Guess I'll start part II: Remembrances: Plot Hook ************************************************************************** "Out there, in the dark twisted alleys of the city, there lurks a fearsome beast. A beast which ravages the defenseless, preys on the innocent, and seeks to consume all it touches. This beast is named Crime, and it must be fought. I am the crusader for the people, the warrior which will draw his blade against this monster. For I...am...JUSTICE MAN!" -- Alexander Bonn a.k.a. Justice Man Well, perhaps Justice Boy would be more appropriate. Alexander is only 15. But, well, when you find out you're a superhero, you kinda want people to treat you like an adult. Sometime ago, Alex was just another slightly-nerdy high school freshman, who happend to be riding his bike through an area of very high Symphonic Disturbance (this, of course, would be the last major incident the PC's were involved in). As he was pedaling, a drunken driver forced him off the road. Which was bad, considering he was pedaling over a bridge at the time. His bike slammed into the guard rail, and Alex pitched forward and straight off the bridge. He remembers screaming as he was about to hit the ground. But he didn't. When he opened his eyes, he found that he was floating. When his heart stopped pounding, he found he could move without touching anything. That is when Alex realized he was a SUPERHERO. Did I mention that Alex reads a LOT of comics? >From that day, Alex was determined to learn exactly what he could do, so that he could use his new found abilities for the benefit of mankind. So he began practicing, as much as he could in his spare time. His grades are suffering because of it, but, really, what's more important: Saving the world or algebra class? Alex was heart-broken when he realized he could only fly in short bursts before he was too exhausted to continue. It wasn't really fair; the heroes in the comics got to fly around as much as they liked. Alex reluctantly decided that he had to be conservative with his powers. Yes, powers. Alex is nothing if not determined. Already he has figured out that he has: -- Justice Sense (aka, Symphonic Awareness; Alex thinks the noises he is hearing are warnings that crimes are being committed) -- Flight Power (aka, Corp Motion/4 (will max out at level 6 through practice) -- Healing Factor (aka, Corp Healing/1 (max /5) -- Invisibility (aka, Eth Form/2) (max /6) He figured out Corp Healing (excuse me, Healing Factor) when he broke his arm trying to see if he had super strength (note: Justice Man does NOT have super strength). He has also figured out how to regulate his power reserves (Essence). In addition to practicing his powers, he has be conducting what he considers 'serious physical training' in his backyard. Picture a weird obstacle course, with all sorts of strange moving devices put together from discarded lumber and kitchen supplies. (it's not exactly the Danger Room, but he has managed to teach himself Dodge/1...) Alex thinks he had figured out the basics of superhero power use, and now is itching to test them in action. His Justice Sense flares now and then, but so far everytime he has tried to investigate the cause, he hasn't gotten there in time. Well, that's going to change soon. 'Cause Alex has just put the finishing touches on his costume (complete with various crime fighting gadjets made from hardware store materials). Now that he has appropriate attire, he has decided to fly to the source of the next big Disturbance he hears, and deal out some Justice. Alexander Bonn aka JUSTICE MAN Corp Forces: 2 Strength: 3 Agility: 5 Ethereal Forces: 2 Intelligence: 4 Precision: 4 Celestial Forces: 2 Will: 2 Perception: 6 Songs: Corp Healing/1 (orginial level 5) Corp Motion/4 (orginial level 6) Eth Form/2 (orginial level 6) Not yet Remembered: { Cel Tongues/3, Corp Shields/5, Corp Charm/5, Cel Light/3 } Skills: Dodge/1, Knowledge(Comics)/5, Running/1, Throwing/1, ComputerOps/3, Engineering(Crime Gadjets)/1 (Alex thinks he knows Fighting/6, but that's really just his imagination) Resources: Crime Fighting Gadjets (most of which will not work the way he intends) How the PC's fit In: Obviously, it's only a matter of time before Alex draws a whole lot of attention to himself. Depending on what the PC's are doing, it's possible the first appearence of Justice Man will coincide with their next big Disturbance. If not, well, maybe the other sides' next big Disturbance. Alex doesn't know what he is getting himself into. Depending on how his first showing goes, he may become encouraged to continue or have his confidence really shaken. If someone should die (even a Vessel, Alex can't tell the difference), Alex will become wracked with guilt (even if he didn't cause the death) and may burn his costume and flee any attempt to recruit him. Recruitment of Alex would be a good idea. He already has six forces, and has the potential for more. Enough diligent research in the Library or Archives will uncover records of the Remembrance phenomenon. The real job for the PC's will be figuring out who he is and then convincing him that he's a lost Soldier