But like others, I dislike how he's basically little more then a mad foil for Gabriel, the Archangel of Divine Fire. I wanted to give him a little more purpose in Hell. So I got to thinking about what job Belial could reasonably do in Hell, and this is what I came up with. Hope you like it... Belial Calabite Prince of Fire Alternate Version "The world is fuel, and must be consumed by the flames. So that not but Ash remain in Lucifer's name" There is a reason Hell is associated with flames: Belial is that reason. All the Princes originally named by Lucifer hold a position of Importance in the First Balseraph's court: Asmodeus is Lucifer's spymaster, Baal his general, Kronos his grand vizir, and Kobal his jester. Thus, one might wonder: What is Belial's purpose in Hell? The answer is simple: Belial is Lucifer's personal Hit Man. Well, the actual term in Demonic is hard to translate, as it combines "Assassin", "Executionner", "Tormentor", "Terrorizer" and "Sadist", all in one. Simply put, Belial is the guy who does Lucifer's "Dirty Work" for him. Whenever Lucifer wants someone dead, whenever he wants a Tether destroyed, whenever he wants someone to suffer, Infernal Fire is assigned that task, and one of Belial's Servitors gleefully goes out to torture, destroy and kill in the name of Hell. This direction in life is a result of Belial's obsession with claiming the Word of Fire all for himself, an obsession which he held since his days in Heaven, when he sided with Lucifer for the promise of the Word of Fire. Lucifer kept his promise as best he could, and in return, Belial has kept his loyalty to Lucifer, becoming the First Balseraph's personal scourge. He has modeled himself and his Word to become a dark, twisted mockery of everything Gabriel stands for: Where she is Energy, he is Entropy. Where she is a light of hope, He is a flame of despair. Where she delivers God's bright messages, he delivers Lucifer's dark warnings. Where she punishes the Cruel, he harms all with equal cruelty. Every now and then, Lucifer requires Belial himself to go out and kill for Hell. Oannes, the Archangel of Water's death, was one such task. After Vephar was killed, Lucifer decided to send a warning to Heaven about the price of killing a Prince, and had Belial murder the Archangel. It was about this time that Gabriel's rage aimed at Belial began grating at her. Belial has, thus far, avoided direct confrontation with the Ofanite Archangel, and has executed a War of Nerves against her, to drive her insane enough to send her running at him madly... At which point Belial will be waiting for her with everything he has to throw at her, before taking out the physically, mentally and spiritually weakened Gabriel. It matters little to Belial how long it takes him to destroy her... A Slow Burn is just as good as a Quick Explosion, to him. Dissonance: Demons of Fire, once sent on an assignment, can not afford to fail. They gain a note of Dissonance everytime an attempt at destroying a target fails. Multiple failures will accumulate Dissonance, which encourages the Demons to NOT fail. In fact, dissonnance and discord ridden Fire Demons are often made targets themselves, as object lessons. Band Attunements: Balseraph: Balseraph of Fire specialize in though patsies and other third parties. They gain an Ethereal Force bonus at using their Resonnance to convince a subject to kill or destroy through Fire. Djinn: Djinn of Fire can freely harm their subjects of attunement, but only if they use heat and fire. Using any means other then Fire causes Band Dissonance, however. They tend to take their times, observing their targets for months at a time, studying their every detail before striking with vicious precision. Calabim: Unchanged from Canon. Habbalah: Rather then convince people they're on Fire, Punishers of Fire get a Bonus equal to their Celestial Forces to impose the burning passion of Fury on their targets. They often use their Resonnance to cause a living target to engage in self-destructive behavior. Lilim: Unchanged from Canon. Lilim of Belial, when not on specific assignments themselves, tend to serve as Fixers, getting other Fire Demons what they need, when they need it, in exchange for the usual favors. Shedim: Unchanged from Canon. Impudites: Unchanged from Canon. They're always on the lookout for arsonists to recruit for Belial. And he's right about the hospitality; "sodomy" is only connected to