Heck, if humans have the line blurred often, why do angels even need to come close? Demons do it a lot I imagine, to suit their purposes, but honestly, when it comes to angels, I already have a hard time seeing them as giant wheels of fire or clouds of light, much less trying to give them a definitive gender. According to my idea (which was meant as a comic idea) Tezcatlipoca answered his prayers and, feeling some degree of remorse for what the Aztec deities had done (ie after Quetzalcoatl was kicked out and the others went sacrifice-mad) Tez tried to make amends. Imbuing a little of his soul into the priest, he made him immortal and the priest became a protector for the Aztecs, and then later for all humanity (ie a superhero). The priest changed form to appear more like Tez and some of his personality became more cat-like. In IN canon, perhaps it was that someone (perhaps Tez, or the priest inadvertantly) used one of the songs of Life to merge the soul of a nearby cherubim of Jordi with the priest. Most maps do not show it; it is enchanted to appear as just another patch of desert, albeit one almost untouched by human hands: the feet of travellers naturally stray away from this land without being aware that they are deviating from their course. Nonetheless, the jungle stands, a last vestige of the great tropical forests that, in antiquity, covered the vast deserts of Arabia. Many of those who know of it call it the Garden of Eden, although this is not so: the true Garden lies to the east, beyond the rising sun. This jungle, in fact, has no name, and little significance - beyond the fact that it is an enchanted jungle in the middle of thousands upon thousands of square miles of desert - but to a single person. There was a strange quiet in the jungle as this single person entered it of her own will. Many tropical animals inhabit the trees, vines, and undergrowth that populate this thatch of life, but all were silent as she approached a single grove in the center of the greater growth, watching the woman whose name they did not know enter their perennial sanctuary. Slowly she bowed before the grove, genuflecting and muttering in a tongue long forgotten to man, and stayed this way for minutes upon end. Then, just as slowly, she rose, and walked forward as the tightly-packed trees bowed in return and parted before her. An observer would have noted that what appeared to be an unusually tight cluster of trees was actually a ring surrounding a clearing, before the trees once again straightened and blocked the woman and the clearing from view once more. At the center of the clearing, which was twice the woman's height across, there stood a pile of small stones, each the size of an apple, and it was to this pile that she walked, her movements and the tone in her voice - for she was still, in a low, murmuring voice, chanting in that lost language - for a rare moment reverent and humble. As she approached she took another stone from her pocket and lay it on the pile, which almost rose to her own height. If an observer knew the tongue in which she spoke, her voice would still not have carried to his ears: but if, by chance, one could step close enough to hear without allowing the woman to notice, then one would hear her chanting subside, to be replaced by speech in the same intonation, pitch, volume, and language. "O my aunt," she murmured, "whose blood I do not share but whose memory I honor, bless me and protect me, shine upon me and love me as you have these years, that I might make your name great and lead all the world to remember you and your life." If an observer were paying attention, he might have noticed a trembling in the stones as they acknowledged the woman's prayer. >From another pocket the woman brought a rose, black as they only can grow them in India, and placed it gently upon the cairn before her. She bowed again, and kissed the rock at the base of the pile. Her chanting began anew before she rose again, and when she turned to leave the trees parted without even a beseeching. The animals began their chatter once more as the woman walked from the jungle, her bare feet unhurt by the blazing desert sands beneath them, and she smiled as she felt the grains between her toes. Her aunt, who had not lived to see her name remembered, was still watching her, still blessing her with that aunt's face and name. She was glad, she thought: for neither would yet betray another trust, even though the first had lost her place forever as the mother of men, and the second still bore the mark that had cast her forever to dwell with the people of the Land of Nod. She tossed her hair, then, the mark that an angel laid so long ago covered by green tresses, and walked through the dunes, fearing no evil. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Jul 2002 17:20:52 +0000 From: "Sirea Theyal" Subject: RE: IN> Matchmaking for Dominic > >Old flames never die out... > >Some seething repressed emotions in there just waiting to explode. > >New reason for that wounded earth plot thingie... What if he's redeemed by a full on Reliever attack...) *shudders* whoa... the very image of that is just... it's too cute to even stomach. All of Hell redeemed by the Archangel of Cute and her legion of hugging relievers? _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Jul 2002 13:07:26 -0500 From: "Prodigal" Subject: Re: IN> Visit to a Tomb From: "Christopher Anthony" > > She tossed her hair, then, the mark that an angel laid so long ago > covered by green tresses, and walked through the dunes, fearing no > evil. Very nice. We don't often see anything dealing with Adam's second wife on the list, and this had to be one of the better pieces about her yet. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Jul 2002 14:50:55 -0400 From: "Bergeron, Robert F., DS1(SW)" Subject: RE: IN> Weird Superior Challenge: Novalis, Demon Princess of Lust I think that would be rather common for a +6 modifier. China is having what can only be called an "incest explosion" due to holding the practice of killing female babies since Mao took over. There just are not enough women, especially in the agricultural provinces. Story was covered in either "Time" or "Newsweek" about two months back. And even without China's current dilemma, incest children are going to be a lot more common than I would think a +6 modifier should have. Hell, Heaven, the Light and the Dark, the Wyld and Gods are all major movers and shakers ... and all wish to fight for the survival of creation against creatures from beyond that seek to destroy it. Since I started reading the tome that is Nobilis, I've been thinking about playing in the In Nomine world using the Nobilis rules, since that would enable the PCs to be more like the powerful creatures I've envisioned Angels and Demons to actually be. I might even run and In Nomine: Nobilis online pbem for dedicated players (a possible one to two-year commitment). email me (addy below) off list if you're interested in hearing more about it. It would be more discussion of Nobilis than In Nomine, so it wouldn't be appropriate for the IN-list thnx - -Perry perrylloyd@hotmail.com pl312993@oak.cats.ohiou.edu http://www.geocities.com/perrylloyd/ "And that's the hardest thing for a human being to do - be wrong. IIRC, it's Quetzalcoatl who was the one who wanted sacrifices of something besides hearts? I need to go find my GURPS Aztec book, though -- I've only scanned the web a bit. I can see it now though... relievers floating down into Hell, hugging left and right, demons redeeming spontaneously, Princes running through the streets, screaming as an angel hugs them and they explode into a shower of light! Oh the humanity...
