As was noted over on the Pyramid board for IN... (what, was that a plug? O;> ), the GURPS In Nomine draft includes a notion of an "overlay" of a vessel upon one's true form. Since "sight" isn't corporeal in the celestial realms, you see both at once. So the Ofanite of Flowers over there is at once a girl in a daisy-print t-shirt, and a Wheel of fire. And that Seraph of Judgment is a tall fellow in a three piece suit with a bundle of papers under his arm, _and_ a long serpent-form with wings and papers clutched under a wing or in his tail. Or that bull-form Cherub also is a sturdy man holding a sword. So, well, you can see what _my_ take on it is... O;> Of course, SJ may ultimately snip that, so who knows. Superiors are, in my model of this which _isn't_ written down anywhere, even better at having an 'overlay' than regular Servitors. So you can "see" their overlay _very_ clearly, even to the point of perhaps obscuring some of the details of their nature -- especially in Hell. (How else does Kronos seem to be a Balseraph when he's not? Or maybe the 'Balseraph' form is the overlay!) So, for instance, if you're in the celestial realm and show off the _real_ Shroud of Turin to Michael while he's leaning on his axe, you may surprise him enough that for an instant, his human-form wavers and all his eyes get a little bigger. (Or maybe not, depending on if you can surprise him in your game!
