I like the Humanist idea. It remains to decide what they're like. What if they're "neotenous" angels -- essentially relievers that never fledge? And are thus immune to Dissonance? They can only Fall by Jumping. But that makes them seem really weak. So suppose that, like humans (who are neotenous apes), Humanists are great learners and generalists. They can learn the resonnance of any other Choir, by studying it. (Maybe they can learn Band resonnances, too...) If that makes them seem TOO powerful, say that the learned resonnances cap at 8 or 10. A) Not usually. Most roles are created through Celestial juggling of paper work, and the assumption of existant yet deceased or missing humans. There are some full time Celestials on both sides, whose job it is to create Roles. Yes, a few Relievers or Demonlings would be used for such jobs- but they'd usally be entrusted to more mature and proven servitors (I think- half-remembered from the Servitorium). B) Even if not, the circumstances would be extraordinary in that a reliever was brought up as a human, with no memory of their own Celestial nature. Fledging is usally presented as a concious choice- but what if you have no /concept/ of the Choirs? What would the reliever then fledge as? Would they even fledge? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! But most low level Roles (1-2) are little more than a driver's license and possibly fake social security number. That sort of a Role can easily be done with nothing more than celestial juggling. It's when you start getting into the more complex Roles that have a greater connection to human society that you need someone to have actually lived them. And, IMO, those roles would be reserved for more special cases and missions- they represent a fair number of resources being committed, after all. > Why waste a proven servitor in a job in which > they're required to do > nothing? Except making virtually no noise for years while pretending to be a human- something even highly experienced servitors can have a hard time doing - -while the Enemy would love nothing more than to ruin each and every potential Role... not to mention it takes /years/ of work that must be of consistantly upstanding quality with very little feedback. Not a job most Superiors would give to inexperienced servitors, let alone relievers or demonlings. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Here's a few possible resonances I thought of while at work. A) They can make a Resonance roll before attempting an action, and (if successful) add the CD to their skill temporarily - represent familiarity with Corporeal skills and equipment (including their bodies) to a far greater degree than most other Celestials. B) They can detect disturbance far more easily and/or specifically than other Choirs- much like the Grigori (if they are trully meant to take the place of the Watchers). Possibly they make less as well, even when without or acting out of their Role. C) Their actions /can/ influence the Symphony directly- they can use Essence and act with impunity around nasant Tethers. D) As the first Celestials to trully face and come to terms- albiet false terms -with the idea of natural mortality, they may have the greatest understanding of the human condition, and the increase in empathy that would provide (although this seems filled already by the Elohim...) E) They may be able to inspire others through their example, temporarily improving the abilities of those around them (Angels of Inspiration?) F) They may be able to shield a human /from/ direct Celestial intervention for a brief time (rendering them immune to resonances, attunments, Songs and even direct attacks- indirect attacks and actions like talking would still be fine, however), as an aspect of the humanist idea of a human-centric universe. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? You no longer like Heaven? Oh, you want to FALL? Don't mind my laughter, oh noble Virtue, I've heard it all before. What, your sick of honor? Let me take a look at you- goodness, your simply riddled with dissonance and discord! This won't do at all! Why are you looking at me like that, oh Warrior of God? You'll never Fall in this condition. Your a wreck, impure, without honor. Yes, yes, I KNOW that's how angels Fall. Yes, I KNOW your going against your nature. Yes I- look, just shut your frothing trap for a minute, will you? Look, if you even have ONE stain on your soul, you won't Fall buddy. Yes, I know with you guys dissonance = demonhood. Not for your kind though. Think for a second- what are you? A war machine? Yes, somewhat. Tools for the almighty God? Yeah- almost there. Listen guy, this is what you are- you are a product of absolute anger at something that defied all of creation. Yeah, the Fall. You are filled to the brim with the Light of God. Why do you think your all black? You need to keep that light in, and the Darkness out. The Darkness can cling to your body like it does now, you can riddle yourself with cracks, but that light is never going to leave you. Your's is a special kind of God-Tool. And to Fall, buddy, you can't have one little speck on you. You have to be pure beyond Uriel, honorable beyond Laurence. You can't have a single crack in your armor, one dent on your sword. Are you hearing me? If you want to Fall my friend, then come back to me when you are a shining light in Heaven, with no stain on your soul at ALL. Then we'll talk. Then