If you ask her real nice, maybe Janet will let you play in hers.* 0;> *Something I'd love to do, if my internet access was more reliable [sigh]. ===== Michael Walton, #US2002023848 Well, if anyone out there is looking for PCs in a PBEM, then please consider my application. I can't seem to find one of any genre that lasts more than three months it seems. DS1 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jul 2002 14:35 +0100 (BST) From: jgd@cix.co.uk (John Dallman) Subject: IN> A little contest is a dangerous thing... Macey, Lilim Princess of Shopping "Dahling! How good to see you again! I could really use a few sisters round here to keep the boys in line. Not that they don't try hard, of course, but their tastes tends to be so /limited/, dahling! Have a seat! That wrap will look divine on you! Latte? Oh, Mammy was quite happy about me IPOing, or at least he was after Mumsy twisted his arms a little. She's so good to us!" In the eighties, the Demon of Shopping was one of Mamon's leading servitors, and a useful ally of Lust and The Media. Putting her up for Princessdom seemed reasonable, until a few weeks after the fact. The problem is that Macey is not mastering her word. It's mastering her, and Lilith is /not/ happy. The basic lesson is that demons shouldn't be allowed to acquire their view of the corporeal world exclusively via the Media. Dissonance Macey's demons must buy something expensive, or persuade a human to buy something expensive, every day. If they get behind on this, they can catch up with a spree, but the dissonance doubles every Friday at midnight, and has to be bought off by buying even more expensive things. Band Attunments Belseraphs of Shopping specialise in selling clothes, jewelry and other personal adornments. They add their Celestial forces to any use of their resonance to persuade someone that the expensive option looks better. Djinn of Shopping sell aspirational leisure - country clubs, time-share holidays, frequent-flyer packages, and so on. They attune themselves to these subjects, and gain a bonus of their Ethereal forces to Fast-Talk and Lying skill in their service. Cabalim of Shopping sell speed - fast cars, powerboats, second-hand jet fighters, and anything else that embodies their lost Offamite heritage. They can add the check digit of a successful Will roll to any skill for operating such machines. The accompanying use of their Cabalite resonance on the machine doesn't take effect for CD hours. Habbalah of Shopping sell self-esteem - the expensive kind that comes from fulfilling your material needs. They add their Celestial forces to any use of their resonance that's meant to help with this. Lilim of Shopping add their Celestial forces to their resonance rolls in any environment where things are for sale. They make perfect department- store personal shoppers. Shedim of Shopping have an unusual power: when perceiving a catalogue, advertisement, TV shopping channel, or anything similar, then with a will roll they can move via the advertisement to a random place (in the same realm) where someone is perceiving the same thing. They've kept QVC in business very nicely, and one of their number has recently gained the Word of Credit Cards. Impudites of Shopping are providers of services, from waiting tables to plumbing to dog-walking. They add their Celestial forces to any attempt to charm someone who's surprised by the size of a bill. Servitor Attunment Infinite Credit Limit: the demon may pay off debts with Essence sacrificed to Macey. 1 essence pays off $100, 2 essence $1000, 3 essence $10,000, and so on. Distinctions Knights of Accessories can gain +2 to charisma for (their willpower) days with a well-chosen outfit, worth at least (total forces)*$200. After that, the clothes are unwearable. Captains of Consumption are always aware of the location, stock, and ownership of all retail establishments within (Ethereal forces) miles. Barons of Fashion can predict the general nature of new fashion trends a month in advance. Relations Allied: Malphas, Mamon (both of whom are Associated with Macey) Associated: Valefor, Andrealphus, Lilith (who is Hostile to Macey) Hostile: Saminga Enemy: No one. Basic Rites * Buy something new, rather then iron the old one. * Spend at least 4 hours making up your mind over a purchase. * Destroy at least $2000 worth of usable second-hand goods. Chance of Invocation: 4 +1 A fashionable accessory +2 A dress worth at least $1000 +3 In the presence of a noted designer +4 Inside a shop so exclusive it has a door list +5 A fashion house's designs for next year +6 In her favoured store, a second before the doors open for the sale. - --- John Dallman jgd@cix.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jul 2002 17:44:31 +0000 From: "Janet Anderson" Subject: IN> Demons and college students Kobal. Really, I remember FAR too many times in college when I went, "I *know* this is stupid/dangerous/irresponsible. Why am I doing it?" And then I went and did it anyway. Sounds very Kobalic to me, especially if you can get folks to complain that higher education is wasted on kids, and they vote this way.... Well, Kobal is definitely the Prince responsible for the Darwin Awards, so some college antics would definitely be inspired by him. But what you're describing is, in my opinion, the result of "peer pressure," which isn't limited to colleges. (I remember it as being worse in college than in high school, but I'm told the opposite is true now.) "Peer pressure" to do stupid or destructive things, to oneself or others, would be a Balseraph thing, and depending on what the action was, and what its results were, might fall under Asmodeus, Andrealphus, or Kronos.
