Beats me why. 1. Is there anything in canon about the Great Flood? 2. What happens to a Tether when the Superior it fallls under is destroyed? 3. Can Celestials teach each other Songs, given enough time, or is that a Superior-only power? not dead, merely lurking Cthulhu _____________________________________________ Free email with personality! If I read LC correctly, Celestials can teach each other Songs, though some Superiors frown on this because they want to control which Songs their Servitors have access to. Superiors can instantly impress one or more levels of a Song onto a lesser Celestial. Songmasters may also have this ability (not sure, no books with me). ===== Michael Walton, #US2002023848 "Be aware that most people are operating on a highly condensed version of the 10 Commandments... the part about murder." -- Mark Bricklin __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? What happens to a Tether when the Superior it fallls under is destroyed? The Tether remains as long as it is supported by the events that created it in the first place. Even the Word of Light still has a 4-billion-year-old Tether, sustained by a daily natural event. >3. Can Celestials teach each other Songs, given enough time, or is that a >Superior-only power? Yes. They're just like any other skill that can be obtained with enough practice, presuming the student has the appropriate Forces. Songmasters can teach them faster; Superiors can just do it instantly -- presuming they know the Song in question. The Liber Canticorum has rules for trying to learn them under various conditions. >not dead, >merely lurking > >Cthulhu William ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2002 17:27:44 -0400 From: "Eric Bertish" Subject: Re: IN> Yet more questions > Check the GMG. Conventional wisdom, last I heard, says that the Mediterranean was once a dry basin that one day suffered an "injection event", and this was most likely the Biblical flood. Since Mt. Ararat is supposed to be in Turkey, this fits. - -- Casca "Many people hear voices when no-one is there. Some of them are called mad and are shut up in rooms where they stare at the walls all day. Since Mt. Ararat is > supposed to be in Turkey, > this fits. Er, fraid not. While the Mediterranean did indeed flood after being cut off from the ocean and being a dry basin, the event happened something like 3 million years ago, I think. Well before humans were, well, human. The current popular theory about why lots of people have Great Floods in their mythology is the fact that the _Black_ Sea was cut off from the Mediterranean during the last Ice Age. When the glaciers melted, the Mediterranean overflowed into the Black Sea, rapidly converting it from the large lake it had been to the small sea it is today. I've heard statements that the water probaby rose several feet per day, at the height of the filling, which would certainly be a nasty flood for anyone living in the basin. Of course, other people still favor the idea that the Flood stems from a major flood in the Tigris-Euphrates region, and there are probably other theories, too. I, personally, think that its simply an idea that's easy to come up with. Floods happen practically everywhere, and the way stories work, they tend to blow up in proportion as time goes on. So, the story about your father and the rest of the villages in the area having to flee to higher ground becomes the story of your great-grandfather and his whole village having to build a boat to escape a flood that covered the land, which becomes the story about your distant ancestor building a boat to escape a flood that covered all the earth. The other features, like the animals, come in naturally when people ask questions like "well, if the flood covered the earth, why are there still animals around?" "Well, Johnny, he took a pair of every animal on earth on board with him!" Ob IN content: the Oannes-Vephar battle probably _did_ cause some nasty flooding, though. I mean, when two Superiors, both holding Words controlling water, go at each other, there's going to be _some_ corporeal repercussions. Heavy rain would be the least of it... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? This is a plus, if you want to locate Eden in the now-flooded Persian Basin. (The Tigris and Euphrates are both said to have passed through Eden.)
