Hello, digest readers. There's some problem with the digest headers wanting to fill the reply field with incorrect information. Several people have had messages bounce when trying to reply to a digest. Sorry about that. Until we get the problem fixed, here's the workaround. Post your messages to "in_nomine-l@lists.io.com" -- at least, this should work. Thanks for your patience! Derek PS Oh, and I've been told there's some sort of access problem on the digest web page. I've got our web person on it. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jan 1997 12:28:06 -0600 From: dpearcy@io.com (Derek Patton Pearcy) Subject: Re: Greetings, introductions and all that. Since you were one of the lucky reviewers to whom we sent photocopies of printer proofs, you've been looking at it for weeks while most of the people on this list won't see a copy for at least another two weeks. February 5th is our current "in store" date. In the meantime, feel free to field people's questions about the state of the game, especially where opinions are required -- your opinion is certainly more objective than my own. >* To the person who wants to do a Toon version: I'd suppose it'd be a >mixture of demons'n'angels done manga style; that way they could call it IN >ANIME. The game upon which In Nomine is based is called In Nomine Satanis/Magna Veritas (aka INS/MV). Halloween Concept, the French company who produced Toon en français and makers of Intervention Divine, a collectible card game based on INS/MV, produced a Toon supplement with excepts from Tooniversal Tour Guide, including a new offering, "In Nomine Toonis." It introduces all the Archangels and Demon Princes as Toon characters, bringing the ultimate war between good and evil to a cartoon land near you (if you happen to live in France). Although In Anime sounds pretty damn funny, too. Derek ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jan 1997 19:21:30 -0500 From: unseelie@warwick.net (...jason schneiderman...) Wow. Having looked at both the very first playtest copy (lo these many years ago) and the stuff that was until recently on the Web, I figured the roster of major Archangels would stay pretty consistent. Is Khalid still included as Nicole's Superior in "Bright Dream"? Also, the update about supplements on the Web page seems to imply a much larger group of Archangels (even important ones) than anything I've seen before. Derek, can you give us any idea of the changes in this area? (I know, I know, the book will be out soon...but I'm curious.) Walken is about the "best" movie on "THIS" subject so far... I found an In Nomine t-shirt! $20, but it glows in the dark, woooooo. I originally was turned on to angels and demons by Kult RPG (sorry for the plug) but it lacked something...so I'm awaiting the release of I-N. I also love the LOOK and have started to convert my Vampire miniatures into winged miniatures by taking various griffon, pegasus, bats, etc. wings and cementing them on the backs. I'm I going to far here? Also, for those with AOHELL, 'someone' posted Angels and Demons: The Rapture in the role playing area which is based on the White Wolf system and is pretty good on ideas. Oh, and hello. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 1997 00:49:47 -0600 From: dpearcy@io.com (Derek Patton Pearcy) Subject: Re: Khalid Very politely, Stacy asked: >Is Khalid still included as Nicole's Superior in "Bright Dream"? Nope. She's working for someone else now. You get to meet Nicole's Archangel in the "Interlude," in the book. >Also, the update about supplements on the Web page seems to imply a much >larger group of Archangels (even important ones) than anything I've seen >before. > >Derek, can you give us any idea of the changes in this area? THE ARCHANGELS Blandine, Archangel of Dreams "Some dreams are more solid than others, and Blandine's servants are charged with protecting dreamers and helping them battle their fears. The minions of Beleth, Princess of Nightmares, are her dire enemies." David, Archangel of Stone "His angels strengthen people by forcing them to endure terrible labors. David believes this is necessary if humanity is to survive the times ahead." Dominic, Archangel of Judgment "Dominic and his servants have been charged with maintaining order by rooting out corruption in the Symphony, even among angels. Especially among angels." Eli, Archangel of Creation "'Do what thou wilt,' he told [his angels], 'but be cool.'" Gabriel, Archangel of Fire "Gabriel is too unstable to manage God's armies, too disturbed to rehabilitate and too powerful to destroy." Janus, Archangel of the Wind "In a typical scenario, an angel of Janus comes to town, scopes the place out, and mayhem ensues. Actually, almost any adventure of these angels ends with, 'and mayhem ensues.'" Jean, Archangel of Lightning "He and his Servitors don't think very highly of humanity. 'But in spite of their tiny cranial volumes,' he admits, 'they still manage the occasional flash of insight.'" Jean is the Archangel of inspiration, of illumination and technology. Jordi, Archangel of Animals "Ignore the lie that is 'civilization,' the shared hallucination which humans call society." Laurence, Archangel of the Sword "Laurence is a Malakite, honorable to a fault, and the supreme commander of God's army on Earth." Marc, Archangel of Trade "He and his servants are divine diplomats, Heaven's negotiators." Michael, Archangel of War "As the most powerful angel, in mind and in body, Michael bested Lucifer in hand-to-hand combat and personally kicked his red ass out Heaven's door." Novalis, Archangel of Flowers "She is a powerful female principle; her Word in the angelic tongue resonates with tones of growth, nurturing and peace." Yves, Archangel of Destiny "Yves is not omniscient, but he knows the names of all things, everything that has been written down, and -- as Archangel of Destiny -- all the best and brightest possiblities for the world." THE DEMON PRINCES Andrealphus, Prince of Lust "Andrealphus' Djinn, who couldn't care less anyway, are the best at faking affection. They have the uncanny ability to keep a person in