rather than a superhero. Alex is basically a good person, so getting him Hellsworn will be extremely difficult. Also note that Alex has yet to remember four other Songs. Should a Celestial try to strike him in combat, he will probably spontaneously remember Corp Shields (provided the Disturbance is high enough). At that point he'll exclaim "Hey! I've got Invulnerability too!" and try to escape so he can practice his new power. Given Corp Motion and Eth Form, he has a good shot at doing so. Detailed examination of Alex by Destiny attunements (detailed in that it will take time and willingness to be examined on Alex's part) will discover that Alex used to be a valued Soldier of God IST Judgement who disappeared during World War I and never showed up at the Gates of Heaven. Exactly what happened to him, and whether or not Judgement wants him (and what he knew) back, are hooks for further misadventures. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 10:54:50 -0500 From: BC Petery Subject: IN> INverse Superior, The Big One -- Lucifer, Seraph Archangel of Light > But seriously, given how much of a combat monster you've made INverse > Michael, how exactly did Lucifer cast his scaly red hide out of Heaven in > the first place? Earl ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 11:50:29 -0500 From: Earl Wajenberg Subject: IN> The Uncreated Ethereals are created by human belief, but what are the Ethereals' beliefs? Well, a great many of them DON'T want to believe in the standard monotheistic metaphysic that is the IN default setting. As we know, many of them want to think of God as just a mega-Ethereal. But, if God isn't the Absolute He claims to be, who or what is? What gods do Ethereals worship? None, in many cases. But Ethereals are nothing if not varied, and some of the more philosophical ones have tried to conceive of alternate Absolute Beings. One main feature these have in common is that, like God, they are Uncreated. Clearly, something produced by something else isn't ultimate yet, and God's claim to be Uncreated rankles with many of these philosophical Ethereals. Because they are philosophically inclined, and because they are creatures of the mind, and because it is hard to make up a concrete alternative to God that doesn't look a lot like God, the Ethereal philosophers have produced ideas of Uncreated Beings that are mostly very abstract. Here are some of them: The Pantomorph The Pantomorph is defined briefly as All Forms or, more mathematically, as "the set of all sets." It is very like a pantheistic conception of God, but it includes all possibilities as well as all realites. In worship, the image associated with it is the infinite, starry sky. The personality associated with it is a tranquil font of highly mystical wisdom, heard from directly only by those pursuing deep meditative states or, for the very lucky who are presumed to carry karmas of great importance, in moments of crisis. Astrological correspondence: the Prime Mobile Alchemical correspondence: ether Kabbalistic correspondence: Keter The Abyss The converse of Everything is Nothing. Grim and negatively-toned Ethereals sometimes go so far as to personify and deify this idea. The reasoning goes that, if there is ANYTHING that could be prior to God, it is Nothingness. It is the edge that defines the shape of everything, and therefore it is inescapable, omnipresent, and, in its peculiar way, omnipotent. In worship, the image associated with it is, of course, total blackness, often in a vast pit. The personality associated with it is grim, severe, silent, doling out lessons of harsh wisdom to those who are willing to see them in the events around them. Astrological correspondence: Saturn Alchemical correspondence: lead Kabbalistic correspondence: Binah Actuality Some Ethereal are deeply concerned about their "reality." Celestials and mortals both often dismiss them as "unreal." For them, there is the cult of Actuality, the quality that distinguishes possibility from concrete being. In worship, the image associated with it is earth, or the Earth. The personality associated with it is motherly, generous, exuberant. It, or she, does not give lessons or enlightenment, but she gives strength and fertility. Astrological correspondence: Earth Alchemical correspondence: salt Kabbalistic correspondence: Malkuth Causality If God is not the true First Cause, what is? Some Ethereals answer by deifying Causality itself. This is the principle that makes everything happen. Its worshippers are concerned with process, becoming, progress, achievement. In worship, the images associated with it are all very active figures -- a dancer, a warrior, a blacksmith. It, or he, is thought to favor those who seek change, any change, good or bad. Astrological correspondence: Mars Alchemical correspondence: iron Kabbalistic correspondence: Gevurah Of course, most celestials and many ethereals dismiss these god-concepts as vain fancies of, well, vain fancies. But the idea-worshippers have counter-arguments, and some other beings find them worrisome. Every idea is a thread, somewhere on the Ethereal Plane, the ideolators