Dominic need not manifest. He may only contact his Servitors and get a quick report from them, manifesting only if necessary. Even then, the Servitor probably has a good idea of when Dominic is going to show up, so they can get out of town away from the other Celestials so the noise is less likely to be noticed. I've got a work-in-progress version of him as a Prince, if anyone's interested, but first, I think I'll share the basic working-class demon version... - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Screwtape, Demon of Temptation, Balseraph Baron of Fate (awaiting promotion to Prince status) The Balseraph Screwtape was one of the first generation of diabolicals created after the Fall; like the Lilim, he has no personal experience of Heaven. Early on, he discovered an especial skill at dealing with humans; he claims to have been the Serpent in Eden, to have incited Cain to the murder, to have suggested to Lot's daughters that they preserve their father's seed...and, because he's a Balseraph, nobody cares enough to find out whether he's actually telling the truth this time. He rose in Kronos' service, leading many mortals to their Fates, until at last, by sheer force of reputation, he achieved his Word; Lucifer's bestowal of it on him was seen by many as merely a necessary formality. He confidently expects that at any moment, news of his Principality will come from the Father of Lies... Screwtape's corporeal form is that of a bland middle-aged human male, usually dressed in a bland gray suit. Having done his best recent work in England, he affects a British accent (and sounds oddly like the English comedian John Cleese). Though generally preferring not to draw attention to himself, he will occasionally use his Numinous Corpus Songs to give himself features that remind young tempters of what awaits them at the Gamesmen's hands if they fail. In moments of stress, or when his Discord catches up with him, he may revert to his Balseraph form. The millennia have not been kind to him, and he now looks less like any sort of serpent than like a rather large centipede. Not necessarily. After all, demon's don't _have_ to commit crimes of Murder caliber or worse. Is Falling a crime worse than Murder? I don't think so. Oh, sure, it seemed really bad when it happened the first time. But isn't being cast out of Heaven punishment enough for Falling? Of course, it's not punishment enough for the things you do before, or after falling...And some Demons never Fell at all. Another thing. Heavenly Judgement, as I read it, only works in response to crimes the Angel suspects the Demon may be responsible for. Say for instance, an Calabim murders Dick . Earlier that day, Jane was killed by somebody else. A Dominican Elohite with the Heavenly Judgement attunement shows up, and he believes that the Calabim killed Jane. He has no idea that the Calabim killed Dick. He invokes the Heavenly Judgement attunement, to judge the Calabim for killing Jane. Nothing happens, except that the Elohite loses 7 Essence. If he'd known of Dick's death, and invoked Heavenly Judgement upon the Calabim for murdering Dick, then the glowing sword would have appeared, and blood would be shed. As it is, he's a badly-depleted Angel standing in front of a Calabim who's probably a little ticked off. Blood will still probably be shed. Or at least, that's the way I interpret it. Thirdly, If I'm not reading too much into it, Heavenly Judgement can only be invoked a set number of times, for a set crime, probably once in nearly all cases. So if the Elohite in the example had invoked Heavenly judgement for Dick's murder, and slain the Calabim, and a few weeks later, some other Dominican angel spots the Calabim in his new vessel, Heavenly Judgement for the murder of Jane won't work. Said Calabim has already forcibly atoned for that murder, and the second Angel will have to find something else to Judge him for. > >Besides possibly eventually ticking off the Big D should any penalty be made >against a Character who bangs it off whenever they think they aren't going >to need the Essence? I don't see why. It costs 7 points of Essence, after all! If you can know for certain that you're not going to need that much essence for the next week, Yeah, go ahead. Judge the man by calling Heavenly Judgement on him. Just don't come crying to Dominic when those Calabim smear you all over the wall tomorrow. > >How long does Dominic allow for his approximately once a week visit to each >of his servitors on Earth? Depends on how many servitors on Earth he has. Most of them are in Triads, so he probably appears to the three members of the Triads simultaneously. Maybe about five minutes per servitor or group tops, during which they're expected to give him the major details and pass in a report of anything that needs detailed explaining, but can wait. That would allow Dominic to have just over 1000 sets of servitors on Earth at a time, and still give him 3 1/2 days per week to attend to his own business...Assuming