Between the things he's constantly doing for Jonathan in IOU's exceedingly odd environment, attentiveness to lectures Jonathan attends, and a slight desperation arising from the knowledge that he is not covered by the convenient Life Insurance at IOU, he would likely have a *very* wide selection of skills at DX or IQ. EQUIPMENT [10]: Besides the sundries of his settled life, Jeeves has over the years invested about $750,000 in various items available through Jonathan's connections and around IOU which he can maintain himself -- self-recharging energy weapons, small magical items usable by Mundanes, top-of-the-(TL8)-line palmtop computers, and a prize possession, a large TL11 Force Shield which comes in handy far more often than he'd expected. * Jonathan pays awfully well. ** This wouldn't be all that much of a problem at IOU, except Jonathan wouldn't knowingly want an actual /Soldier of Hell/ around. In a Silly or Weird campaign, Jonathan has at least minimal standards for the help; in a Dark campaign, he'd have the vague impression that Jeeves outranked him. *** Jeeves isn't a student. The most understated human I can think of. Okay. A butler. Furfur: I'VE BEEN WANTING A BUTLER FOR YEARS ANYWAY, JOKESTER! WATCH *THIS*!! Kobal: I am an animated mass of interest. *yawn* And that's how Furfur got himself a butler. Jeeves was perfect: he could always use an extra edge given the situations Jonathan got into, he would do pretty much anything for money or duty, and he was the perfect butler. Perfect, I tell you. This man is one hardcore butler. Nothing fazes him. He can take on just about anything short of Heaven. He wouldn't think twice about taking a bullet for Jonathan. True, he'll be heading to Hell, but he'll be the personal butler of a Demon Prince( Suuuuuure he will....), and really, how much further can you advance in his profession? True... but I was going more for the definition found in books- "In Freudian theory, the division of the psyche that is totally unconscious and serves as the source of instinctual impulses and demands for immediate satisfaction of primitive needs." (definition of Id, per Dictionary) Beleth has her place here, but the Princes of sin, such as Haagenti, Andrealphus, and Mammon, fill that niche about satisfaction of primitive needs much better. I really see Batman as working with Michaelites before anyone else. Dominic is too rules oriented. Batman works too much outside of them, which would get him in trouble under Judgement. Laurence is too organized for Batman to work as a cog within. Michael's organization is just right. Go out and stop the bad guys. I don't think Batman would give Michael a dressing down either, mainly because Michael doesn't lose and would put the Dark Knight in his place. Batman didn't kill because that was what separated him from the badguys from my understanding. Killing is not what separates angels from demons. Besides, the are Michaelites who don't kill, Mercurians, and Batman would get along with them just fine. Jim __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Y! Most of it doesn't convert, I'm afraid. He's a Soldier with the typical spread of Forces, 3/2/1, with a few extra points invested in Will. He has a wide variety of skills at levels 2 and 3, and several small pieces of high-tech and magical equipment (IOU is a crossover genre). He has nearly twice the number of points you'd have as a starting character, though, because he is not a student at IOU and the place is insanely dangerous for a regular character without access to a regular method of revivification. >(Also, the way I imagined this guy was the >butler from Hudson Hawk(God, I never thought I'd get >milage out of that movie) or any crazy anime butler >(such as the evil twisty guy in Sorcerer Hunters) or >even Richie Rich's butler!) But as someone else pointed out, he's saint material in several years. I couldn't really see Batman giving up after death especially given a chance to "fight the good fight" post-mortem. In fact, I'd think he'd prefer it given the "Bruce Wayne:Murderer?/Fugitive?" story-arch. In this case (unless I'm missing something about saints, which is very possible) he'd be working with/for SOMEONE, and I see that being most likely Michael as his command is the loosest (as I've understood the texts) and most accomodating to Batman's methods. Ideally, he'd be superiorless, yet still working for Heaven. As that is not how I have come to know Heaven to work (please correct me if I'm wrong) War is the camp that seems to be home of the solos and vigilantes, such as Batman. (crossposted to Pyramid) ...because everybody should have a hobby. BTW, I got the idea of this from a book called Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal (Christopher Moore, $25.95 American, ISBN 0-380-97840-7). You need this book. Let me rephrase: you Need this book. ;) Moe Flying Righteous Lamb Kung Fu!!!!! It's very simple. People who know Kung Fu are cool. Jesus Christ was cool. Therefore, Jesus Christ knew Kung Fu. See how that Seraph over there isn't wincing? That proves that I'm not lying. Well, he may be wincing a little, but that's not because I'm lying. It probably has to do with the bad logic, or