Because the original draft never mentioned either Oannes or Vephar (deliberately or by oversight, I don't know) and by the time the APG came out, the writers felt they had to correct this oversight. So it's a case of "They're not in the book because they're dead, see." Handy, no? Me, I don't think Oannes & Vephar added anything to the setting. I think Janus & Valephor work just fine for water as well as wind-- every time I look at Val I see a pirate (Arr!), and my scientist friends tell me that the atmosphere is essentially an ocean of air. - -- Casca "Many people hear voices when no-one is there. Water vapor is one of the more common trace components of the atmosphere, which is 75% nitrogen. Most of the rest is carbon dioxide and oxygen, in that order, with about 2% of various trace elements. At 12:05 AM +0000 8/20/02, Sirea Theyal wrote: >Then a thought occured to me- why exactly did Oannes die by Belial's hands? Among other reasons, he was weakened by his battle with Vephar, Prince of Oceans. My THEORY is that if you have Words which are really close, it's not like you can use your Word-powers against an enemy effectively. The Waters can't drown Oceans, and vice versa. So it comes down to a Power Sluggin' Match. Oannes won, and ripped Vephar up, but because they were doing it basically the Old Fashioned Rumble way, Oannes got messed up. Probably lost a lot of Forces, etc. Then Belial, fresh and unharmed, showed up and started mixin' it up. Oannes thought that, even wounded, he could take the blighter (and/or that he could at least knock Belial down enough that someone else'd come finish him off!). Unfortunately, Oannes' water powers weren't enough to drown Belial's Fire, while Fire was doing nasty things to Water (boil, boil, steam, steam), and everyone else was busy. So, Oannes, wounded and not at peak, hung on a little too long, maybe tried some kamikaze attack, and failed. Belial lived, and Baal liked having Belial around long enough to protect him when he returned to Hell to lick his own wounds. (This is why Belial and Gabriel can't just firestrike each other and have done with it -- fire can't fight fire effectively.) Thus ends Beth's foray into THEORY land. Ed, Outcast Kyriotate of Jean Corporeal Forces: 2 (Strength 1 Agility 7) Ethereal Forces: 4 (Intelligence 12 Percision 4) Celestial Forces: 3 (Will 3 Perception 9) The gate accident (where servitors of Theft, Dark Humor and Technology managed to get out one of Jeans unstable prototypes, and get half of earth killed) left a lot of angels and demons insane, dissonant, remnated, or dead. Ed herself was the remnant of a Kyriotate, until over the years she managed to get her forces back bit by bit. She is still left scarred by the incident though, and is slightly... insane. She eventually goes along with Spike and co, and gets attached to Ein, who she feels a (rightful) connection with. Ein, very confused Seraph of Jean Corporeal Forces: 1 (Strength 1 Agility 3) Ethereal Forces: 6 (Intelligence 12 Percision 12) Celestial Forces: 2 (Will 4 Perception 4) Well... gosh, Ein was only speaking the Truth when he made that comment to Jordi about animals being inferior in intellect to humans... and the next thing he knows, BAM! He's Bound to the vessel of a welsh corgi, and is caught up in the clutches of a bunch of insane servitors of Vapula. Well, at least he got stuck with some decent people. But... they treat him so BAD. He's a Seraph! He's... well, starting to see Jordi's point, and is learnign some humility. At least he has a Kyrio of Lightning to keep him company, albeit a totally insane Kyrio. _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Aug 2002 00:10:36 -0400 From: Damien A Wellman Subject: Re: IN>Eli has been nice to me! 'course, it's hard to look like a Dread Evil Princess of Fate when all they have to do is send the Angel of Pumpkins, a trusted servant of Novalis, after her... ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
