Not so. Humanity's perception of Love is pretty much the same as it's always been (though the emphasis changes periodically), but Andrealphus still Fell. Come to think of it, Laughter hasn't changed much in humanity's eyes, either (Western media gives a skewed view of this, but Western society is not even close to being most of the world). Canon strongly suggests that Falling or Redeeming at least damages a Celestial's connection to a Word. =====

I'd represent this as a reduction of darkness penalties. 2) Heightened musculuture: cats are _very_ strong for their size (I was once knocked back six feet by a swat from a tame cougar; she was only playing with me, and it was a glancing blow). This contributes to exceptional leaping ability as well as the obvious combat applications. 3) Natural Weaponry: the claws are used for fighting and climbing (bonus to Power for claw attacks, bonus to TN for climbing rolls). The fangs are the primary killing weapons, but their puprose isn't to do damage so much as to enhance grip; big cats usually kill by grabbing the prey animal's throat and holding on until the prey suffocates. 4) Enhanced Hearing/Olfaction: better than a Human's but not as good as a dog's. Can hear a little into the ultrasonic. Directional hearing may be superhuman; ears can adjust to focus better on a given direction. =====

Yes, the Cold War thouroughly Demonized the idea. There's been a conceptual Word-shift, as per GMG p.22; the original intent is unimportant, because that's not what it means to most people anymore. The celestial Word "Communism" now encompasses Stalin, Mao, the KGB, the Stasi, the Berlin Wall, the Cultural Revolution, the Prauge Spring, the Hungarian Uprising, the Ukranian Famine, Tianamen Square . . . making the Word pretty thouroughly Demonic. - -- Steven E. The smoke cleared and the dust settled, revealing him as victor, Lucifer dead. However, the rebellion did not end. Far from it, Lucifer's chief lieutenants made sure of that. Michael, for his part as Archangel of War, fought on the front lines. After beating Lucifer, he became addicted to fighting, to killing. It became a twisted obsession, to the point that he became a Balseraph himself. The Host beat Michael and the rebels back, but at a price. Only a third of Heaven rebelled, but thanks to Michael's command, half of those that remained loyal to God were dead. After convincing Lilith to free the Demons from their imprisonment, he used his Balseraphic resonance to twist her mind to thinking that life is imprisonment and Death is freedom. At which point, he granted her the Word of Death. Lilith herself became Undead at that moment, and Michael's chief lieutenant. Many Princes were never crowned in his reign, such as Haagenti and Fleurity, among others. He saw no use in their Words. The Princes now all have Words that he has found useful. Nightmares, Death, Technology, Factions, Fire, The Game, Fate, Theft, Greed and Oblivion. As for Lust and Dark Humor, he knew they could be useful to keep up troop morale, but cast them out after the proved more trouble than they were worth. The Media is on a trial basis, so Nybbas can prove to Michael that he is worth keeping around. Victory is a secondary goal to him, as the spreading of wars is his main goal. Lilith, his bride and queen, he courted for centuries, using the Words of the other Princes to help him find a way to get her. The Trojan War, a war Michael had Malphas start, he used as a gift to Death. He unleashed the Black Death Vapula made upon Europe's population to please her. He had Belial burn Rome to the ground for her. When Lust and Dark Humor no longer proved useful, he gave the order to execute them. They escaped, turning Renegade in the process. When Jordi, Prince of Beasts, one of those who had Fallen with him, was redeemed by Oannes, Michael himself ended his former ally's existence, transforming his scattered Angelic Forces to Demonic ones, using them to empower a then weak Beleth. As for Oannes, Lilith nearly crippled the Archangel, then left the badly wounded parts for Belial to finish off. Infernal Fire could never have beaten Water without help. History however, remembers it all to be Belial's doing. As the Purity Crusade came, Michael watched as Heaven tried in vain to recall Uriel. As he neared Beleth's domain in the Marches however, Michael decided to keep him from ruining the power base Hell had there. When push came to shove, Uriel's life ended at Michael's blade. In the battle with Legion, Michael would have been happy to let him alone, had he not dared to declare his superiority over Michael. It was the only time that the four most fierce warriors of all Creation, Laurence, Michael, Lilith and Gabriel were seen working together. Legion didn't stand a chance. <>sidebar<> The Princes, divided into groups Michael, being the way he is, chose his Princes out of purpose. His inner circle is composed of five Princes, whom he finds irreplaceable. Technology, Nightmares, The Game, Fate and Fire. They compose his court, they are his field commanders. All of them are brutally loyal to him, as they should be. Death it not in this group as Lilith is his queen, and is higher than the others. Another group are Michael's lesser Princes, Factions, Theft, The Media and Greed. This group is less important to him than the core five, but are still valuable to him none the less. They are Princes with little use in combat, but have skills that he needs to maintian a smoothly operating army. Should any of them fail however, Michael *may* strip of them of their Princehood, rendering them under the service of one of the others. As what happened to Furfur, who now serves Belial. Third, are the two Renegades. Lust and Dark Humor were overstepping the limits War set upon them. They would have been useful for keeping troop morale high, but they kept pushing Michael's patinece until finally, they could only either leave or die. Since they didn't Redeem, they're stuck as Renegades, hunted down by both Asmodeus and Heaven. As for Baal, his life as one of Michael's highest ranking Servitors ended with his defection to the side of Dominic, the commander of the Host. He has eluded vengeace for now, but he knows Michael does not tolerate treason and will kill him eventually. <>end