maybe the cognitive dissonance, or even the names for the moves. Seraphim have no sense of humor about things, sometimes. Look, do you want to learn the moves, or not? Thought so. Flying Righteous Lamb Kung Fu (Agility or Precision or Perception) Default: none This is the basic 'fighting' skill: the scare quotes are used because, frankly, it is actually impossible to directly do damage while using it. The practitioner is instead able to disable an opponent through a combination of pressure points, careful redirection of force and general niceness. Flying Righteous Lamb Kung Fu can be used in all three planes; use the appropriate characteristic. Treat as a regular Fighting roll, except that all damage 'done' is strictly temporary (and does not cause pain, interestingly enough). When sufficient pseudo-Body, Mind or Soul Hits are inflicted to cause the equivalent of Trauma, unconsciousness and/or the loss of a Force, respectively, the target is instead knocked out for one hour. There are no further adverse consequences. The pseudo-damage done is completely separate from regular damage, does not 'stack' with regular damage and goes away after an hour. There are no restrictions on who may learn the basic Flying Righteous Lamb Kung Fu skill, but it is dissonant for demons to actually use it. This is another one of those ineffable things, apparently. Also, use of FRLKF and the maneuvers below does not cost Essence or cause Disturbance: again, it's ineffable. Needless to say, Servitors of Flowers love this martial arts style, as using it is not normally dissonant for them. Servitors of the Sword and Judgement have their own inner reasons for walking along this path... Other Skills Acrobatics is often used in conjunction with Flying Righteous Lamb Kung Fu: a successful Acrobatics roll each turn will add 1 to the final CD of any 'attacks'. The primary weapons for this style are staff and whip: staves have a "Power" of +3, no Accuracy bonus and no range, while Whips follow the stats given in the Corporeal Players Guide, page 118. Anyone who knows this martial art may use these two weapons in a manner that does not cause damage: s u b stitute Agility for Strength when determining Power and (for the whip) grappling attempts. Advanced Techniques As the student advances, certain abilities become available. They are taught as separate maneuvers; unless otherwise noted, they can never be learned at a level above the base skill. All rolls are at (Default Skill/level) + (Appropriate Characteristic) - (Default skill level) + (Maneuver skill level). Spinning Lightning Halo Attack (FRLKF/1; defaults to FRLKF -4) This is traditionally the first skill taught to the adept; those deemed worthy are given Haloes (effectively Relic/0s that can exist on all three planes. Many Haloes have extra enchantments) and taught their use. This maneuver allows the adept to use his FRLKF skill at range (up to 10 yards); s u b stitute the SLHA target number for the regular roll. Also, multiple opponents can be targeted. Roll for each target, with a -2 for every target past the first. If all rolls are successful, the Halo will return to the user's hand. Servitors of Stone are taught this maneuver: they may not use it to disable their opponents, but they have found that it is not dissonant for them to use their Haloes to - for example - hit the cutoff switch before the nuclear power plant melts down, or set off the motion sensors in the museum, or anything else where a bouncing circular plate could come in handy... Ferocious Bleat of Triumph (FRLKF/2; defaults to FRLKF - -4) This is essentially a Kiai, or channeling of the martial artist's Chi into a mighty shout... well, bleat. It takes a round to prepare: a successful roll will reduce all opponents effective skill rolls by (CD/2) for that combat round. Original Sin's Banishment (FRLKF/3; defaults to FRLKF - -5) This is not exactly a combat skill, per se: by meditating for one minute, the adept may achieve an inner speed that will triple the distance that she can run or jump. She may also walk on water at her regular move rate, provided of course that she does not stop. Clever Cleansing Scourge (Small Weapon: Whip/3 and FRLKF/3; defaults to Whip -6) An adept who learns this maneuver has amazing control over whips; he ignores armor and obstructions in attacks, can strike behind himself without penalty and has a plus to his Agility rolls equal to (CCS/2, rounded up) in all attempts to disarm or topple an opponent. Golden Rule Staff Defense (Large Weapon: Staff/3 and FRLKF/3; defaults to Staff -6) This represents advanced staff technique; a successful roll will add the CD to any Dodge roll (more accurately, a 'Dodge by Parrying' roll). Someone with GRSD/6 may bounce an attack back onto the attacker, causing the assailant to take pseudo-damage equal to the attack. As In Nomine is a cinematic game anyway, this skill should be useable in all sorts of situations, explicitly including gunfire... Blood of the Lamb Rainbow Intercession (FRLKF/4; defaults to FRLKF -6) An adept trained in this maneuver can (on a successful skill roll) volunteer to take the damage done to any other person within (maneuver/level) yards: this is