he couldn't visit more than one set at a time. After all, he is an Archangel. > >How long is it going to take Demons in the City to track you down if there >is the "BONG" of Big D appearing every 7 to 10 days? If you can schedule it that you're on a freeway, or out in the country when Dominic shows up, you'll probably be fine. After all, very, very few Demons would feel comfortable just barging in on a +20 disturbance. The echoes will emit from the location, and from the one who caused the disturbance...which in this case, would be Dominic. As long as the servitor gets out of the location from whence the Disturbance radiates, Demons who do show up will probably not be able to distinguish you from some run-of-the-mill human. > >Thanking you for your indulgence. A suicide run on some resource of Hell is one choice. Another choice would be to allow the angel one last chance to serve Heaven. By the power of rites only known by a Superior, the wayward Celestial could be reduced to a single skill (i.e. Talismans) or a single song (i.e. Relics & Reliquaries). The origin of such artifacts would guarantee an incredible power level (e.g. 4+). It could also explain just how Reliquaries generate essence (by using the angelic resonance). Since they are, in essence, preserved Remnants, I would imagine that Superiors would only grant them to their best servitors. This origin would also help explain the stories of haunted swords, willful pens and blessed goblets. The main reason for their existence is to help prevent whatever caused the original Discord. Is your site listed but appearing way down on the hit list "out of sight" despite perfect keyword matches? If the answer to either of these questions is "yes" then you need to order a copy of Did-it's Search Engine Secrets. In this comprehensive report we tell you exactly how to design or modify your html to improve the position your site appears on search results listings. We do this by exposing the hidden logic used by the engines to determine search relevancy. Here's just a sample of the inside information revealed in "Did-it's Search Engine Secrets:" Alta Vista - References first 30 words on page for description unless you use META TAGS. Alta Vista determines the priority of matches by indexing the words closest to the beginning of the front page. Infoseek Indexes the first 200 characters of your site after the HTML tag unless you use META TAGS in the creation of your site. Your description can include up to 200 characters of text. The Lycos engine compares each page to your query and gives higher scores to pages that contain the words as you typed them into your Web Site. It also looks for pages that mention these words early on, rather than far down. Yahoo searches for words in URL, title & description (<25 words) YOU ENTERED when submitting URL! Webcrawler - Webcrawler computes its confidence rating by considering how many times the terms in your search occur in that document. The more frequent, the more relevant. Even if you utilized any or all of the above suggestions, I'm sure your results would improve. Do Servitors of Gabriel gain Dissonance while in Heaven for not punishing there assigned class of sinners? If so it could mean that almost _all_ of Gabriel's Servitors are on Earth _all_ the time, not good if something nasty comes out iof the Marches, tho I guess the Malakim would still be at home. Just "being a demon" wouldn't cut it. Actually I hadn;t thought of the accusation part, tho it makes sense from Dominic's dissonance. If you aren;t going to propose a crime you can;t really expect to get any punishment as being fair. >> How long does Dominic allow for his approximately once a week visit to each >> of his servitors on Earth? > >Probably no more than a few minutes, unless something unusual has come up. Other things I thought of were to have the meeting always be in a tether or allow Dominic some other way to communicate without manifesting, but I like the idea of the Big D walking in every now and then. Specially if the player has been getting the 2:34 am tuesday appointment for a few months and then there is just a huge disturbance around the corner one day and while the characters panic Dominic strolls around the corner :) . In the letters, he describes himself as "an under-secretary of a department," and even given that, in Screwtape's terminology, "under" might mean of GREATER rank, I don't think he'd be one step away from Prince. He makes more than one reference to "spirits far deeper down in the Lowerarchy than us." I'd make him a Knight. His luckless nephew, the late Wormwood, was just a "junior tempter," and so I think would have been an entry-level 9-force celestial. I suppose he was a Balseraph, too, but "tempter" would be a natural occupation for an Impudite, wouldn't it? Aren't they subtitled "The Tempters" in the book? I would personaly say NO. I think you would seriously have to screw up to get Dissonance in Heaven, and if you did it would be MAJOR bad juju.
