Actually, I thought that Saminga's been around since before the extinction of the dinosaurs (GMG timeline, or a massive memory failure on my part). The Archangel of Death has not had its choir canonically stated (though the list seems to like the idea of a grigori). It's entirely possible that the AA came after Saminga received it, in a Heavenly attempt to reclaim the word. Before anyone claims that Heaven would never do that because of Word friction, Heaven may not have known about it yet. If the Gabriel/Belial case is the most advanced case of Word friction, it didn't really begin until after Gabriel withdrew from Heaven proper, being in the 8th century AD or so. As another hypothesis, it could be that Word friction hurts angels a lot more than demons because demons (at least the case of Belial and probably Saminga) tend to focus on one aspect of their Word, while the known angels who suffer from Word friction (really, only Gabriel's got a description in canon) have embraced a wider aspect of their Word. It would be interesting to see the effect on Lilith if the Seraphim Council gave an angel the word of Freedom. Of course, with her being a human, it could have much different effects on her (I'd say none, but YMMV). Of course, that would only be in a fairly low contrast game, where the Seraphim Council doesn't mind possibly screwing up an angel just to see what happens to a Princess. I finally managed to get my order all fixed up for my books (there was a mess up) and they'll be here around this Friday or so. One of the books I got was GRUPS IN (being a GURPS nut and all, it was my starting RPG) and I was curious- how much IN content is in there? As in, I know there's rules for Grigori and Skulkers, but is there things like Bright Lilim attunements, and stuff for Superiors like Magog and Khalid and such? Just wondering, and thanks ^_^ - -Sirea, Free Cherub, Angel who Wanders, petitioner for the Word of Eternity _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Sep 2002 21:42:57 -0400 From: "Josh Moger" Subject: Re: IN>Content of GURPS IN? > >-Sirea, Free Cherub, Angel who Wanders, petitioner for the Word of Eternity > The Word of Eternity? Well, being bored, my curiosity piqued and I decided to investigate it some. After a bit of tired research, I managed to spark a minor idea. *Song of Fusion* Two people are needed to perform this Song correctly, and if one user knows it at a lower level than the other, then the lower of the two levels will be used. This Song costs just 1 Essence to use, but when the duration is up, all Essence that the performers have remaining will be lost. The performers must -also- make a Dancing skill roll, and a Will roll, or else the Song will not work properly. When using the Song, the performers must do an intricate dance while singing the Song, and end the dance touching each others fingers together. A bright light will infuse the performers, and they will literally -fuse- together, combining their powers and abilities into a powerful package. Demons and angels can fuse together. What this does in game terms is the following- - -Take the Forces for each realm of both celestials, and average them together, rounding down. Thus, if you have a 11-Force and 15-Force celestial, you would end up with a 13-Force celestial. For each area of Forces and attributes, do the same. For example- Celestial A has 11 Forces Corporeal Forces: 4 Str-6 Agi-8 Ethereal Forces: 3 Int-8 Pre-4 Celestial Forces: 4 Wil-6 Per-10 Celestial B has 15 Forces Corporeal Forces: 6 Str-12 Agi-12 Ethereal Forces: 3 Int-4 Pre-8 Celestial Forces: 6 Wil-12 Per-12 They fuse to become Celestial AB, with 13 Forces Corporeal Forces: 5 Str-9 Agi-11 Ethereal Forces: 3 Int-6 Pre-6 Celestial Forces: 5 Wil-9 Per-11 The fused celestial will have the skills of both performers, modified by the new attribute levels. The same goes for Songs. The fused celestial will have the attunements and distinctions of both performers also. The new Choir-Choir, Choir-Band, or Band-Band celestial will have resonances of both performers, with a check digit cap of 3. The fused celestial will have the dissonance conditions for Word and Choir/Band from both performers. The new celestial form of the fused being will look like a mixture of the performers celestial forms, modified by mixed Word. They will speak with the voice of both performers, and will act as a new individual, and when the Song ends, both performers will know everything that happened, and have a powerful insight into the mind of their