you can become one of the few, the proud, the mighty, the honorable, the elite of the elite! Hell's Warrior Band, the Honorium. Now get out of my sight you worthless chunk of ebony- the sight of you sickens my kind. - -Eclipsis, Honorium of Dark Humor, former Malakim of Light, first of the Fallen Virtues HONORIUM, THE WARRIORS Yes, even the most pure of angels can Fall. No one ever wanted to think it, and to be frank, Malakim are so unusual, that it was plausible that they would never Fall, no matter how corrupt or weighed with dissonance they became. But you see, therein lies the problem. Through no fault of their own, every demon and angel sees Falling as this equation- Angel + Dissonance = Fall = Demon. It's the angels choice to Fall, and rare are the cases where a pure (dissonance free) angel will choose to Fall of their own choice. For Malakim to Fall, there's a very different path they must walk down. Malakim don't Fall really, they more walk on the path down to the bottom. So they... Descend would be a good word for it. You see, they have to Fall without a single note of dissonance staining their souls. Not one. So you want to fledge as an Honorium- A Malakite's guide to Falling Ok. Step one. The Malakite must be dissatisfied with their life in Heaven. They must not want to work there for some reason, and it must be honorable. Yes, they must stay honorable for this to work. Two, the Malakite must begin to renounce their oaths in the reverse order that they took them, going back one by one. Not breaking them- that would incur dissonance. But renounce them, not want them, until they get down to their base two. Then comes the most crucial decision of all- the Malakite must choose to Descend to Hell. They must renounce the light of God inside of them, and turn their back on Heaven forever. The Malakite, if "successful" will begin to slowly change- their celestial form alters itself until they have totally Fallen, and they have become their new Band, the Honorium. Their oaths become "I will not suffer an evil (in the Honorite's eyes only) to live, if it is my choice" and "I will never allow myself to be captured by the Armies of God". The Honorium can then take any additional Vows (as they call them). In celestial form, the Honorium appears as they did as a Malakim, but instead of being an opaque ebony, they are a translucent obsidian, and in their chests there is a great ball of bloody red fire which lights them up. The ball is said to be their selfish honor. Their eyes glow with pure hatred, their hair hangs long and messily over their cold faces. Their feathers fall from their wings, and the bone network is filled with feathers of bloody fire, which comes from the ball of flame inside of them, extending out into their backs into their wings. They are large and very muscular, and radiate an aura of cold terror. The resonance of the Honorium is as it was before they Fell- they can see the honor of anyone they resonate. But... instead of it being to the targets own standards, it will be by the Honorite's own (often impossibly) high standards of Honor. They do not suffer Trauma as per their heavenly counterparts. They are often incredibly powerful- it takes a lot to become so pure and to then Fall with no stain on the soul. No being in Hell can create the Honorium yet- it's nearly impossible, as no one yet understands the transformation process that angels went through in the Fall. The first Honorium was Eclipsa, a Malakim (former Elohite) who served the Word of Light before the Fall and even guarded one of Lucifer's more powerful and secret Tethers. He transformed at the Fall, but didn't want to battle Lucifer. He still felt strongly connected to his master, and in a moment of indecision, he flew to the Tether and hid. Years passed. Eclipsa went over all he saw over and over again. He stayed honorable to himself, but grew to dislike Heaven, thinking they were too rash with Lucifer. Eventually, he got rid of all his oaths but the first two. He loved his honor still, and wished he could join Hell and help Lucifer. Well... one day, Kobal was toddling along, checking on old Tethers for Lucifer, when he found the half-mad, but still pure Malakim. This was rare. Very rare. Kobal talked to the Malakite, and... well, several weeks later, he did it. He made the Malakim Fall. Kobal didn't stop laughing for a week, no, a MONTH. Lucifer just smiled on and on and on. He served Kobal, and now he hunts more of his kind, hoping that they are pure enough to become the greatest Band ever... Now, rumors surface. A new kind of demon has been seen here and there. He loves to hunt after Malakim, and sometimes, the Malakim don't come back. And more of those kinds of demons arise. They are honorable, powerful, and make the Malakim very afraid, as they seem to -keep coming back- like they didn't suffer from Trauma... Dominic is terrified. He doesn't know the exact Truth yet, but he can almost guess, and it curdles his blood. Worse, some say LAURENCE has found out, and some wonder if it could drive him to madness- the mighty Paladins of Heaven can Fall? And worse, they can only do it as pure, totally willing subjects?! Fear the honorable, for those with wings of bloody fire ride on the night winds, wielding black swords and a loyalty to Hell that makes Demons of the Game weep. Fear them, for even the Light of God can leave. Oh yes, angels have free will. This Band is testament enough to that