accomplished, bluntly, by the adept running over to put himself in the path of the attack (while ignoring utterly any obstacles and/or restraints). Logos Kiai (FRLKF/5 and FBT/5; defaults to FBT -8) This is a much more powerful version of FBT. The adept has a fragment syllable of the original Word used to create the universe; any who hear it successfully uttered must roll versus Will -6 or fall unconscious for 1d6 hours. This includes the speaker, incidentally. Miraculous Multiple Fists of Faith (FRLKF/6 and SLHA/6; defaults to FRLKF -12) The adept must prepare for (total Forces) rounds; a successful skill roll will allow (total Forces) attacks against one or many opponents (each opponent must be within 10 yards of the adept). The adept must then immediately successfully roll against Will -6 or else fall unconscious for 1 hour. Unfortunately, the effectiveness of this maneuver may not be increased by judicious use of Essence, Songs or the Ofanite Resonance. Secret Trans u b stantiated Righteous Attack... OF DOOM!!!!! (Secret; All Maneuvers at level/6 and a legitimate vocation; defaults to FRLFK -12) Well, it wouldn't be a proper martial art style if it didn't have a Legendary Death Attack, right? The adept - heck, by now we're in master-level territory - has learned how to use the miracle of God's trans u b stantiation into corporeal form to properly chastise the wicked. Essentially, the attacker takes some communion wafers, turns them into the Body of Christ (Perception Roll -4) and then flings them like shuriken. If they strike a demon, the wafers do 4d6 pseudo-hits; humans will not be affected at all, unless they happen to be possessed by a demon. In that case, calculate the human's Body Hits as if it were not being possessed; if the damage done is enough to knock out the human, the demon is immediately cast out and will be stunned for 1d6 combat rounds. ===== Liber Licentiae Moeticae: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 09/18/02 (this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? This is rarely an issue, since it is highly unlikely that a superior would ever give their personal sigil to a servitor of another Archangel. All Sigils are infused with the light of heaven, and if held in celestial form by an infernal, the demon must make a will roll every round suffering 6-CD soul hits (and a failed roll _increases_ the damage) which can strip a force. A divine intervention almost always annihilates the demon in question, and an infernal intervention grants the demon one hour’s immunity. It is impossible to take a sigil into hell, without the permission of the archangel. The sigil bearer will be in direct telepathic and empathic communion with the superior at all times, whether angelic or infernal (another problem for demons trying to steal one). The superior will rarely directly guide the bearer, since they are assumed to be capable and loyal servitors. After all, you wouldn’t hand your personal icon to any old Tomiel, Dickiah, or Harryon? Would you? In addition to these already potent abilities, each sigil has additional effects dependant on the superior and their word. - -Azrael- Celestial form: A shimmering infinity symbol, traced in silver fire and with diamond-like sand running through it in a constant stream symbolizing the unending cycle of life and death. Corporeal form: a silver hourglass on a chain of ebony beads. Diamond like sand flows from top to bottom constantly, seeming both to flow properly and at the same time, to never flow at all. (note, the hourglass is 6” long, and is not easily concealed) Abilities: By holding up the hourglass, and spending 2 essence, the bearer can determine the _exact_ time of a mortal’s death, barring celestial intervention. The mortal in question must be present in the angel’s field of view. - -Blandine- Celestial form: A single, perfect crystal of perfect midnight blue, within which the word Hope is written in angelic, seemingly constructed from a galaxy of tiny stars. This sigil has never left heaven and the marches, and is almost always seen in the possession of Severin, one of her high ranking Menunim. Corporeal form: Should this sigil ever be taken to the corporeal plane, it would appear as a simple silver tiara, with a smaller version of the crystal hanging in its centre. Examining the crystal under a microscope would reveal the same word deep within the jewel as appears in its celestial form, save that it is now written in the native language of the observer. Abilities: The bearer gains the use of _all_ Blandine’s unrestricted Choir attunements, and may, by placing the sigil against a dreamscape, enter it without needing to make any rolls whatsoever. - -Christopher- Celestial form: A swirling spiral of multi-colored lights that promotes joy and happiness in all who see it. Its soothing lights calm all but the most ferocious of tempers, and bring back memories of happier, more innocent times. Corporeal form: A smiling teddy bear, plush, and cuddly. It is slightly threadbare from eons of hugs, but shows no sign of falling apart. Abilities: Anyone within the bearer’s presence must make a will roll at a -6 penalty in order to harm a child, and a failed roll