mental 'cuddlespace,' that post-coital afterglow during which a person is most susceptible to a demon's powerful will." Asmodeus, Prince of the Game "Asmodeus and his Servitors are Lucifer's secret police, responsible for hunting down renegades and other traitors to the infernal armies." Baal, Prince of War "His demons are sent to Earth to encourage the self-destruction of humanity and to help other demons defend against the angelic menace." Beleth, Princess of Nightmares "The creatures of Beleth defend themselves from life by becoming the most terrifying things in it." Belial, Prince of Fire "Belial would let the whole world burn before admitting defeat." Haagenti, Prince of Gluttony "The world is starving -- it must be fed. Just don't stand to close, or you might lost an arm. (Mmmmm. Arm.)" Kobal, Prince of Dark Humor "It is Kobal's talent to skillfully pervert the art of humor into mockery, hatred and despair. His demons serve Evil by turning thought into laughter, concern to callousness, reverence to blasphemy -- all in the name of good clean fun." Kronos, Prince of Fate "He and his Servitors are the only demons with a true connection to the Symphony at large, charged with perverting its workings from the inside out." Malphas, Prince of Factions ". . . but in the end, we have no allies at all. Each of us is a faction of one." Nybbas, Prince of the Media "Television has forever changed the way mankind thinks and dreams. Nybbas' plot to mold the psyches of humanity is working all too well." Saminga, Prince of Death "The Demon Prince of Death always prefers dead puppets to living mortal servants. As this might indicate, Saminga isn't particularly bright." Valefor, Prince of Theft "Ever since humanity learned to tell one cave from another, it has struggled with the concept of ownership. Valefor delights in the conflicts between those who have and those who want." Vapula, Prince of Technology "The Prince of Technology loves gadgets, and has absolutely no conscience about their side effects." The demons also, technically, have Lilith (Princess of Freedom) on their side, but not being a true demon, she's an unreliable ally. If you've played any of the prerelease playtest versions, you'll notice there were a few changes made to the final lineups. Some renaming, some shuffling, a few additions. I'd rather people take what was finally printed as gospel, so to speak, instead of being biased toward or against any Superiors as being "old" or "new" -- besides, I like the way they turned out. Actually, I couldn't believe we managed to get 26 Superiors (27, with Lilith) squeezed into the core book. It was quite a chore. We'll be introducing a small handful of new Archangels in the coming year, and just as many Princes, but we're not going to deluge you with new Superiors. We'd rather flesh out the ones we've already got. (And don't worry, we're not going to do books and books of new Choirs and Bands, either.) Currently proposed Archangels: Christopher, Archangel of Children (Night Music) Khalid, Archangel of Faith (Angelic Player's Guide) Zadkiel, Archangel of Protection (Heaven and Hell) Currently proposed Demon Princes: Fleurity, Prince of Drugs (Night Music) Magog, Prince of Cruelty (Demonic Player's Guide) Mammon, Prince of Greed (Heaven and Hell) . . . and of course, how could we forget, Furfur, the Demon Prince of Rock and Roll, the star of Night Music. And as long as I'm assembling the FAQ, any other questions? I've already gotten "what's the system," "will there be a GURPS version," and "what were some books you read" -- and no, I hadn't read all the ones the list discussed -- but what else? Derek PS Digest readers, don't forget to reply to in_nomine-l@lists.io.com -- or at least, that's what's supposed to work . . . ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jan 97 01:34:01 -0600 (CST) From: kestre1@airmail.net (Andrew Getting) Subject: Re: A hush ensued At 12:03 PM 1/20/97 EST, JOHN C DYE wrote: >A hush ensued over the In Nomine list, as those who have playtest >materials wait before speaking, fearing contridiction in the new edition, >while those without fear sounding ignorant. There will be such core supplements as the angelic and demonic player's guides, the GM screen and the live-action game, as opposed to the supplements designed to flesh out the world, the story cycles. The Revelation cycle is the first storyline, beginning in NIGHT MUSIC and ending four supplements later. >> And as long as I'm assembling the FAQ, any other questions? > >Yeah, a couple: >Is the GM's Screen all written/compiled and ready to produce? >When will we hold it in our grubby little claws? It's pretty much done. It's going to the printer in a week or two, so expect it to ship at the end of February for an early March release. >Do you have a tentative release schedule for supplements? 1 per 3 months? We're hoping one every other month. Production is starting out slow. It takes a lot to get a new RPG off the ground and running -- organizing freelancers, allocating production time, etc. Once SJ Games and crew hit their stride, you'll be seeing things on a regular schedule. Expect 6-8 IN NOMINE supplements a year, consisting of a five book story cycle and one to three core supplements. The first two years' releases (which is to say, the first two story cycles) have already been loosely organized and people are working on them. >Will S John Ross' GURPS conversion rules ever see the light of day? That's a very good question. I'll file a procurement request with my contacts in Warehouse 23 and see if I can get a copy; I think they stuck right on top of the Ark, for easy access. >Is that font (I've seen it called SkreechCaps) used on the cover >commercially available for the IBM? I can only find it for the Mac... As far as I know, it's a Mac-only font. But hey, I hear you PC people are starting to get some good software, maybe it'll show up someday. (Okay, that was mean. Though is it any coincidence that Archangel Jean looks like Jean-Louis Gassee, and Demon Prince Nybbas looks like Bill Gates? Could Vapula have servants at Oracle? Surely not . . .)
