If Lilith is > not truly a Superior, then who's manipulating the Forces? As a human, Lilith's dreams can create Ethereals; given her experience and maxed out stats, she could probably design them. Of course, an ethereal couldn't go celestial etc, so possibly Lilith creates herself an ideal lover, (who probably doesn't survive the experience - why waste Forces): Perhaps there's a reason that Lilim are referred to as "Daughters?" Remember, alone of Superiors Lilith has to take months to create her Servitors: hmm, 9 months, maybe? With their powers provided by their Ethereal father, Lilim could just be modified Dead Souls. The differences between a Saint and a Celestial isn't very great, after all. > (Likewise > hearing Superior Invocations, removing dissonance, inflicting Discord, etc > all at once.) Powerful pagan gods can do this sort of thing, and Lilith is supposed to have made numerous deals with the pagan gods; either she's learnt the tricks, become a pagan goddess, or subcontracts. > And let's not forget the Lilim Band resonance. The Shedite can't provide > it, he's not a Lilim. And if Lilith is just a 15-Force human... humans > don't *have* Band resonances. Oh, worked *that* one out long ago: Lilith had the Songs of Sacrifice from day 1 (the Song description says it was handed out to early humans). She's almost certainly been Geased by Dominic's angels, using the Divine Mediation attunement (remember the legend of the angels demanding she return to Eden?). Now, the Ethereal Song of Sacrifice can move any Ethereal Discord (which a Geas is) and if it's overused, inflict a level of Ethereal Discord (such as a Geas) as the performer runs out of Mind Hits...eg a Dream Soldier can "owe a Geas" to Lilith by performing the Song on a Free Lilim, taking enough damage to acquire a level of Ethereal Discord, which he chooses to be the Geas he just borrowed. Now, if Lilith was on half her Mind Hits, she could have performed the Song on herself, giving up her remaining Mind Hits (so taking the Discord) and regaining them (thus remaining conscious), and using the Discord manipulation part of the Song to decide who to owe the Geas to(though this might require an Improvisation - which, on 5 Eth Forces, she can do if she knows the Song at level 5 or 6). Of course, this is clumsy, so she'd create a Variant (which on 5 Ethereal Forces, she can do) to handle this more efficiently..... ....at which point she gets a very nice present from God. If you know one version of the Songs of Sacrifice, you can learn the other two - so if you learn a variant, what do you learn? Well, in Lilith's case, a Corporeal version allowing her to detect Needs and a Celestial version to inflict a Geas. (After all, this is probably happening *before* The Fall - there is a gap of 375 years between Lilith walking out and Lucifer's Rebellion - so it's believable that God would give his creation a "no hard feelings" present.) Once Lilith acquired the powers of a pagan goddess, she develops an attunement which grants humans the powers of the Songs; this is handed out to her Daughters. Alternatively the Shedite develops the Attunement but doesn't want anyone to know that humans *can* have a resonance - bad for the diabolic ego! > >>[...] It can't leave, either, as leaving a host is a resonance >>roll, so it's penalised by the dissonance and any Bound Discord it's picked >>up. > > Leaving a host isn't a resonance roll -- though I would probably make it > have problems if it had Bound Discord. > > Sowwy. Really, look at them. They get dissonant if they fail to serve an active Geas (but so does everyone else), or if their invocation of a Geas fails (but since they're the only ones who *can* invoke Geases - and fail - we don't know what'd happen if someone *else* tried and failed.) So these are part of the mechanics of Geases, we'll assume. Very interesting. This jibes nicely with something I mentioned during a game over the weekend, where I opined that Bright Lilim shouldn't have Choir Attunements: since Lilim stay Lilim even when they redeem, I argued that a choir attunement for them made about as much sense as a Dark Malakite attunement made a Prince. "Higher Heavens High", which started around the end of October 2000. The first post appears in file # 1872 at: http://www.sjgames.com/in-nomine/digests/2000/10/ As near as I can recall, the lineup went something like this: The Good Kids: "Big Mike" -- Senior, former Captain Of the Football Team, best all-around athlete in school by a ridiculous margin. State wrestling champion four times in a row. Has never lost a fight... and he's been in more than a few. Plays fullback. Going into the Marine Corps when he graduates. The dean of students almost had him once on charges of general rowdiness and 'attitude' before being overruled by the principal, and is just waiting for the chance to get him again. "Laurence" (even though everybody calls him "Larry") -- Sophomore, clean-cut ultra-handsome new guy, new Captain Of the Football Team, athletic and scholastic prodigy. Got jumped ahead a grade once. Quarterback. Every girl in school who isn't sighing over Big Mike is sighing over him, except for the named exceptions below. "Dave Stone" -- biggest