homosexuality in the same tenuous manner as "onanism" is connected to masturbation. I still need a few things, but I'll wait to see if this is up to snuff. Thanks everyone ^_^ ) Eklizeal, Grigori Archangel of the Rain "The World will be healed by soft rains..." *Dissonance* Servitors of the Rain cannot act with undue haste or anger, intentionally provoke someone into anger, or do not try to calm someone who is unreasonably angry, if there is something the angel can do about it. The angel will be fine if they made someone angry because that person didn't like what they were doing, but the angel would be slapped if they were acting to directly anger the person. *Choir Attunements* Seraphim: For 1 essence, while standing in a natural storm, these Seraphim can instantly know if there are any other celestials that are not servitors of the Rain standing out in the storm. Their range extends for corporeal forces miles, and if this is more than the range of the storm, then in caps there. Cherubim: Whomever these Cherubs attune to will become calm and relaxed, no matter how mad they may normally get; they are immune to feeling anger. The attuned can add the Cherub's ethereal forces to their will roll to resist any Discord relating to anger. Ofanim: As Eklizeal often implements many careful plans that may require a long wait, her Wheels do not take dissonance from inaction if specifically ordered to wait by Eklizeal, one of her Masters, or whoever is the official leader on a official mission. They also always know the exact distance and direction to the nearest natural rainstorm. Elohim: These Elohim will know automatically what will calm down an angry person- note though, that sometimes this will be impossible to do for the person, especially if they are a demon or angel. Malakim : For 3 essence, these Malakim can make the next melee attack that hits do soul damage, regardless of whether the target is in celestial form or not, but will be unable to perform the final hit to remove a force. Bright Lilim: Bright Lilim of the Rain can make any "negative" Need disappear if they get the target to stay out in the rain for one hour per level of Need while talking to the Lilim about it. The target must have some desire to not want the Need anymore though. Negative is defined here as any Need that could be extensively harmful to the subject, or lead them to their Fate. Kyriotates: Dominations of the Rain have the ability to possess _anything_ that has directly been in a natural rainstorm for (celestial forces) minutes. Mercurian: Eklizeal's Mercurian's can sense any Servitor of Belial or Oannes on the spot with a perception roll, and from then on their vessel will glow with either a red (Belial), or blue (Oannes) light. Grigori: Grigori of the Rain may turn almost invisible while in a natural rainstorm. Others must make a Perception roll minus the Grigori's Ethereal Forces (in addition to any vision penalty for the rain, as set by the GM) to see him, and any rolls to attack the angel are reduced by the same penalty. This ability costs 1 Essence and lasts for the angels Ethereal Forces times ten minutes; it stops working if he leaves the rain, but will resume if he reenters the rain again at no additional Essence cost. *Servitor Attunements* Walk in the Rain: With this attunement, the angel can sense the rough distance and direction of the closest natural rainstorm, and for 1 essence, can attune themselves to the storm, being able to track where it will go, how long it will last, and where it currently is. When the storm dissipates, the attunement ends. This attunement is given to all Servitors of the Rain once they are able to prove their worth to Eklizeal as part of her organization. Storm Blade: For one essence, the angel can make the rain damage one target, doing 1 hit per round, lasting for (angels forces) rounds. When used, this makes the rain into small impaling shards, and is intensely painful for anyone who is affected by it. If the target gets out of the rain, they will no longer be affected. Water of Life: Can cast the corporeal Song of Healing for free when in a natural rainstorm. Show me Heaven: For 4 essence, the angel can see all Tethers that are out in a natural rainstorm, and can tell automatically if they are divine or infernal. With a perception check, the Tether will become tinted a certain color that will correspond to it's Word, such as reddish-pink for Lust, sickly gray for