Given the close relation of friendship to loyalty, it's too bad (and maybe a little out of character) that Dominic and Laurence are hostile to Mihir. I mean, they both like loyalty a LOT. Basically it's a contest to see what exactly can be produced about Dominic and the various Archangel's (or Choirs or Demon prince's or whatnot) confessions to him. It's not going to probably be as much use as the rest of the contest's work but it might prove amusing or provide some further ideas. Or at least a big laugh. Let me start the Ball Rolling. Dominic's volumious robe moves across the floor of his cathedral as he enters his confessional booth for the reserved confessional he offers for any in Heaven who feel they need to speak to them regarding their own sin. It seemed a good idea one of his servitors (Mercy of course) to have an open door policy, more sincere would be the repetence that came from those who came to him....though Dominic noted that those who would still seek repetence were not very far gone, it was still a worthwhile idea. The curtain then parted for his first confessor. Michael: I heard about this whole confession thing you were setting up Dominic so I'd thought I'd give it a try you obtuse black robed hyena. Dominic frowned at that. Dominic: What is the sin you would like to confess my son? Michael: First of all ditch the my son garbage, GOD IS the father here Dominic NOT you. Second of all...I was prideful today. Dominic: I see, Well then... Michael: DID YOU HEAR THAT? PRIDEFUL! Dominic: Yes I... Michael: AND I LIKED IT TOO! Dominic: Ar... Michael: AND I PLAN ON BEING PRIDEFUL AGAIN! TONIGHT! WITH THREE DEMONS WHOSE HEAD I INTEND TO BASH IN! Dominic: Do you have any further sins to confess? Michael: He-who-is-like-God is fine for now thank you. Pppppppphhpt! Dominic watched the Archangel depart and blinked his one hundred and eleven eyes. Despite the poor start yesterday, he was filled with confidence. "Michael has at least acknowledged his pride and hubris," he thought, "It is a start." He entered the booth, took his seat, and opened the curtain. The room on the other side was empty, except for a scroll lying on the seat. Puzzeled and intrigued, he reached through the window and picked it up. "Dear Dominic," he read to himself, "I must congradulate you. This is a great idea! Once I found out about it, I made some time in my busy schedule and got here early. I sat and waited, tingling with anticipation like an Ophanite awaiting his first Corporeal asignment. I was going to tell you about my goals and my concerns with them, and I was eagerly awaiting your advice. "Unfortunatly it seems that you're running late, and I have to get back to work. Sorry I missed you. I'll try and make some time soon, but I don't think I'll have another opening in my schedule for another decade or so. Take care." It was signed "Eli, Archangel of Creation". Dominic stared at the scroll in his hands for several seconds, silent. Then, with a deliberate and measured movement, he began to thump his head against the wall of the confessional. Also have been exposed to Macross II, Albedo, The Arduin Grimoire, Earthdawn, Chill, and the stories that begat Wild Cards, as well as Warhammer Miniature Wars and Warhammer 40K. My favorite Archangels are Michael [a kick-ass Angel, not one of those wimpy lute-strumming, candle-holding angels -- when I need a guardian angel, I want one that demons are going to die of fright just looking at him/her; as far as going toe-to-toe with one to get at me, NO! It just ain't happening! IN's Michael fills the bill so well...] Zadkiel [guard and protect is a mission that I am all over -- IRL Security Guard], and Gabriel [sympathy and elemental affinity]. Cherubs are my favorite choir [see Zadkiel comment]. Through the list, I have contributed to IN: the Gabriel Ratchets aka the Hunting Hounds of Heaven -- they are not on the INcyclopedia, check the List archive back about June-July-Aug of '97, if memory serves; The Demon of Cancer [list archives back in May '00, after I got out of the hospital, when they removed a 3" colon cancer tumor from my gut -- last day of chemo was Friday, 13 October -- Yay!!!! Now, I just have to figure out how to pay the bills!!]. My favorite character was a character I played in the Eternal Dawn PBEM game, Felux, Cherub of Jordi, vampire reformer [that whole in-service-to-life thing that The Alpha One's Pack has going for it, IMNSHO] and guardian protector of the re-introduced Yellowstone wolf-packs. Standard vessel is a black wolf, as large as a small pony, with celestial blue eyes in all his [favors male vessels, but has a back-up vessel as a First Nation very homely looking female, Felicia] vessels. Friends with Amberiel/Amber, Malak [?] of Fire, and also to a former Remnant of Trade with a Treasury Agent role/vessel and also to a vampire who doesn't want to be one and is looking for a cure [names of these last two escape me momentarily]. I just can't quite see Novalis dunking the psychiatrist in the fish-tank as an interrogation technique, for instance. Or saying, "Bothari, execute me this man." >(Cordelia has spent the entire series *always* getting her own way, Not _entirely_, but close -- mostly because she knows when to bend and when to kick people out of her way. (Miles, for instance.) That said, I might be able to see her as a Malakite of Flowers. Though, I dunno... Cordelia just transcends celestials in that ineffable _human_ way for me. She doesn't advocate peace because "violence is wrong," but because she sees each and every person as a human first, and a potential enemy second. Recall how she discusses Vorrutyer with Vordarian -- casually wondering if his madness might have been curable had things gone differently. It's also the root of her psychoanalysis techniques (which is sort of Yvesian, in my mind) -- she dissects people and sees why they think they're doing the Right Thing and so she can't hate them. (Well, I'm not sure about the psychiatrist....) >2) Dominic = Captain Simon Illyan, Chief of Barrayaran Imperial Security Oh, totally. >Yet if Simon were Dominic, nobody would have cause to scorn Judgement at >all, unlike some angels and some players today. IIRC, Ekaterin was rather shocked when she encountered the feared Simon Illyan at Miles' dinner party... (_A Civil Campaign_) I would see that as _very_ akin to Dominic's position in the celestial society. All the other Servitors get twitchy around him, but his own people know that his fairness is unshakable. >3) Michael = Viceroy the Count Admiral Aral Vorkosigan (aka "The Butcher of >Komarr") And the "old warhorse" that everyone kept wanting to turn to, until his health _made_ him retire.... (Actually, this is another reason I can't quite fit Cordelia into Novalis' shoes -- while i'm sure that she and Novy would like each other, and have great agreements, Cordelia accepts her husband's necessary war-inclinations. Recall the dueling execution, where she _didn't_ manage to turn the course. One of the few times she didn't get her own way, actually.) > Emperor Gregor Vorbarra = Laurence(? -- still >working here, doesn't quite fit, He doesn't fit, because he's got Cordelia's memetic heritage -- her ability to psychoanalyze people down to their souls. (Which admittedly he didn't use, once, but he's learned.) He's... he's what Laurence would be if Laurence were an Elohite, I think. - --emccoy@nh.ultranet.com // arcangel@io.com In Nomine Line Editor RPG links; Random name list, Art: http://www.io.com/~arcangel/ ------------------------------ End of in_nomine-digest V1 #1852 ******************************** The material here is (C) 2000 Steve Jackson Games, Incorporated.