guy in school, slowest guy in school, only guy who can lift more than Big Mike, held back a grade once. Senior. Five-time winner of the unofficial hot-sauce eating contest -- he can swallow things that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission would declare alerts over. Lost his temper once in a bad way, afraid to lose it again, so he swore a promise never to hit unless he was hit first. Plays center. "Novalis Sunflower Earthchild", aka "Novy" -- Junior, Head Cheerleader, school's resident vegan, pacifist, shoulder-to-cry-on, and little-mother-of-all-living. Has put the school's social worker virtually out of work. Everybody's best friend. (And just for laughs, I had Big Mike absolutely refusing to admit that he really liked her, and Novy sitting and thinking that if only he'd waste less energy being so macho all the time he'd be really nice to be with... *g*) "Blandine" -- Junior, quiet poet and artistic type, aspiring writer, Novy's best friend. Beautiful but sad. (Again, for amusement, we had Laurence so head-over-heels over her that he was tongue-tied in her presence...and her totally not noticing.) "Gabrielle" -- knockout redhead, most beautiful girl in school, most hot-tempered girl in school, tends to rapidly switch from one obsession to the other. Brilliant but erratic. Sometimes gets so intense that her friends are afraid she's going to hurt herself. Some anger management issues. Watched very carefully by the dean of students. Old friend of both Novy and Big Mike, both of whom worry. "Janus" -- hyperkinetic, resident motorhead, holds state record for "most moving violations yet hasn't lost his license" and school record for "most # of times called into the dean's office but not expelled yet". Plays running back. Also school track star. "Marcus Nieman" -- son of extremely rich parents. Young Republican. Wears suits to school. Isn't going to private school because he thinks that HHH is "more broadening". Nice guy, not stuck-up, buys lunch for more than a few underprivileged students. #1 in all Business Honors courses. "Eli Panentheus" -- makes Ferris Bueller look like a drone. Worst class-cutter in school, never does homework, never studies, and still gets straight A's on every test and can churn out college-level essays in 15 minutes from scratch. Has fully-paid scholarships from every college imaginable and a few that aren't, but has passed on all of them plans to spend a few years backpacking around Europe when he graduates. Has dated half the girls in school, and after a date with Eli they all seem to be better kissers. "Zap Kiel" -- friendly girl. *Big* friendly girl... she's almost as tall as Big Mike or Dave Stone. Pretty, but uncoordinated. Made it on the cheerleading squad anyway. Very protective, spends her time in passing periods rescuing smaller kids (which is almost everybody) from harassing Bad Kids. "Georgie McCormick" -- head of the 4-H club. Plans to become a vetinarian. *Loves* animals. Roy -- reporter for the school newspaper. Not mean or cruel in any way, but still always prying his nose into everything he can, trying to find out the truth. Absolutely can *not* keep a secret. If I missed anybody, please let me know. Then there's the faculty: Mr. Yves -- Guidance Counselor and Vice-Principal. Everybody in school loves him, except Big Mike -- he's got his own future all planned out and resented the implication that he needed the help. Wise, friendly, sage advice available upon request. Mr. Dominic -- Dean Of Students, aka Vice-Principal In Charge Of Discipline. No description necessary. *eg* The Principal -- nobody ever sees him, save possibly Mr Yves. His secretary, May Tatron, handles all communication with him... not that anybody ever sees her, either. They just hear her voice on the phone or the P.A. Has only communicated with the staff two or three times in the past four years, and otherwise lets them run the school entirely without his input. I have to leave for work now, so I'll save the rundown on the Bad Kids from Sheol High for later in the day. We got a lot of them, too. - -- Chuckg ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 23:00:57 +0930 From: "G N E Z D A" Subject: IN> Servitors' dress I'm planning on giving the Alaemish a major part in my campaign, although in my campaign they're not working for Hell but, rather, for God and their purpose is to simply go around the world removing any proof of celestial activities on Earth. They're not as paranoid as in Superiors either, think of them more like the typical 'government agent' types who go around covering things up. Anyway, I was thinking about how to portray them and decided to go with the old Humphrey Bogart-style trenchcoat image (the usual black suits is too cliched and obvious, while the Bogart image has a more nostalgic and old-fashioned feel to it, which I feel is appropriate). Anyway, the reason I'm posting this is it got me curious; if we had a campaign of IN running where everything was cliched and set (ie *all* servitors of Laurence look like knights *all* of the time, servitors of Alaemon *always* dress in trenchcoats, etc) how would everyone imagine each of the superiors and their servitors would dress?