will inflict CD hits across all three realms, along with temporary (CD hours) Merciful and Cowardly discord/disadvantages. Divine interventions often result in flight and/or serious trauma (which will not disturb any children present. The Bad Man got what he deserved) and in some cases inflict the discords permanently. Infernal interventions mean the person is free to continue, and need not roll again. By spending 1 essence, the bearer may immediately capture the attention of all children in their presence, and calm them. Their attention and calm will remain, regardless of what is happening around them, so long as the bearer continues to tell stories, sing songs, play or otherwise entertain them. - -Cantos- (song)* Celestial form: An intricate sculpture of notes on a stave. The notes include several which are non-corporeal in nature, and the stave itself is in the heavenly notation. It is cast in a pale gold and faint heavenly music surrounds it at all times. Corporeal form: A simple baton, such as a conductor would use, made from the same pale gold as the celestial version. Abilities: Whilst carrying this sigil, the celestial in question is considered a songmaster in all songs they know. By spending 3 essence, they may gift everyone within 10yds Singing/6 for an hour, once per day. If this singing is used to glorify god, all participants receive 1 essence at the end of the singing (which must last at least 15 minutes). - -David- Celestial Form: In celestial form, it appears as a fist-sized chunk of rough-hewn granite, with David’s personal seal stamped into it in cold iron. It is said that this rock was the first to form as the molten earth cooled. Corporeal form: Unsurprisingly, David’s sigil is identical corporeally to its celestial appearance. To the un-symphonic aware however, the seal appears only to be a dark and indistinct discoloration in the rock’s surface. Abilities: For 3 essence, the bearer may touch the sigil to a surface made of minerals (including Glass, Brick and concrete) and receive a rapid (one round) vision of everything that has happened in the immediate environment in the last 24 hrs. - -Dominic- Celestial Form: A mahogany gavel, burning with pure-white flames. Its handle is wrapped in an intricate silver design, and each end of the head is set with a gemstone. One side has a flawless diamond, and the other a deep red ruby. It is this gavel that Dominic uses when pronouncing sentence. Corporeal Form: A battered and chipped gavel, made from dark wood, and showing signs of much use. It none the less radiates a powerful aura of compassion and justice to the innocent around it, and a palpable sense of abject terror and wrath to the guilty in its presence. Abilities: By spending 2 Essence, and striking the gavel against a solid surface, whilst calling for silence or order in a loud voice will force all who hear you to stop and stand in silence, and listen to your pronouncement. - -Eli- Celestial Form: Formed of primordial clay, Eli’s sigil is a complex and ever changing structure that seems at times to mimic DNA, or crystalline structures, or the weavings of galactic superstrings. Corporeal Form: Anything. Literally. In whatever form it takes, it is still obviously the Sigil of the Archangel of creation. It’s possessor will feel an undeniable urge to create, artistically or otherwise. Abilities: By spending 3 Essence, the sigil can be coaxed to produce any corporeal object of up to 10 Lbs weight, which will function perfectly. A gun will fire, a baloney sandwich will fill you up, a bottle of Bourbon will get you drunk etc. the construct lasts only a day, although any further effects it creates (bullet holes in a demon for example) remain. The item is also a Relic/0 and identifiable as such. - -Gabriel- Celestial Form: A 2ft sphere of blazing flames, within which an iron carving representing Gabriel’s name slowly rotates. In his capacity as chamberlain, Soldekai is the angel most commonly seen in possession of his mistress’ symbol. Corporeal form: A ring of burnished gold set with fire opals and at its centre a large ruby which seems to burn with an inner fire. Abilities: For a mere 7 essence, the bearer can summon the holy wrath of divine fire. A searing globe of yellow-white flames will envelop the bearer and everyone within 20 ft, causing no damage to either property or persons, unless such a person would appear as cruel to any of her choir’s senses. In this case, they suffer D6 hits (in the appropriate realm) per round, which ignores protection, until they flee the area. Incidentally, those Demons who are exposed to the flames and are not consumed because they are cruel (a rare few indeed) often seek redemption, with a high success rate. +Note+ There are no costs/relic breakdowns for these for 3 reasons. 1) i dont have my LR to hand. 2) I cant be bothered trying to price them because 3) these are macguffins. The two angels stood on top of the high rise looking down at the building in front of them.  The sun was just beginning to lighten the sky and they had perfect cover.  They had not moved from this position since last night and both were quietly grateful for the fact that neither of them needed sleep.