question. (I have yet to make the resonance for Words they can serve, and yeah, I know the resonance is kinda lame- but it was all I could think of that seemed to truly fit, much like the Lilim's resonance changing only a little. I'm half done with a Fallen Laurence, DP of the Blade or Hunt, in a thoroughly Dark setting, where he became obsessed with his Fallen brethren, and went down ut of madness.) _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Jul 2002 14:53:16 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Walton Subject: Re: IN> Mary, Reliever of Creation. Choir Attunements Seraphim of Plastic may with a success Perception roll identify the specific type of plastic they encounter. They are also quite skilled at noticing "fakers," anyone pretending to be something they aren't. This is passive and automatically successful. The Angel (non-seraphim included) automatically gains the result of the Seraphim Resonance CD1 (eg "that person isn't really a [insert social role here]"). Cherubim of Plastic may attune to any plastic items automatically; CD = to their Corporeal Forces. Additionally, they are aware of all plastic around them within a number of yards = to their Corporeal Forces. Ofanim of Plastic are masters of escape, gaining a bonus to rolls to escape from bounds equal to their Celestial forces. Elohim of Plastic are exceptionally able to perceive changes in emotional states, receiving a /passive/ resonance roll to detect such changes - it succeeds automatically at CD2. They also receive a bonus to their Detect Lies skill = to their Celestial forces. Malakim of Plastic can transform their limbs into plastic of any shape, and then harden it. The transformation takes three combat rounds (45 sec.) and requires a successful Will roll, Power +CD of the Will roll. This effect may endure up to Ethereal Forces minutes. Eel's Malakim usually take vows that encourage them to be more open ended, rather than having fewer options available to them. Kyriotates of Plastic may transform themselves into a plastic object, either in a current host or manifesting a vessel (as per Kyrios of Stone, only plastic). Cost for transformation of a current host/vessel costs essence as per the Corporeal Song of Form. The plastic object may move as it joints allow (doll - yes, table - no), at easily as the plastic can bend. Duration is until sunset. Mercurians of Plastic are socially plastic, gaining a bonus to all social skills and Charisma (if desired) when needed. With a successful Perception roll, they receive a bonus to a social skill equal to the CD. Grigori of Plastic don't exist. (So far as we know.) Servitor Attunements Plasticise For the cost of 2 essence, the servitor's body becomes incredibly stretchy for Corporeal forces combat rounds (or minutes, if not in combat). This grants them several advantages. They have a maximum reach with melee weapons = to their Strength in yards. They receive a bonus to Dodge rolls = to their Perception, and they can do other neat tricks such as peek around corners, try to pick locks with their fingertips and slip under doors. Note that this ability does not permit them to shape their limbs into hammers or the like, that's covered under the Malakim attunement. Tao The servitor gains +3 to any skills or songs they haven't used for the past 3 days, additionally they gain level 1 in -all- Skills they don't already possess(barring obscure Knowledge skills, such as "Sentient Panda lore"). When buying a new skill, the servitor must still pay for the first level. Distinctions Servant of Plastic may speak to plastic, which may provide any information that it might have about who has touched or manipulated it - interestingly enough, such information is limited to the personality of the person who touched or manipulated it, and of course, how the plastic was touched or manipulated. The angel must speak in a clear and firm voice and must be able to touch the plastic. Friend of Plastic gains the Plasticise attunement (if not already possessed) and may use it at zero essence cost. Mastic of Plastic is able to Telepathically communicate with plastic. Additionally, they may imbue plastic with a sort of semi-life, granting it the ability to move and speak (if plausible), for the cost of 1 essence per pound of plastic. This effect lasts a number of minites = to the servitor's Celestial forces. Thanks Sirea! you gave me the kick i needed to finish my own fallen malakim... initial ideas came in part from Cassandra, and a non-list friend. Compare and contrast if you will: (This is Ultra-heretical-Mega-Uber-Non-Canon BTW... but you knew that didnt you :) Everyone knows malakim CANT fall. even when pushed and pushed and pushed. Uriels word protects them. But what if it didn't? Archons The Masters, The Lords Before the purity crusade, Malakim were the ultimate paragons of virtue. They could not fall, and were implacable enemies of hell. Then uriel overstepped his authority and was recalled to the higher heavens by God. Within two decades, the first Malakite fell. Gideon, one of the Tsayadim, lost his faith in god, and in uriel, and found his new life as an outcast clashed with his oaths. To the shock of his compatriots, he fell. What he became was not discovered until several years afterwards. A demon, of unknown origin, calling himself Gideon, incited a crowd of humans to destroy a Tether of Divine Fire. When the seneshal of the tether confronted the demon in celestial