Technology, green for Flowers, etc. The Rainbow's End: The angel who uses this attunement will make a rainbow appear at the end of a natural rainstorm. What makes this special however, is that the angel can attach a "note" to the rainbow, much like when someone sends essence with a note to someone in Limbo. If a servitor of the Rain sees the rainbow, they will automatically get the message along with the angels "signature". The message can be things like "mission complete" or "need help!" or "Belial servitors coming/leaving", nothing too complicated can be put in the message. For 1 essence, the message can be made "viewable" by anyone else the angel chooses. The Flood: An angel with this attunement can, during a rainstorm, increase or reduce the level of flooding in an area. The water volume can be altered by a factor up to (Celestial Forces) for an Essence cost equal to twice the factor used. (e.g., an angel with 3 Cel. Forces can increase the water volume of a flood by 2 or 3 times, which would cost 4 or 6 Essence, respectively). The area effected is about the size of a large neighborhood, but can be increased to the entire area under the rainstorm by doubling the Essence used. Rumors of a variant of this attunement responsible for the parting of the Red Sea are unconfirmed... *Distinctions* Vassal of Heavenly Tears: This distinction allows an angel to clean the dissonance from a willing and repentant celestial, be they angel or demon. First, the angel and the repentant must be outside in a natural rainstorm. Next, the repentant MUST be sorry for the act that gave them the dissonance, if they are not sorry, it will not work. If both requirements are met, then the repentant may begin to confess to the angel why they gained the dissonance, and why they are sorry. One point of dissonance may be removed per hour, and the repentant will shed it by crying it out with dark colored tears. Friend of the Golden Sky: Everywhere the angel goes, people will become calm and serene, and very resistant to negative and angry thoughts. Everyone within sight of the angel is at a +6 to all roles to resist feelings of anger or hatred. Master of the Silent Rains: Eklizeal's Masters can summon a rainstorm at will once a day lasting for (total Forces x20 minutes), and it will be counted as being natural rain for all other attunements. Also, for 4 essence, they can make anyone who is not Symphonically Aware to totally stop and listen to the rain until the storm ends, and they will not notice anything that happens around them, allowing the angel to go unnoticed. *Other Distinctions* Maiden of the Waters: This is a distinction granted to all the orphans of Oannes who wish to get revenge on Belial. They gain several conventional powers- one, they can spot the Servitors of Belial on sight. Two, they can summon Eklizeal at anytime, which is usually reserved for when the Maidens encounter high ranking Servitors of Fire, or Belial himself. Three, they are assigned to track down the lost Forces of Oannes, in the hope of being able to resurrect it one day. The Maiden's of the Waters are a nasty bunch, and rank up there with the Tsyadim for their intensely focused hatred of a group. If Belial knew these angels existed, he might mobilize a force immediately to destroy them, seeing as how many of the members used to be high ranking members of Oannes, with Master level distinctions and all former attunements intact... *Relations* Allied: No one Associated: Eli Likes: No one Neutral: Everyone else Dislikes: Gabriel Hostile: Dominic Enemy: No one Cold Utter Hatred: Belial *Rites* - -Stand in a (natural) rainstorm for it's entire length (minimum 5 minutes) - -Redeem a demon (worth 3 essence) - -Stop an angel from Falling (worth 2 essence) - -Pacify someone who was about to do something dangerous out of anger *Chance of Invocation* 1 (+1 if in a rainstorm of any kind) *Invocation Modifier* +1- Camia Bay (where she became a Superior) +2- One of Belial's servitors +3- A Redeemable demon or near-Fallen (but repenting) angel +4- One of Oannes orphans +5- One of Oannes Forces +6- Belial _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Jul 2002 23:27:28 -0400 From: "Eric Bertish" Subject: Re: IN> New Choir (WARNING!) Actually, just to clear up a misconception, "rapine" means violent theft or plunder. Except in the metaphorical sense, the word has no ties to sex. The stereotypical eighteenth-century pirate ship