A Fatal Flaw is typically very specific - vampires, for example, might have Fatal Flaw (getting a wooden stake pounded through my heart) - but once the character encounters it, he suffers immediate corporeal death. This is by all means a powerful disadvantage, although it cannot deal soul death; still, it has no level, instead being worth a straight 10 points. GMs should be cautious in inflicting this disadvantage or allowing a character to take it at creation: too common a vulnerability will leave celestials going through identities like Fletch, while too rare a vulnerability will essentially be granting the character 10 extra character points for free. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Jul 2002 16:48:59 -0400 From: "S.D." So maybe I have a Broadsword skill that's five levels below my opponent's. If I get the Mercurian in the party to wrap him up in duct tape first, I'm going to have a good chance. Which is to say, flavor counts for a lot in this game, but when it comes down to it, the stats are there to back up the flavor *for a reason*. If there's not an easy way to describe the effect without using statistics, I'll use statistics as my prerogative as author. > My point is, the information is almost valueless, unless: > > 4.) Michael is well-known for his propensity for winning, and his servitors are well-known for using every advantage they have in a fight. If one of those advantages is taking a direct knowledge of the enemy's strengths and weaknesses as compared to yours, thereby allowing the servitor of War to manipulate the fight to play to his own strengths, then so be it. YMMV, of course. The Rubber Eraser is a simple artifact: it erases anything that has been written in any form. Drawings, paintings, et cetera: these are fine, safe from the depredations of Secrets. Anything from the note Susie passed to Jenny in third-period English to a top-quality laser-printed document, however, can be erased in an instant by this dire relic. Interestingly, this includes new meanings for "writing" as well: computer storage is equally susceptible to the Rubber Eraser. Although it's not known for sure, it's rumored that the Rubber Eraser could even affect texts in Yves's Great Library. The Rubber Eraser is perhaps best used as a MacGuffin; its easily-concealed nature (as a standard rubber eraser) means that only the most perceptive servitors will be able to detect it unless they see it in action, and its vast power means that only the most trusted servitors will be sent to get it. Both of which, of course, mean that inevitably the PCs will get the job. The Rubber Eraser has no point cost; it is a unique relic. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Jul 2002 20:30:44 -0700 (PDT) From: Kanako Otaku Subject: Re: IN> Evil Mike part 1 >Eeeeek! (imagine Lawrence in a black suit of armour, covered in wickedly sharp silver scythes that glimmer with hellish runes. mmmmm. yummy) Honor? Perfection? Nobility? Superiority? >Fire -> Wrath Destruction, Desolation, Passion? >Trade -> Consumption/the Deal Exploitation? >Creation -> Destruction? Infernal Creation? Cancer? - creation gone out of control. Debautchery? Hedonism? >Children -> No idea actually... Brats? Lost Innocence? >Protection -> Assassination?/"Covert Operations"? Another Co-Dependance candidate, also Control, Weakness (humans dont need to be strong, we'll protect them from everything, except themselves) >the Waters -> Infernal Water I suppose the Void, The Depths, Mysteries? Destruction (again)? Tides? >Knowledge -> Power? (You know, wisdom/knowledge is power, begotten for the >wrong reasons, etc) Information? Mysteries? The Forbidden? Lore? Occult? >Purity -> Cleansing/Eradication the Ideal (The world is flawed, it should strive to be perfect, like me) >*DP Words* > >the War -> back to Valor Honor? >Lust -> back to Love Sexuality? (I doubt andre would be able to reconcile his/her acts while Lust, but might try to put a 'cleaner' slant on them. you know, informed consent, sexual liberty, the discovery of self through others) >Fate -> Destiny... (shyeah, like HE'D ever Redeem) Guidance? Hope? >Dark Humor -> back to Laughter or Comedy? Self-Esteem? >Factions -> Unity/Trust/Friendship/Inididuality Acceptance? Identity? Community? >Nightmares -> back to Fear Fortitude? (face your fears and grow strong) >the Game -> no real heavenly analog aside from Judgment. Justice maybe? >Loyalty? Investigation? Fairness? Competition (games aspect)? >Theft -> Generosity/the Wind Divine Chaos? Anarchy (in the sense it was intended.. not the popular view. Give people the tools to truly decide how they want to be governed, and let them choose freely.) >Technology -> Science. Or... SCIENCE! Rationality? Progress? >Death -> Divine Death I suppose. Life? Hope? Fulfillment? (cf Oops) >Fire -> Inspiration Energy? Dedication? Divine Fury? >Greed -> can't think of one Equality? Finance? >the Media -> Communication Creativity? Inspiration? The Word? >Cruelty -> Ice/Kindness/Love Tenderness? Sanctuary? >Secrets -> Trust Thats a good one... Enlightenment? >Drugs -> not sure... Respite? Medicine? Healing? Rehabilitation? >Hardcore -> eh... can't get a good one now Dedication? Fervour? >Corruption -> Purity/Balance Morality? >Disease -> Healing Life? >Rapine -> Ew... I dunno Generosity? Succor? >Oblivion -> back to Memory Another healing candiate, but focussing on the mental aspects. Tranquility maybe? >Sloth -> Relaxation? Effort? Energy? >the Oceans -> back to Sailors Journeys? Voyages? theres a few more for people to ruminate over... - -FallenSeraph "tausend graue Mäuse mit blauen Mäusehäusern" http://www.geocities.com/archangel_nine ICQ: 110193631 _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Aug 2002 08:05:54 -0400 From: Cameron McCurry Subject: Re: IN>Fallen Words > Greed -> can't think of one Charity > Drugs -> not sure... He Fell because >humanity made him Fall, not because he chose to Fall. Actually, no, Kobal Fell with the other rebelling angels, mostly out of disgust/horror *at* the Rebellion. (Superiors 2 writeup). "Laughter changed to mocking scorn" is the way he personally changed after Falling, as he lost the Word of Laughter to gain the Word of Dark Humor. > The Word can change >the Superior, but I don't think the Superior can change the Word. A Superior can only change his Word by making humanity change the interpretation, by having the interpretation of humanity or their own shift (such as Gabriel focusing on cruelty, Jean becoming Heaven's technologist, half Khalid's attunements focusing on Muslims, etc), or by Falling/Redeeming. The latter case usually has the Superior *lose* the Word, occasionally gaining a new one instead (as is commonly assumed for reverse-Superior writeups.) That's why Andrealphus is Lust, not simply an infernal Love, etc. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Aug 2002 12:03:09 -0400 From: "Eric Bertish" Subject: Re: IN>Fallen Words > > Hardcore -> eh... can't get a good one now > > Enthusiasm I rather like Zeal.
