Not to screw up your numbers here, but this only works for servitors _on_earth_. There's always tons more in the wings (i.e. Heaven and Hell, plus the Marches) than get allowed on the Corporeal plane. I think the Biblical number was supposed to refer to _all_ Celestials everywhere, but, then again, that was written a looooong time ago and you could easily reason that they've made a bunch more since then. Also, in one of the sources I have, it says that one "medieval cardinal" calculated that 133,306,668 angels fell with Lucifer during the Fall (one-third of the entire Host). Actually, David talked a bunch in the GMG about Celestial density and how that affects individual servitor importance. Later. Kobal waited nervously. He was sure that he was called to the Metatron for punishment. It was all his fault that all of Heaven had been unable to work for the past two days. All he had done was play on a word in something he said to Eli. Eli had started shaking and making a weird sound. Then Eli told other angels, and they fell over too. Yves had called it laughing. Kobal knew it would mean his explosion from heaven or worse. He was doomed. The upper heavens opened to him and he could hear the Metatron. "The Lord God has heard of what you have done and wishes to speak with you alone. Come up into his presence." Grabbing a hold of the bright rungs that had been laid when the first angels had exited from God's presence Kobal climbed up to the endless plain of light. He took a peak at God and then directed his eyes elsewhere. It wasn't polite to look upon the Almighty. The Metatron spoke again, but this close to God it sounded different, not as loud, "Angel of Laughter I am well pleased by your joke." "Thank you Lord." Kobal said smiling. "You may go now Kobal. And for all our sakes make sure no one ever takes themselves too seriously." There's this French comic called 666. I don't know if there's an English translation, but I guess you can have a look on Amazon. Basically, Lilith is the Princess of Hell, more or less daughter of the all-powerfull Lucyfer. The first book starts with Lilith's arrival on earth, together with some of her Captains. Then she opens the gates of Hell and starts invading earth with Hell's armies (that she now commands). But a resistance starts in the Vatican, lead by the pope and a kind of warrior-priest. Lilith casts a huge Shield around the Vatican to prevent the arrival of any reinforcements, then tries to wear the priests off. The priests finally manage to fight back once they put their hands on the holy Grail. Protected by the Grail, they just nuke the whole area and get rid of the surrounding troups. With this hole in Lilith's armies, the Resistance can spread and a new War begins... The comic itself emphasizes greatly on the sex-oriented mind of Lilith (she's obviously a long-legged big-breasted lesbian, everybody knows that...), making her a kind of mixture between Asmodeus and Andrealphus (yurk!), but the rest of the story is quite good. Hope it gives you some inspiration, Laurent. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Oct 2000 03:45:34 -0700 (PDT) From: chris carr Subject: IN> armor if someone chooses to dodge instead of resist, does the attacker still get a penalty to hit becouse of armor? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Resisting is not a combat thing, It's a Will thing, generally used for resonances, attunements, & Songs. _Generally_ an attack will clearly either be mental/spiritual, in which case Protection counts for nothing and "resistance" is required, or the attack is physical and Protection and Dodge both are applied to reduce damage taken. An artifact armor might give bonuses to resist as well as Protection, but the GM would have to approve such an item (if not create it herself). In any case where it seems either resistance or dodge would work, only one can be chosen, and Protection will _probably_ only help with the Dodge. Ask your GM in that case. The rules for resistance are found on p. 56 (Opposing Resonance header), p. 39 (The Contest header), and p. 66 (Dodging vs. Resisting header). - --emccoy@nh.ultranet.com // arcangel@io.com In Nomine Line Editor RPG links; Random name list, Art: http://www.io.com/~arcangel/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Oct 2000 10:00:16 -0400 From: Elizabeth McCoy Subject: Re: IN> Question -- Cherubim and Songs Of Attraction... Jehovah's Witnesses (I think; its been a while since I cared) believe that number is the number of human souls that will make it to heaven, come armageddon. Others consider it the host of angel's size. Or the number of truly righteous souls to live. Or the number of human souls who will attain the highest heaven, or whatever. Using it for the number of angels on earth seems perfectly reasonable; but in canon IN references imply there are many times this number elsewhere (celestial, etherial). There is at least one consideration you missed in your calculations, though; by canon there are many more members of the Horde than the Host. In the form of 7-8 force demons as well as imps and their ilk. Your numbers do not include that; and that division may not be true on the corporeal plane, as well. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Oct 2000 15:34:55 GMT From: "Charles Glasgow" Subject: Re: IN> Question -- Cherubim and Songs Of Attraction... >From: Elizabeth McCoy >Reply-To: in_nomine-l@lists.io.com >To: in_nomine-l@lists.io.com >Subject: Re: IN> Question -- Cherubim and Songs Of Attraction... >Date: Tue, 24 Oct 2000 10:00:16 -0400 > >At 9:18 PM -0500 10/23/00, Charles Glasgow wrote: > >Question -- if a Cherub attuned to another angel, and later on that > >angel had a sudden and urgent reason to find the Cherub, could that > >angel use the Song of Attraction to trace the link backwards? > >No -- besides that neither Affinity nor Attraction allow this, it's >a special case about the Djinn of Belial that allows a reverse tracking. >Which, since it's clearly a special case, can't be the default. > > >Note -- both the attuned and the atunee are friends. And said Cherub's Archangel (or same Archangel's more senior servitor) isn't available to ask? And the Cherub and Herr Bad Guy are so far out in the Far Marches that God would need to borrow Jean's radio telescope to see 'em? When I was a Witness, I was taught that the 144,000 were those humans who would go to heaven, there to live forever, in the manner most people think of people going to heaven. The 144,000 are mentioned in Revelation, chapter 7, along with an innumerable multitude of the saved. These, according to the Witnesses, are the billions who will be resurrected to live on a paradisal new Earth after Armageddon. The 144,000 are described as being "sealed" in batches of 12,000 out of the twelve tribes of Israel. Various interpretations have been made out of that, but their mention right next to the innumerable multitude makes it look to many like they are some special subset of the Saved. > Using it for the number of angels on earth seems perfectly > reasonable; but in canon IN references imply there are many times > this number elsewhere (celestial, etherial). I hadn't heard of the 144,000 being interpreted as angels. It's awkward to make it the literal total of angels, since earlier in revelation, they are seen around God's throne in "myriads on myriads" (hundreds of millions). Of course, that could work as the ratio of angels on Earth vs. those in Heaven. Later in Revelation, chapter 14, the 144,000 descend from Heaven, right behind Christ in glory, and -- interestingly enough for IN purposes -- sing a song ( a Song?) that no one else can master, just before yet another plague hits the forces of evil.
