One day Lucifer was strolling about Hell, and he came upon a Shedite sitting quietly in the Wastes beyond Hades. Lucifer stood there looking at the Shedite and the Shedite sat there looking at Lucifer. Finally the Shedite spoke, "Who are you?" Lucifer laughed. He laughed long and hard. When it was revealed it wasn't just a little joke of Kobal's he laughed harder. Granting the Word of Ignorance to the demon Lucifer chuckled as the Word dragged its owner to great power. Leaving him the Wastes as a Principality and a golden crown of Princeship Lucifer returned to the lower hells, still amused. Only Kobal was laughing. The other Princes were not amused at all. Not only had some idiotic fleshless nobody been elevated to the nobility of Hell but the fool had no idea of how politics worked. Calling for a return to the fundamentals of Hellish life he attracted many demons that wanted to be demonic. Once bound to his Word they were unable to conceive of much else but service to their Lord, his Word and Lucifer. Ril considers Lucifer a perfect infallible being. All that he does and says is absolutely true, anyone who thinks differently is clearly an unwitting tool of God (whom Ril sees behind all problems that he faces). Even other Princes and demons can accidently serve the One Above. Although Ril is old, having been in the Wastes for awhile, he has been a Prince for a few years at most. Several minor Tethers have come through, allowing him to pour his demons onto earth. For the most part he leaches off the strength of his Word, and promotes it in the goal of bringing others to the realization of Lucifer's perfection. He is unaware that promoting his Word brings him more power, he believes that Lucifer arbitrates the might of a Word. Most Princes think as a mere Servant he would be quaint, as a fellow Prince his infuriating. Dissonance Servitors of Ignorance are to destroy one source of heretical knowledge a day, failure to do so causes a point of dissonance. In addition if they learn a heretical knowledge it will never function correctly, they simply can not see things from a different point of view. Attempting to do so inflicts a point of dissonance. Ril will not clear dissonance or Discord ever, his demons must depend on infernal intervention to purify them. Anyone taking another method of dissonance removal will inflict double the original dissonance on them. Band Attunements Balseraphs When the Liars of Ignorance attempt to convince another they have knowledge that in fact they don't the check digit of the roll is multiplied by the celestial Forces of the Liar (this will apply to their resonance, but as it can apply to Fast-Talk or Lying it can be taken by other Bands). Djinn These demons can sense sources of knowledge within ethereal forces yards. They will instantly pin point the source of knowledge, how much knowledge and the sort of knowledge. Calabim (Restricted) When using their resonance they may attack knowledge. The victim resists with Intelligence in place of Strength, if they fail the check digit is how many skill levels they loose. After all the skills are lost the individual becomes confused, disoriented and further use of the resonance merely extends the duration check digit hours. Lost skills return one per hour, unless the individual has learn new things that contradict the old. Habbalah (Restricted) When inflicting Conviction (read Fanaticism) they can re-absorb their resonance with no ill effect. In addition success inflicting Conviction (which prevents the victim from thinking that anything they believe is wrong) the Habbalite adds their celestial forces to a successful check digit. Shedim (Restricted) When using their resonance to edit memories the Shedite gets to add their celestial forces to the roll. Impudites (Restricted) By pretending to have (or actually having) the same dogmas as someone the Impudite can add their ethereal forces to their resonance rolls when dealing with that subject. Servitor Attunements Bunk A demon with this may expend essence to worsen the roll of another. The roll must be one which will demonstrate some belief true. Correct For 1 essence all the heresies in a document may be fixed. What ever the writer was espousing is replaced with Ril's current philosophy, written in the same style as the original document was written. Distinctions Knight of Vision Attempts to persuade Ril's Knights of things contrary to their master's beliefs automatically fail. Captain of Truth This duplicates the Balseraph resonance for the demon. Balseraphs with it can affect twice as many individuals at once and double successful check digits. Baron of Wisdoms Anyone in doubt will instantly react with +6 to a Baron of Wisdoms because of the confidence and sureness that they radiate. In addition when making social interactions and using resonances on those in doubt the Barons gain +2 to the roll. A Baron of Armageddon is I think a very dangerous thing for all parties in hell as no one likes to be someone else's slave...even though most people are. It's entirely possible that the Demon of Corruptions own attunement is what's keeping his servitors so loyal... Or it could be used against weaker demon princes. - -Charlemagne ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Dec 2000 16:33:10 -0500 From: damienw@juno.com Subject: Re: IN> Me head hurt. Well, my point was to use Hammers of Mighty Fun to pound one or the other into shape and see what you got. The fun is using the human ability to make connections to MAKE the two fit. To alter your idea a bit and turn it around... [spoilers ahead, folks... while NGE has enough weird shiznit it doesn't really matter, if you haven't seen the series you may want to stop here, if you read your mail in high resolution... tough. You get to