One of them was staring down the scope of a rifle.  He was in a textbook perfect prone position that gave him the most stability.  The other was lying next to him and looking towards the adjoining building with a small set of binoculars.  He glanced down at the shooter and spoke softly.

"Target is heading towards the roof.  He'll be in range within thirty seconds."

"Who else is there?"

"No one.  He's alone.  Once he's out the door, it's a clear shot."

The door to the roof on the other building opened and a huge, well-built man stepped out.  He looked around the area with the air of someone surveying his kingdom.

The Mercurian with the binoculars nodded at the shooter.  "He's in the clear.  He's yours."  An instant later, he heard the whispered phrase that the Elohite always said before firing.

"I bear you no malice.  May you find the light of God."

The Elohite took a deep breath and his body relaxed.  The shot exploded out of the rifle and went through the demon's head.  An instant later, the crack of the round was heard.  Once the shot was made, the two angels crawled backwards towards their exit, stopping only to remove the shell casing.  Once they were inside the building, they hastily broke the weapon apart and put it inside a case.  After they were on the freeway, the Elohite took out a cell phone that was in the glove compartment.

"Jessica?  The Seneschal is removed.  You may contact the other side to begin negotiations."  He snapped the phone shut and leaned back in his chair.  The Mercurian looked over at his friend.

"Jessica is that Mercurian of Michael's you were dealing with, right?"

"Correct. She found out that the Seneschal there was not very well liked.  If he was removed, the demons in the area would be more reasonable to deal with."

Laharoi

Elohite of Flowers

The Angel of Snipers

Coporeal Forces: 3 (Strength 4 Agility 4)

Ethereal Forces: 4 (Intelligence 6 Precision 10)

Celestial Forces: 4 (Will 7 Perception 9)

Skills: Fast Talk (3), Move Silently (4), Tracking (3), Ranged Weapon (Rifle/6)

Songs: Form (Corporeal 2, Ethereal 5), Healing (Corporeal 2, Celestial 3), Motion (Celestial 3)

Attunements: Elohite of Flowers, Malakite of Flowers, Nothing But Flowers, Vassal of Flowers, Angel of Snipers

Angel of Snipers: When taking a shot at one designated target, Laharoi can mask any disturbance from use of Songs or damage done by his shot (In gaming terms, this means once per game).

Yes, you read correctly.  One of Heaven's best shooters is a Servitor of Novalis.  The cognitive dissonance this causes usually settles down after a few hours.  The logic behind it was unusual but it seems to work.

Laharoi is dedicated to the idea of more peaceful resolution of conflict.  But there are times when violence is the only option left.  However, many conflicts can end with one well placed shot far more quickly than flaming swords at close range.  These are the situations that Laharoi is sent into.

One thing he is NOT is an on call assassin.  When he is asked to perform a mission, it is with the understanding that the target is a demon or unredeemable Outcast, that more peaceful methods have been tried and that removing the target will not cause more problems than it solves.  If the mission involves killing a human, Laharoi has a list of Soldiers and Saints of War and Fire that he has trained personally to handle the matter.

Other Servitors of Flowers are polite to Laharoi, but his chosen path and somewhat reclusive nature makes them rather uncomfortable.  The only angel seen regularly in his company is Matthew, a Mercurian that functions as his spotter when they are hunting a target.  Servitors of War treat him with respect and it is whispered that Michael has an open offer should the Elohite decide to leave Novalis' service.  But the Elohite is quite content in serving the Archangel of Flowers having reached the conclusion that peace is far more preferable than war.

Thankyou :) like i said, i'm having a lot of fun writing these, and yes, i will do the demon prince's icons too (although their powers will be much different from the angelic ones) and then, to finish it all off (and bring it back to the topic that inspired it) i will be doing some detail on lucifer's sigil, along with some plot seeds for it. well, thats the plan anyway.
