a week or so afterwards, they said it was because I was screamin for five hours straight. No... I don't know what I saw... but I shore don't ever want to have to see it again... The weird thing is... this squaw useta live right here in town. In fact, she useta live with that that nice Miss Blandine over at the Shady Rest Saloon. But even then... she could put the Fear of God in you with one of her stories. Now though... I don't know, but I've heard that any man that sees her near Hades Gulch... well... they don't like to sleep...not for a long, long time afterward.
