Forgive me for not searching the digests to determine who suggested this, but I thought it was a supreme idea. I've wanted to use unusual things like Tarot cards, runes, or other not normally seen props to spice up a game. Unfortunately I'm not all that familiar with the meanings of all that tarot cards. Could someone point me to a good reference, or if the person who suggested this idea has some writeup of destinies and fates for each card, or even just some of them, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. - -Tim ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Jul 1998 11:23:14 -0500 From: Earl Wajenberg Subject: IN> Kabbalah Martin Arnold asked about Kabbalah data. Here are two Web sites: http://www.acs.ucalgary.ca/~elsegal/Sefirot/Sefirot.html (with a nice rundown of the Tree of Life) http://annex.com/karl/occult/qblfaq.htm (which has some nice stuff about angels) About Metatron being the Angel of Death -- Metatron is one of the most popular figures in Kabbalism and has been given just about every role imaginable at one time or another. Other popular ideas about Metatron are (1) he is the Antedeluvian sage Enoch, who was snatched bodily into heaven and, on this hypothesis, transformed into one of the mightiest of angels, and (2) he is a sort of grand vizier of heaven, his name being Greek for "beside the throne." Earl ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Jul 1998 09:52:01 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Bowman Subject: IN> A question & a possible erratum I have a question on the Elohim's extended resonance. Can an Elohite have resonanted on multiple people? On my initial reading I thought not, but upon closer reading it appears they can. What I'd like my character to do is use this extended resonance on all of his fellow party members. Then, if someone disappears, or doesn't show up, then I'll spend a point of Essence and make a resonance roll to find out where s/he is. Of course this particular knowledge of where they are would go away when I use my resonance again, but I assume I can know as many people as I want, I can only locate one at a time. Right? The possible erratum: Under Yves' Choir Attunements is says that they all provide information without taking into account celestial influence. Yet in the Mercurians' Yves entry in the APG it says they can use their resonance to pre-identify people that celestials are going to be screwing around with. I suspect that isn't correct, since they should be getting a mortal's fortune without celestial influence. I'm not sure if the errata for this have been posted on the web, but that's not quite accurate. Ethereal spirits whose vessels have been killed go to the Marches. Celestial Children of the Grigori whose vessels have been killed go to Limbo. First of all, Jane Lyle has several excellent books out on the Tarot. I've always used her references. Also, when you buy a deck of cards, a little instruction book almost always comes with it. Or, even better, buy a book/cards set; that will tell you more about the individual deck you've purchased. But, if you're creative, you don't really need a book. Tarot cards and their meanings really tend to be based on the picture on the card. The picture tells the story of the card, tells the meaning, etc. So, you can do your own without the book. If you're going to do it this way, I suggest buying either the Rider-Waite or the Hanson-Roberts decks, since they're the most clear. And finally, I located a Web page with not only a tutorial course on reading cards (I didn't look over the lessons, so I can't tell you how accurate they are), but a list of card meanings. Check out http://www2.dgsys.com/~bunning/top.html and see if it meets your needs. And feel free to write if you need more help. - - Gryph Tim Seiger wrote: > A little while ago someone posted that they use Tarot cards to determine > destinies and fates of anyone who doesn't already have one (per GM fiat). > > Forgive me for not searching the digests to determine who suggested this, > but I thought it was a supreme idea. I wasn't saying they could be *moved* there, but that if they could get some Superior to make a Heart for them, and said Superior made it *in the ethereal realm*, then it would probably work to keep it there. That's consistent with the Beleth/Blandine setup, the way I interpret it. >>>>Or are you saying that the Towers, being Tethers to the celestial, make >them special cases, and thus Dreams and Nightmare Servitors couldn't >actually take their Hearts into the Marches proper?<<< > >That would be my interpretation, yes. OK, then what I was arguing from about Beleth and Blandine wouldn't apply. But it makes it *much* harder for Beleth's Servitors to go Renegade if that's true. - ---Walter ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Jul 1998 23:33:20 -0500 (CDT) From: Shadowcat Subject: Re: IN> [Humor] Song Lyrics On Wed, 1 Jul 1998, Emily Dresner wrote: > > Song Lyrics - > > And background guitar played by me on my old beat up Kent Acoustic. > > FIFTY WAYS TO MURDER FURFUR > [To, yes, Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover by Simon and Garfunkel] Sorry, but Art Garfunkel did do this song.. it was a Paul Simon solo.
