A fantasy fiction trilogy which has been around for quite a while and providing interesting In Nomine-related reading are three books by R.A. MacAvoy titled "Damiano," "Damiano's Lute" and "Raphael." They're available from the Sci Fi Book Club as "A Trilogy for Lute." The first concerns a human sorcerer in pre-Renaissance Europe who is befriended by the archangel Raphael, who serves as his guardian. Needless to say, there is a very good (or would that be very, very bad) reason why an archangel would choose such an unlikely mortal as a ward. Needless to say, there is a confrontation with Lucifer somewhere. The second book takes up later in Damiano's career, where he's given up magic and is in search of peace, with Raphael looking out for him still. Lucifer has other plans, though... The third book is especially useful for IN GMs and players, as it focusses on Raphael, captured by Lucifer, stripped of his divinity and dumped on Earth to fend for himself. This time, Damiano provides some supernatural guidance... Unless some were cut to make room for other material, there should be six Tethers in Austin, and they're not even all in Austin. Enchanted Rock, one of David's Tethers, is about a two-hour drive away; the Hill Country Catacombs run beneath the city and much of the surrounding area. The others are in the city proper . . . but there's certainly not twenty. Whoever told you that should've pulled the other one while they had the chance. Au contraire, ma frere... not only do you have the aforementioned Impudite of Vapula, but you can buy yourself a familiar, which acts like a little storage battery, too. The canonical "familiar" is a 4-Force Reliever, Imp, or Gremlin, which would give the PC another 4 Essence to play with, if the familiar was filled up, of course. Any Impudite worth the name will be able to leech Essence from any nearby humans on a moment's notice, too... if your Impudite goes into a crowd and *doesn't* come out filled with Essence, he's not trying. Michael Teamwork is essential... it gives them someone else to shoot at. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Jun 97 12:57:13 UT From: "Hermes Trismegistus" Subject: RE: IN> Meow! I also found a piece of interesting literature. It is called "Book of Angels" it is put out by Caliber comics. I don't know wheter it will be be an on-going series or not, but the first issue is rather nice. It has lists of angels both fallen, and non, plus Angelic orders, and a short bibliography. If for nothing else the art work is good. Shadowcat All cats may look upon a king. Maybe if someone has created any Tethers, seeds, etc for London, if they didn't mind me using their stuff, I would greatly appreciate it. Looking at the inside back cover, the page labeled "back issues", I would say it is a continuing series, though apparently under the title "The Apparition". I agree with Shadowcat--it was a nice comic, and the art is worth the price, even without the stories and the reference stuff. I think I am going to have to go backissue dumpster diving at the comic/gaming store I favor. tom t. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Jun 1997 09:25:29 -0700 (PDT) From: Dennis Castello Subject: Re: IN> London info >Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any IN info for the London >area? My recomendation is that you go out and buy an Eyewitness Travel Guide on London. This brand of travel guide seems especially well-suited to doing double duty as a gaming aid thanks to all the pictures, maps, timelines, etc. A very pretty book with lots of useful info. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Jun 1997 11:44:40 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason Durall Subject: IN> Ofanim to Calabim? Any theories or an official word why Ofanim and Calabim (their fallen analogs) have Celestial forms which are so different? All the other published Choir/Band Celestial transformations are far more subtle and cosmetic (a Mercurian to an Impudite, for example), while fallen Ofanim go from being "giant wheels of holy fire" to "nasty, grubby, leering demons, red-faced and bat-winged." This, to me, is a major difference. On the other hand, their Corporeal vessels don't differ all that much... _________ Jason Durall triton@seanet.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Jun 1997 23:15:54 +0100 (BST) From: maya@tcp.co.uk (GR Cogman) Subject: IN> What do Celestials do on Saturday night? Just got back from the local comic shop (Golden Age Collectibles, Seattle's Pike Place Market, in case anyone's wondering) with a copy of "Book of Angels" (Caliber Comics, $3.95). Some thoughts on it: There are two different covers, one a brightly colored closeup of an angel and the other darker and more somber with a picture of an angel holding a sword. There's a short introduction by James Pruett, then a comic story called "The Apparition" about an angel saving two people from a ship's sinking. Apparently, the Apparition is the focus of a comic series by Caliber, concerning an angel named Adriel and others. Following this is a prose short story in the form of surveillance reports somehow concerning angels (haven't read it yet). The main reason for my recommending the comic is the third section, a big one with a variety of artists' interpretations of the archangels, alongside some classical knowledge about each. Covered are Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Sariel, and Raguel (I'm fondest of the depiction of Uriel). Following these worthies is a section on Angelic Orders, describing Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominations, Virtues, Powers, Principalities, Archangels, and simply Angels. Two cool illustrations by Bernie Mireault ("The Jam")accompany this section. Then there's a section on Fallen Angels, with a straightforward listing of over 50 of the Fallen. For the price, it can't be beat as a quickie reference to the genre, and might springboard some imaginations. _________ Jason Durall triton@seanet.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 1997 18:04:21 +0100 (BST) From: maya@tcp.co.uk (GR Cogman) Subject: IN> Gotham City (don't ask) And tonight, in Gotham City..