suffer for having a better computer. ;)] Keeping the assumptions of NGE unless otherwise stated... Like, it's well known that Baal, at least, has some friggin' wierd vessels in reserve. What if the "angels" are really demons, attempting to contact what they think is "Adam" in order to destroy humanity, bring on Armageddon, etc, etc. under the guise of alien beings... perhaps this is a last-ditch secret project of Baal, or another demon going the route of Legion and trying to buck Heaven and Hell both. Contriwise, Gendo Ikari is a human whom Lilith has tricked into organizing the IoM project, convert humans into Essence, etc, etc. under the impression that it will unite all humanity into a single mind - which it will, but not the mind he thinks. NERV, in this case, is a human-organized effort, but doubtless infested with angels (and demons) who aren't sure what's going on. The Eva units are some sort of human-created lifeform, one that is celestially aware itself and capable of performing/amplifying Songs, explaining the 'AT Field'. This scenario would wind up with celestials on all sides - some backing the "Angels", some backing the IoM project as they understand it, some backing SEELE in an order to stop it. Role: "Inga" ( Dutch sex shop proprietor/3, Status 3) Attunements: Malakite of Creation, Malakite of Fire, Malakite of Judgement, Malakite of Lightning, Malakite of War, Angel of Kinky Sex Angel of Kinky Sex 1). Kandiel looks good in everything. You could drop her in a vat of split pea soup and not make her one bit less alluring. She can even wear the latest Paris fashions and still be an active danger to people with heart conditions. 2). Kandiel can look into a human's eyes and determine precisely what that person considers a really, really good time ... whether the person consciously knows it or not. Bear in mind that the Word is "Kinky Sex", not 'molestation' or 'involuntary sex': anyone whose idea of a good time doesn't involve consenting, sentient adults is not long for this world. The angel _is_ a Malakite, after all. 3). Those favored with Kandiel's ... attentions ... will find themselves purged for the next day of guilt for their non-mainstream desires, provided that said desires incorporate consenting, sentient adults. Those unfortunates that do not are instead hammered with guilt for the same amount of time, to the point that they must make Will Rolls once an hour or else attempt to commit suicide. Yes, it can get that nasty. Rites: : Help someone learn to accept that their particular tastes don't necessarily make them a bad person. (+2 Essence) : Kill a sexual predator. Funny, one would think that Dominic would have started screaming over this one. Laurence certainly would've, but when Kandiel got her Word, Laurence wasn't even a gleam in Uriel's eye. Things were _slightly_ more relaxed about 12,000 years ago, and Eli certainly could be persuasive when he wanted to. Human reproductive behavior has always been difficult (if inherently amusing) for celestials to understand, anyway: assigning an angel to try to get a handle on those who weren't even part of the mortal mainstream probably seemed a good idea at the time. So, Kandiel got her Word, and promptly disappeared from public view. Eli, on those rare occasions when someone remembered her, just smiled and said something reassuring. When Eli, in his turn, decided to go on walkabout, it took the Triads about six years to work their way down the list to check out Kandiel. They found her running a sex aid shop in Amsterdam, completely unaware (yet not surprised) that her boss had gone AWOL. The Triad in question was confused: Kandiel certainly _looked_ like a pin-up for Andrealphus' annual calendar, but the Malakite was detecting nothing but honor, the Seraph was reading nothing but Truth in her calm statements that she was aiding Heaven, and the Cherub found herself instantly in love. The Word-bound, after 5 hours of increasingly confused-interrogation, insisted that this whole thing get settled now by just going right to the source. So they went to Heaven. The Malakite made the mistake of calling ahead: by the time they got to the Celestial Tribunal, well, it was amazing how many grinning Servitors of the Wind and War had business with Judgement all of a sudden. What happened next is the cause for many a rumor, garbled story and drunken tale at the Eighth Virtue, but everyone agrees that one hour Kandiel was a suspect for heresy and the next she was a roving agent for Judgement. Odd, that. Now, before anyone starts getting the wrong idea, Kandiel has worked out just fine as a temp for Judgement. She combines a deep knowledge of human and celestial psychology with a generally cheerful disposition: that, coupled with her extensive knowledge of human customs, make her a valuable addition to some of the more baroque investigations that Judgement deals with. She's also invaluable when Heaven has to chase down a particularly nasty sexual predator, of whatever stripe: her abilities allow her to distinguish between those who a danger to their fellow humans from those with simply unusual tastes. Needless to say, Andrealphus would be very interested in meeting Kandiel: he's said to routinely curse the fact that Malakim cannot Fall. The fact that Kandiel tends to go through his Servitors like a hot knife through butter doesn't dissuade him in the slightest: after all, they're mere Servitors. On the other hand, the Prince of Lust would much rather Kandiel stay right where she is; the idea that there's an actual Angel of Kinky Sex is delicious irony. Just one time, is all he wants (well, he wants lots of times, but one has to be practical), in any permutation she chooses. Just one time, so that when his colleagues make a barbed comment or two