sidebar<> Personality: Michael is a pragmatist. The Princes and Words he grants are well thought out, and not given out on a whim. He inspects the Principalities every decade personally, oversees the training of his own troops and is very, very strict in handing out Words. His dear, demented wife Lilith, is his closest comrade, and the only Princess he trusts. He enjoys fighting and killing, a little too much. Feared by all, he is also a virtually unstoppable force on the battlefield, killing his enemies with exceeding skill and butchery. He is not one to personally handle the day to day running of Hell, and has left that task to Kronos. Dissonance Conditions: It is dissonant for a Demon of War to lose a battle to a clearly weaker opponent, such as one with less Forces or is wounded. It is also dissonant to not be involved in some sort of hostility within one day. If they manage to start a battle, such as a riot or duel, they gain 1 Essence at sunset. It is also dissonant to fail a mission that Michael indirectly assigned to you. <>sidebar<> Missions from Michael Michael never, *never* gives orders directly to his Servitors other than his Barons. Instead, he gives the orders a Baron, who then relays it to a Captain, who passes it to a Knight, who gives it the the one it was intended to in the first place. Going through the lower ranks is optional for the Baron, but Michael's dissonance conditions make it so that when the assigned one fails, the ones who relayed the orders from Michael become dissonant as well. As such, they prefer sharing the dissonance. <>end sidebar<> Organization: Simply put, a barbarian horde. The best way to go higher along Michael's ranks is to kill a lot of the enemy. He will tolerate no internal killing for a distinction, since it is a waste of a good soldier. Failure is only acceptable when outnumbered or outgunned. Those who fail are stripped of whatever Michael thinks is appropriate punishment, be it a Force or an attunement or their life. Relations: Married and madly in love with: Lilith Allied: None, the Dark Lord needs no allies Associated: Kronos, Beleth, Vapula, Belial, Asmodeus Neutral: Everyone else, except Hostile: Oblivion ( I can't remember her name ), Andrealphus, Kobal Chance of Invocation: 10 for Dark Lilith, -3 for everyone else (He's a very busy Balseraph) Invocation Modifiers: +5 in the middle of a battlefield +4 one of his Servitors +3 most of the Princes, as well as Lilim (they *are* his step Daughters after all) +2 the Princess of Oblivion +1 holding a weapon recently used in a battle - -1 if your'e a dissonant Servitor of his - -2 if you're a Servitors of Lust or Dark Humor - -3 if you've failed a mission he sent you on in the past hundred years - -4 in a tranquil area <>sidebar<> Lost Princes Clearly, a lot of canon Princes are missing if Michael takes over, but they're not really dead. Haagenti, Saminga and Fleurity are all in Lilith' service. Haagenti and Fleurity still hold their Words, while Saminga is the Demon of Zombies. Alaemon was never crowned and is in service to Valefor. Genubath lost to Valefor in their battle for Princehood and is one of Theft's Captains. The others are either dead or are low ranking Demons. <>end sidebar<> Attunements, distinctions, etc. are coming next. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! This highly obnoxious Discord causes the sufferer to be perpetually out of tune with the Symphony. Every time a Modal celestial wishes to use his, her or its base resonance, it must first make a successful Perception and/or Will roll, minus the level of the Discord. If this roll is failed, the celestial will instead get access to a limited version of some other Choir/Band resonance. This is often dangerous, and always frustrating. The new resonance is determined as follows: take the CD of the failed roll and count down (or up) the hierarchy. The two hierarchies are reproduced for your convenience: Seraph Detects truth at the equivalent of CD 1. Cherub Knows location of the target for the next five minutes, but can't hurt him or her. Ofanite Suddenly accelerates at the greater of (2x current speed) or 30 mph. Elohite Knows the primary emotional state of the target, but unfortunately the volume control is broken. The sudden shock will give a -3 to all other actions that round. Malakite Sees the most dishonorable act done by the target in the last day. Also gets the first Malakite oath for five minutes. Kyriotate Takes possession of the target for (Will) rounds before succumbing to extreme sensory shock (3D6 Mind Hits) Mercurian Gets the Mercurian resonance at CD 1 for five rounds. Balseraph Can resonate one person automatically (CD of 1): that person gets a +2 to resist. Djinn Same as the Cherub resonance, really. Calabite Does (Modal Level) Body Hits to the target. Habbalite Projects the demon's current emotional state onto the target (CD of 1) Lilim Detects a single level/1 Need... but no Geas if fulfilled. Shedite Same as the Kyriotate resonance, except that the Mind Hit damage is 4D6. Impudite Can Charm, but not Drain Essence: the maximum CD for the former is 1. Note that Grigori and Skulkers are not on this list; also, jump to the top (and/or the bottom, as appropriate) of the list as necessary. For example: a Malakite with Modal fails her Perception roll, with a CD of 4. She will count down four spots (Kyriotate, Mercurian, Seraph, Cherub): now, instead of confirming someone's dishonor, she instead detects their location and is prohibited from hurting them. An Impudite that failed his Will roll with the same CD will count up (Shedite, Lilim, Habbalite, Calabite): so, instead of Charming someone, he's just caused them Body Hits. As for unfavorable Interventions, well, the poor unfortunate will suddenly develop access to the resonance of their opposite numbers (Malakite get the Lilim resonance, and vice versa). This will always be dissonant! As a general rule, Superiors seriously dislike seeing their Servitors go Modal: most will immediately remove or replace it (or just destroy the Servitor in question). Thus, most celestials suffering from it are Outcasts and/or Renegades. ===== Liber Licentiae Moeticae: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 04/13/02(this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