might have been an excellent roving Tether to Genubath, but even the site of a thousand forcible sex acts wouldn't necessarily tie to the word. Actualy Sodom and Gamorra were known for their inhospitality. The term "sodomy" means inhospitality. If I recall correctly, the nature of that inhospitality in the example shown by the bible was sexual in nature. More recent connotations affiliate sodomy with homosexuality. Who, come to think of it, hasn't been seen around Heaven recently. *g* - -- Chuckg _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jul 2002 11:58:56 -0400 (EDT) From: "Rev. One of the best pieces of evidence to support this is the existence of a certain type of relic using a certain lost Song that only servitors of the Waters and Oceans are known to use. Called Depth Charges, these relics vary in size depending on their level, from the size of an apple to the size of a hundred-gallon barrel, although their appearance is uniform: a wooden barrel with steel banding and a cork plug in the side. Their function is simple: feed the barrel with Essence, uncork the hole in the side, and let the water flow... and flow... and flow... A Depth Charge will, in fact, generate a number of cubic yards of sea water equal to its level as a relic multiplied by the amount of Essence used to power it (and the more powerful versions function as reliquaries as well, so this volume can quickly get unreasonable). The water is expelled through the hole in the side at the rate of one cubic yard per round until its volume has been exhausted. After the water has been expended, the cork must be replaced, and the barrel allowed to rest for 24 hours, before it can be used again. (Once the barrel is activated, it cannot be stopped until it has expelled its full volume of water.) As an example, Davy the Demon has decided to drown his angel charges, both of whom are 6 feet tall, in a large, sealed closet measuring 8' tall by 6' wide by 10' long. He has a level 6 Depth Charge (with a level 3 reliquary built in), and spends 7 of his 9 Essence to power the Song (leaving 2 so that he can take celestial form and leave!). Once he's removed the cork, the relic starts producing the first of its 60 cubic yards of water (6 (level) * 10 (Essence spent) = 60). That's 1,420 cubic feet of water - which easily fills the (roughly) 480 cubic feet of space in the closet, and then goes on to either burst the closet (if it's not sturdy enough to hold three times its volume in water) or start increasing significantly in pressure. (If Davy were any good at math, he'd have realized that he didn't need to spend any Essence at all - the 18 cubic yards that the relic would have generated on its own would have been just enough to fill the entire room - but one supposes that he wanted to be really, really sure.) As a final note, the water level in the room would be rising at the rate of about five to six inches per round: the angels would have twelve or thirteen rounds to figure out what to do before they had to start holding their breath. (Ooo, "The Morning Star, the best divine warrior, came out to confront the Sun. They battled long and furiously untill finally Tonatiuh [the Sun] struck down his opponent, who fell into the underworld..." A hint that it was orginally/is a Divine Religion, by IN standards? O:D ) Lessee... "Chief of all the gods, Tezcatlipoca afflicted the land with drought and famine." Divine sacrifice of a "year-king" -- in this case, an impersonator. Also described as "...dark, evil and unknowable." And "also the god of fate and confessions" with his prophetic/all-seeing mirror. "[G]od of night and tricks, and an evil sorcerer." Major color was black. But also considered the same (?) as Quetzalcoatl, god of learning, when wearing white; Xipe Totec, god of spring and renewals, when in red; and Huitzilopochtli, Aztec patron god, when in blue. Hm. From the EPG stuff, this suggests some interestingly mixed assumption combats? (Or perhaps some spirit, Kyriotate-like, split itself into parts which were the same and yet independant?) Quetzacoatl, on the other hand, had "transformations" into "Ehecatl, god of wind and patron of thieves and sorcerers" (!!!) and Ce Acatl (One Reed), the Morning Star (!!!!!!!!). And then weve got Xochiquetzal, Precious Flower, and... This be a keen book. This may be because of one of his "transformations," as "Yaotl, the enemy." General rabble-rouser (rather Baalite, really!).