form, she got a terrifying shock. What she faced was _almost_ a malakite in appearence. Almost. She barely escaped to report what she had seen. Appearence and Attitude Corporeally, Archons favour regal, and powerful vessels, almost always with high levels of charisma. They carry themselves with an air of almost tangible superiority, as befits their self image as masters of lesser beings (which is everything else, bar Demon Princes). Their arrogance surmounts even the extremes to which balseraphs take their egos. Celestially, they havent changed much. rather than being shadowy winged forms, they are now absences of light, solid black rents in the firmament of the celestial. And they constantly drip thick red blood. The chains are still there, of course, but now they are barbed and twisted. Whereas malakim are content to be the tools of the divine, Archons have rebelled against servitude, and seek to master others. They are leaders par excellance, and can sway the weak willed to their cause with consumate ease. This is due to their twisted resonance. Resonance and dissonance Like malakim, archons have a personal code of honour enshrined in four oaths The first one is fixed for all archons. "I shall remain loyal to lucifer and the princes of hell" the remaining three are of the Archons choice. Going against these oaths causes dissonance. The resonance of an Archon is twofold: Firstly, with a will Roll, they may force a person to accept the archon's code of honour as their own for CD hours. It may be resisted by a will roll, and if resisted succesfully with a CD 6, the archon gains dissonance. Multiple targets can be swayed at the cost of 1 essence per TotForces people (so a 9 force Archon can affect 18 people for 2 essence). The fixed oath (loyal to lucifer and hell) is not imposed. Secondly, Although an Archon is bound by a personal code of honour, they are selfish beings quite capable of altering their code of honour to suit their current whims. With a will roll, they may change one of their 3 personal oaths to a new one. on a failure, that oath becomes fixed for CD days, and the Archon gains dissonance on a CD6. They may not change oaths more than CelForces times per day, and must make a roll for each oath they wish to change. It is often possible that through failures, an Archon may end up with conflicting oaths, and such Archons are recalled to hell and 'debriefed' Since hell has not yet figured out a way to create these creatures (though lucifer probably knows, and it is widely known that vapula wants to disect one), they are held in strong regard. so far only a few princes have Archon servitors. Asmodeus has 3, Ba'al 2, Valefor 1 (stolen him from Malphas), kronos has at least 3, but quite probably more. Archons and Trauma for some reason, upon falling an archon loses it's resistance to trauma to some extent. Add their celestial forces to rolls to recover from trauma. The making of an Archon (or how to do the impossible) Malakim still cannot fall. At least, not while they have faith in god and in Uriel's Word. A malakite who loses his faith in these two cornerstones of his existence is well on the way to Archonhood. but even so, with the strict policing malakim do amongst themselves, it is difficult to build up the dissonance required. Only 3 of the 9 known Archons actually fell by chance. The others, terrified by what they felt themselves becoming, and more terrified of what a heaven they no longer believed in would do to them, jumped. Attunements Archon of The Game Archons of the game get the standard 12 points for a role, but rather than being able to spot other archons, they gain the ability to tell if a malakite's faith is wavering to the point where he might become one of them. Asmodeus sends them into angelic territory to talent scout for hell. Archon of The War The resonance of an Archon of war will continue to affect its victims for as long as the Archon retains the same oaths, and actually leads his newly converted followers in whatever task he plans to set them too. Once he is no longer leading them, the effects revert to what remains of the CD or ends, if that time has run out. Ba'al uses them to stir rebellions, lead vigilantes, initiate coups, but expects them to lead by example rather than from behind. Archon of Factions Archons of factions always take and create broadly interpretable oaths, and when affecting a group, each person in that group will interpret the oaths differently, skewed by their own prejudices. Coupled with the polarise attunement, Lords of Factions cause schisms in groups they are assigned to, whether religious cults, skinhead gangs, or corporate boards. Archon of Theft When using their resonance, Archons of theft impose an additional belief on their victims: The belief that no-one but yourself (and the archon) deserves to own property. A Lord of theft can turn a one-demon crime spree into citywide looting with a few choice resonance uses. Archon of Fate Kronos' Lords cannot affect multiple targets with their resonance, but may either reduce the subjects will by their Cel Forces, or multiply the duration by Cel Forces. kronos uses them to sway particular individuals who can lead others to their fate. - -FallenSeraph "tausend graue Mäuse mit blauen Mäusehäusern" http://www.geocities.com/archangel_nine ICQ: 110193631 _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of in_nomine-digest V1 #2707 ********************************
