You could get a lot of your friends to chip in, or borrow from some sort of Essence bank... Mammon must be Hell's major Essence broker. Marc on the other side, of course. I imagine you could buy a new Force with a "down payment" of Essence plus regular installments... say, 5 now plus 3 a week for a year. Seems like a pretty good deal for a new Force. Of course, Hell would have various sorts of methods of enforcement -- Geas-hooks and Djinn attunements. And one really shudders to think what the penalties for default might be like. It even adds more background, distinctions, oaths (even suggestions for your characters to take when serving a particular boss! nifty keen!), attunements, and all kinds of cool stuff. At first I was miffed because it seemed like a compilation, rather than original material, but then I realized the value of having an entire superior in one book, and then I read all the cool new stuff. It also gives variations (snippet ideas) on the superiors, for people who want things to be a little different. The Game Master's Guide is just cool. It's like they took all the best ideas for games and put them in a book as suggestions. It has a great Lucifer writeup. It touches on Metatron a little more. It's got great sections on religion. The timeline rocks my little world. And it's by David Edelstein (I pointed out his name to everyone I showed the book to -- "See this pretty book? See this name? He posts on a mailing list!"). The gifts just roll in. This reminds me of yet another reason I really loved the Game Master's Guide -- it finally addressed Judaism. Islam and Catholicism get lots of attention in the game, for obvious reasons, but I always had a nagging voice in the back of my head saying, "Hey! Judaism started those! Why isn't it mentioned in the books?!", and it's finally been put to rest with the Game Master's Guide. And it's not just a little snippet saying, "Dominic is an Old Testament goon", either, it's pretty good schtuff. > jo Ben ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Nov 1999 16:57:36 -0500 From: Elizabeth McCoy Subject: Re: IN> GMG, Superiors 1: Listen to your inner Mammon! Being a representative of the game and company, I myself would recommend that you get all of them, but it's not necessary. ;) However, here's the run-down. (A lot of these are IMO; this isn't the position of SJGames, just my perceptions.) The Main Book: Essential to any In Nomine game. A must-have for GMs; not necessary for players, but recommended. The Revelations Cycle: Much-maligned, especially _Fall of the Malakim_ and _Final Trumpet_. Good to have if you're completing a set, but much of the information has been reprinted elsewhere. The Game Master Pack: GMs should have this. Players shouldn't. ;) The Guides: - - Angelic Player's Guide: It's good if you're playing or running angels. However, due to many errata and a bulky ruleset, many have called for a second edition. Includes quick-create rules for angels. - - Infernal Player's Guide: Commonly regarded as superior to the _APG_, great if you're running or playing demons. Includes quick-create rules for demons. - - Corporeal Player's Guide: Commonly regarded as vastly superior to the previous two, the CPG is nigh-indispensable for GMs and players, if only for reference material. - - Game Master's Guide: Excellent. It's just barely hit stores, though, so keep an eye out for it. Obviously, this is something that GMs should have, and players possibly shouldn't. The Books Of: - - Liber Reliquarum: The Book of Relics (LR). Rules for creating relics, and advice on using them, as well as many, many sample relics. Also includes Living Artifacts. - - Liber Canticorum: The Book of Songs (LC*, Songbook). Rules for songs (including advanced skills etc.), and many, many sample Songs. Includes Restricted, Hidden, and Lost songs, as well as Choir- and Band-specific Songs. - - Liber Castellorum: The Book of Tethers (LC*, Tetherbook). Rules for Tethers, and many, many sample Tethers, by Superior and then by importance. Also rules for Seneschals. - - Liber Servitorum: The Book of Servitors (LS). The Who's Who of In Nomine. Many, many sample NPCs (and some PCs for a pinch). - - You Are Here: The Book of Locations (Liber Locorum, LL, YAH). The Where's Where of In Nomine. Many, many sample non-Tether locations, by realm (Corporeal, Ethereal, Celestial). The Superiorbooks: - - Superiors 1: War and Honor. Includes expanded writeups on Michael, David, Dominic, and Laurence (beyond what's in any previous book). Just arrived in stores, so keep an eye out for it. - - Superiors 2: Sins of the Flesh. Includes expanded writeups on Haagenti, Andrealphus, Nybbas, and Kobal (beyond what's in any previous book). Still vaguely in playtest on Pyramid; don't expect this before the end of the year. >Second, are the any Mush's/moos/muds/web based or whatever chats based >around it out there? Not that I know of (and if there are, I /should/ know about them! :). I'd like to see if I can't get SymphonyMUSH back up, though. (Anyone who can help here, please talk to me privately.) You'll want to check out www.sjgames.com/in-nomine/ORClist.html (gotta get that aliased) on a semi-regular basis; it's where all of the MUDs/MUSHes/MOOs/etc. that I know about and that agree to the license will be listed.