fellow performer, which can be good or bad depending. In some odd cases, fused celestials claim they serve a different Word altogether, sometimes with new powers to back it up (Like a Seraph of Destiny and a Calabite of Fate claiming they were now a Calaraph of the Symphony, or a Cherub of War and a Elohite of Fire saying the were a Cherohite of Carnage). The Song lasts for a half hour, at which point both celestials will come apart, with no Essence, but in the condition they fused in. The song causes 10 straight points of disturbance for every use. Plot Seed- by some Infernal (or Divine!) Intervention, two battling or arguing Superiors somehow activate the Song of Fusion, instead of their intended Song without knowing it, and fly together to create a fused Superior! This can be odd, funny, or just painfully Dark, depending on your campaign. Some examples- Novalis+Michael = Novichael, Cheraph Archangel of Balance Eli+Nybbas = Elibbas, Mercudite Angel Prince of Creativity Belial+Jean = Belian, Calohite Archdemon of Plasma Asmodeus+Magog = Asmogog, Djinite Demon Prince of Condemnation Yay! I know the mechanics are pretty messy, but I was really bored and had nothing to do, so enjoy and make up your own fusions ^_^ - -Sirea, -bored- Free Cherub, Angel who Wanders, patient petitioner for the Word of Eternity _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Sep 2002 19:59:13 +0000 From: "Sirea Theyal" Subject: IN>Messy expanded angelic resonance? Well, in addition to my small stream of questions, I wanted to ask another more personal one. While skipping through the old digests, I have read a few times about there being an expanded resonance table for the Choirs in the APG I believe it was. And I also noted how everyone seems to hate them with a burning passion (to the point I read Beth saying the APG is okay if you white them out). May I ask why this is? I've never read the APG, and I'm just curious as to what makes these expanded rezzy tables so abhorent. And this is different from the expanded uses of resonances, correct? Thanks! _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Sep 2002 07:07:56 -0600 From: Julian Mensch Subject: RE: IN>Messy expanded angelic resonance? Not _everyone_ hates the expanded resonances, but I think folks who like them are in a steep minority. I personally like the idea, though there's a few glitches in the implementation. Anyway, the main protests seem to be that: 1. It adds more charts to the game, and causes more book- searching in gametime. 2. Kyriotates are already more powerful by far than the other Choirs, and the expanded resonances multiply this problem: Kyrios gets the biggest new bennies of any Choir. 3. The Kyrio expansion overlaps, and takes away from, the "Kyriotate of Destiny" attunement. 4. One of the expanded Mercurian tables lets them sense a target's desires, which overlaps with the Lilim resonance, and again takes away from that Band's uniqueness. 5. The expanded tables magnify the "Mercurian resonance" problem significantly, creating even *more* types of information a GM can have to come up with off the top of his head for any given NPC. 6. The ruling that the Malakim interpret their resonance subjective to a target's own sense of honor (i.e., a bad guy is someone who feels guilty about his actions, a good guy is someone who lives up to his own code, whatever that may be) is wonky in all sorts of ways: it contradicts the canon ethos for the Sword and Stone, and makes Malakim behave in very unheroic, unsympathetic and often laughable ways. Myself, I think the tables are flawed, but have potential. I have my own somewhat revised versions for a Backwards heresy I'm working on that fixes problems 2, 3, 4 and 6. My case for the tables is that I think a resonance is more of a fundamental aptitude then a "superpower." The perceptual ones are literally a sixth sense, comparible to sight or hearing for the angels that possess them. Sight can be used to spot enemies, to read written words, to measure distances, to appreuciate beauty, to guide movement and so forth. The sense a resonance provides should be both as flexible and as natural as that, and the APG conveyed that feeling to me. So I like them, but understand why others don't. BTW, I can post some revised tables here if anyone's interested, but I gather most people aren't. I don't have them all done yet, either, and many are still in notes- form. - -- Julian Mensch ------------------------------ End of in_nomine-digest V1 #2773 ********************************
