[...] In I Samuel 28:13, where a woman (not the witch) of Endor tells Saul "I saw gods [the Hebrew here gives elohim] ascending out of the earth," the word would seem to designate spirits of the departed (from below, not from above) rather than God or gods. In _The Zohar_ (NUmbers 208b), Rabbi Isaac, commenting on the passage in Deuteronomy "And God [Elohim] came to Balaam," says: "What we have learnt is that Elohim in this passage designates an angel, because sometimes the angel is called by the superior name." In the Mirandola listing of the celestial hierarchy, the elohim rank 9th (where Dionysius gives the order as angels). In the _Book of Formation_, elohim is listed 7th of the 10 sefiroth and corresponds to netzach (victory). You *do* need a beacon of some kind to leave hell the first time: * a Tether * follow someone who knows the way * a sorcerer's summons * a Prince stuffing you into the Corpreal Realm So yes, a Shedite could go joy-riding around by following someone. But he has to get *back*. And he can't do *that* without a Heart. Or a Tether. Or following someone who has a Heart. Which means that if a Heartless Shedite is on the corporeal plane, and can't get a host before the "suckback" effect starts, he's going to start making Will rolls. If he *makes* them, he takes mega-damage in Soul Hits and Discord and all sorts of nasty stuff. If he fails, he's sucked into *Limbo*. And the only way to get *out* of Limbo is to generate a vessel. Something Shedim simply can't do. End of Shedite. Asmodeus' Servitors have great fun tracking down Heartless Renegade Shedim. Even if the Shedite can follow someone with a Heart, he'll probably get caught, and have a talk with his Prince about the virtues of obeying orders (if I'd wanted you in the corporeal realm, I would have sent you myself). And with a Tether, well, there's the Seneschal to deal with. You think the Seneschal isn't going to notice? (This is, for the most part, canon. The Tether stuff to get back may not be. I'm not sure. It makes sense to me, but would probably need ratification.) As it stands, an Ofanite in celestial form can move the check digit in miles in a single minute if it makes its resonance check. Now let's assume Joe Ofanite has 6 Celestial Forces, so that he'll fail his resonance check only on an Infernal Intervention. Then he's going to be averaging 3.5 miles/minute, or 210 miles per hour. Sure, this is fast for you and me, but it's singularly unimpressive for angels of motion. If Joe wanted to get from New York to LA, he would get there faster buying a plane ticket than using his connection to the Divine. And this is a 6 Celestial Force Ofanite! Most would be slower. In order to fix this, I would arbitrarily multiply the Ofanite speed by 10. An Ofanite making his resonance roll can travel 10 times its check digit in miles each minute. Now, with a skill of 12, he can manage 2100 mph, or a cool Mach 3. *Much* better. (And it doesn't really affect game balance, since a celestial Ofanite could already get across town PDQ, and this doesn't change that.) If you have a short explanation, so much the better. I've been mulling over write-ups for both of these cities for a non-DV campaign, so here's my two cents. Bangok is the City Of Angels in Thai (well, Krung Thep etc. is anyway) so I figured it would make a good place for Celestials to still be duking it out. Obviously, it has a lot of demonic influence, but there's also a lot of good stuff there. Seoul has probably been disastered. North Korea has lots of chemical and biological weapons and repeatedly threatens to turn Seoul into a sea of fire. Even public sources say that Seoul is in artillery range of the DMZ, so if a full scale war broke out around the world, I don't doubt that Seoul would be toast. It's possible that Soldiers of God and Soldiers of Hell might be fighting it out, but the Last Battle is over. What I had in mind here was basically war breaking out all over Southeast Asia, from Papua New Guinea to Cambodia, India to Vietnam. Some Celestials were involved, no doubt, but if the war continues now, it is strictly a human affair. > Seoul has probably been disastered. (I live here, so it is one of the >things I think about when I'm home alone and the TV is broken) It depends on whether or not North Korea wants to take Seoul intact. My view of the war is that North Korea focused its weapons on South Korea's military forces along the DMZ and left the city relatively untouched. With organized military support destroyed in both countries due to famine and exhaustion of supplies, Seoul has degenerated into a bombed-out, fought-over hellhole which the remnants of both armies refuse to surrender. Thus, a Malakite of "Communication" cameraman would always have the camera pointed in the right place to see the politician recieving the bribe; an investigative reporter will know that that slip of paper in the alley contains damageing information about an enemy; etc. Thus, The MoC would use information as a weapon.
