Don't ask.) Demon of Lawn Mowers (Belial hasn't given him any distinctions because Glapan seems too controlled.) Demon of Lawn Mowers: Any damage done to living plants with a tool causes no disturbance in the Symphony. Novalis doesn't even know he exists. Rites: Mow a lawn, any size. (1 Essence/day) Cause others to mow their lawn because you mowed yours. (1 Essence for each, any amount) Annoy the neighbors. (1 Essence for mowing in the morning/evening) (+1 for every time you make them think you've stopped, any amount, any time) Vessels & Roles: Slightly overweight, middle aged man, wearing a porkpie hat, black socks, and checkered bermuda shorts (with a Speedo underneath)/4, Role/6, Status/6 (owns Fred Hind, International Tractors & Mowers) Scruffy young man in a blue jumpsuit and baseball cap/2, Role/2, Status/1 (employee of Fred Hind, International Lawn Care) Gear: Little Ricky, the Killer Lawn Mower. Servants: The whole of suburbia & the Word of Flowers (He wishes.) Story: As all suburban boys know, lawn mowers were invented by Hell. Glapan was fascinated by mechanics the way all Calabim are, but he had it worse than most. His repeated attempts to impress Vapula with his "Rube Goldberg" devices only attracted the attention of Kobol, who gave him a distinction for one that selfdestructed, killing the snortings who were part of its consrtuction. Both Lucifer and Belial were surprised when Kronos sponsored Glapan for a word. Kronos had noticed something unusual happening on Earth. Countless little curses seemed to be weaving a tapestry of malediction over the pastoral scene of a new phenomenon known as "the suburbs." The sons of affluent were forced to sweat away fine, sunny days in an ultimately futile task. They were not trying to earn a living in mind numbing factories as the poor did, but suffered and swore satisfy their parents' pursuit of vanity. Glapan had found a winner. Since the early days of the purely mechanical push mower (you can see them in some old cartoons) Glapan has pursued his word at a steady walk. The closest he has ever come to matching his pleasure at receiving a word is when he added an infernal combustion engine to his baby. While he is technically in charge of certain types of farm equipment, Glapan prefers to focus on the sweaty beasts that earned him his word. Vapula still won't accept him, but he doesn't mind. He's got his babies. "Reality is not big enough to contain my imagination. Bothari reminds me of a severely Discordant Malakim in some ways. Besides, it was the only way to prevent a civil war from eventually going nuclear and killing millions. The *only* way. And she did have that almost nervous-breakdown with guilt about it afterwards. I can't think of another Archangel in Heaven who would have. > not to mention Cordelia almost seems more like an Elohite (always calm, but > with tremendous insight into others) than Cherub. True, but the only two Elohite Superiors are Jean and Khalid -- and she's utterly unlike either one. Elohim-ness at the Superior-level either comes across as way too emotionally uninvolved, or else very intense. Neither one is Cordelia-ish. Besides, Novalis *is* Heaven's resident empathy champion, is she not? And not prone to getting overexcited... And in an utterly unrelated digression, I will yet again put in my plug for Drou = Zadkiel. *g* > Jackson's Whole IS Hell, Dendarii are indeed Windies/Warriors, > and Illyan is obviously Dominic (the way Miles/Eli frazzles him is > a dead give away! :)). Actually, the thing that cinched Illyan=Dominic for me was his response to finally being able to catch, capture, charge, and convict Miles on a genuine act of wrongdoing. - -------- "God save me," Illyan said softly, "from another such victory." - -------- I can just imagine Dominic quietly saying that to himself every time the Inquisition successfully sentences another angel to soul-death or Force-stripping or some other form of extreme punishment. As opposed to the Asmodeus response, which would have involved a cold, self-satisfied smile and a private moment of great satisfaction. - -- Chuckg ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 May 2002 21:24:45 -0400 From: "S.D."