remind others. Such abstract ideas are the master concepts, their threads running through all reality. ALL of it. Plenty of opportunity to pick up the necessary Forces to develop a personification. And, of course, there are rumors of encounters with these personifications. Lucifer wishes. When the final battle came in Heaven (after countless million of celestials died), it was down to mostly high powered Servitors, Superiors, and a few lesser angels who managed to stay in enough good health to not be dead or incapacitated by now. Michael was preparing to take down everyone who opposed him, when Lucifer stood up to fight him. David and Goliath doesn't even begin to describe the contrast between the two. In the end, Lucifer did not win alone. Michael was utilizing the beginnings of his new Word, and the Light of Heaven bounced off his scaly hide. It took Lucifer, Baal, Kobal, Beelzebub, Azazel, and Belial to take Michael down, and even then, it was a long shot. Baal was nearly soul-killed, Azazel was soul-killed, Kobal and Beelzebub were incapacitated, and Belial was cast aside within seconds. But they had done enough that Lucifer could focus his Word, and blasted Michael with God's Light, and it was enough to stun and blind the Firstborn. Baal took the chance to smite Michael, and with Lucifer's help they both sent him flying into Hell. --- Sirea, Free Cherub IST Destiny, Angel who Wanders, petitioner for the Word of Eternity (currently being ridden by Grapejuice, Renegade Shedite of the Game, and petitioner for the Word of Pranking Tightwads) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 10:38:40 -0700 From: sirea@softhome.net Subject: Re: IN> Demons of Lucifer Michael Walton writes: > --- Randy Finder wrote: >> What would it be like in Canon if Lucifer actually had >> Demons of his own? Javiel will always be little more than a humble, minor word bound servant of Flowers, and that suits the Offanite just fine. However, even minor word bounds are allowed some resources, like the ability to grant rites to those who would also serve their word. In his case, though, there is an additional perk for serving Coffee; you get to serve coffee. Specifically, you get a Role/6, Barista. You make coffee for the masses, sell beans, and generally work to spread the appreciation of divine bounty to the mortal world. and I hear you cry, Yes But so What?! Well, many times, when purchasing a pound of coffee, the Barista will be asked to grind it for the customer. When it is done for a mortal person, it is part of the symphony, and nothing untoward happens. However... when a Celestial does it, unless the celestial has a sufficient high role of the appropriate sort, it causes disturbance. Not much, mind you, just a couple notes that fade away almost immediately. But the angels of coffee have been told to watch out for that sort of thing. And they always have a cell phone with a local tether on their cell phone speed dial. Whats truly amazing is that the demons have yet to find the connection between ordering coffee ground, and being found out. Then again, it hinges on an Offanite (and his servitors) being subtle. So maybe it isn't all that amazing. -Daiv, Tech Writer in service to Coffee (working off last nights dissonance) - -- wireless network 802.11 transparent bamboo ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 14:37:52 -0500 From: Elizabeth McCoy Subject: Re: IN> Remembrances Part II At 10:54 AM -0500 11/12/02, Ryan M Roth wrote: >He figured out Corp Healing (excuse me, Healing Factor) when he broke his >arm trying to see if he had super strength (note: Justice Man does NOT >have super strength). Javiel also has the advantage of being one of the few angels of Novalis to be welcomed with open arms into the Halls of progress. Many Servitors of Jean feel that they can work openly on better brewing techniques without being selfish or dissonant. Unfortunately most of their coffee brewing techniques fall into the catagory of celestial technology (see http://www.sjgames.com/in-nomine/articles/new/Objects/Artifacts/jeansblend.html ) but every once in a while something can be sent down for Javiel's servitors. Unfortunately for Javiel one of the areas where she is still fighting with Sankatur (Calabite of Drugs, Demon of Coffee) is central North America. While Europeans seem to have figured out how to make coffee, the fact that there are many in central north america are willing to drink coffee now matter how badly it has been made is keeping Javiel from wiping the floor with Sankatur and his so called coffee... (The heavy glass containers that coffee is kept/reheated in in Diners and similar places is so that Sankatur has less chance of breaking it with his resonance) Randy Finder > - -- Leadership, Friendship and Service - Alpha Phi Omega ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Nov 2002 05:02:35 +0800 From: "Manny Nepomuceno" Subject: IN> The Crusade Pt IV: Drawn Blades (new fic) This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - ------=_NextPart_000_0000_01C28AD1.FA90B260 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hey, Annnnnd here's Part IV.