about this particular angel, he can lean back and smile. Of course, the Prince of Lust can't conceive of the possibility that she won't be able to resist coming back for more, but that's demonic arrogance for you. ===== In Nomine stuff: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 11/25/00 (this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Kobal, just because he's the madcamp scamp we all know and love, instructs his Servitors to go kill a bunch of people who a), really deserve it; b), have met their Fates already and are kinda a waste of space; and c), sufficiently well-known that everyone will hear about the hideously appropriate manner of their deaths. Now, normally this would bother the Host about as much as would hearing that Kronos was seen in public singing "I'm a Little Teapot", but there's a side effect: the people so being whacked are so obviously nasty that everyone's saying "good riddance" and "why don't we do the same thing to the whole lot of them?". This can be bad: after all, nobody's going to shed many tears when, say, a particularly venal, high-priced lawyer (who specializes in getting the obviously guilty released) is found with a copy of the [insert state here] penal code shoved down his throat, but if people start potshotting _all_ lawyers, why, that's a different story. The best bit, of course, is when Kobal arranges for a list of the next batch of deserving victims to arrive in possession of somebody who just won't quietly kill them all themselves (Novalis works best for this, or maybe ... no, Novalis is the best choice). Watching angels hold their noses while defending slime for the greater good is always good for a chuckle... :) ===== In Nomine stuff: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 11/25/00 (this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? If Lilith's foolish, she'll immediately broadcast the fact, thus getting Novalis in all sorts of trouble ... but you can live past trouble, and is it really worth Novalis handing over her lists of Lust's Servitors and Tethers to the Inquisition (Dominic would insist. Dominic would insist STRONGLY. Novalis might even be pi**ed off enough to not mind much)? A smart Lilith would try to make this into some kind of Geas. _That's_ a meeting I'd like to see, from a safe distance. The moon sounds about right.* :) Morgan (SAW) Kyriotate of Destiny Petitioner for the Word of It's Not Nice... *Knowing Novalis and her dedication to peace and reaching out to Hell, the only reason I can see that she hasn't already been blackmailed several times over is that attempting to do so is one of the very few things that's on the Things That Push My Buttons List. Well, I'm sure that one could come up with other reasons, but I like this one anyway. :) ===== In Nomine stuff: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 11/25/00 (this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Ooooh and i bring gifts too.. =Jeans Secret Project= Bio-Chemical Judgement Jean, whilst a studious archangel can often be out done by one of his angels. And when that happens the angel often disapears never to be seen again, or for a very looooooong time. More recently, one of his mercurians asked to be transfered to Judgements side of the fence in an 'experimental and possibly controversial' treaty of Superiors wishing to let bygones be bygones. After the exchange period had finished the mercurian came back. Some had doubts whether it was the same one as that went in the first place because he had so dramatically changed. Where once the often clumsy and lax angel had been there was now a shining example of all that is good, right and virtueous in the service of Jean. When the mercurian had drawn up a vast number of documents and theories he went to his lord with an idea. 'My lord, in my service to judgement i had noticed much that could have been improved if we, that is, lightening and justice were to perhaps work together then the whole system of judging the wrong on earth would be revolutionised. I have come to a theory on bio chemical changes in the brain, there is a way to correctly check these changes and thus see who is guilty and who is innocent!' Some days later the mercurian went missing. However he had also mentioned it to a servant of judgement, a cherub who attuned to him, and now the cherub has spoken to Dominic, who in turn wants to speak to the mercurian, but Jean claims that the mercurian in question was sadly soul killed whilst on earth. However the cherub knows better. =-= There you go. something to think on for a while, hopefully my gm will let me run that as a scenario. I don't mean, "don't usually try to kill each other when they meet": I mean, unambigiously like. I figure that, in Heaven, Superiors listed as 'Allied' tend to do the Superior equivalent of borrow money from each other, swap lies and NS,TIW* stories (except for Seraphs, of course), and generally hang out at each other's Cathedrals in their rare free moments; heck, even the Associated ones must go out for beers every so often. Whereas Allied, for a Prince, probably translates as "doesn't have a weapon ready and cocked at meetings" and Associated means "tries to make look like someone else is screwing you over". The reason why I bring this up is because all of this suggests that Hell has a profound weakness when it comes to fighting the War. If the Host ever decided to take down one Prince, they could quite possibly manage it, because none of the DPs can really depend on their allies to not bug out if it looks like the situation has gone pear-shaped: OTOH, mess with one AA and you're messing with all of them.** Something to think about, at least. There might be an adventure seed in the above rambling. :) Moe *"No S**t, There I Was". Whenever someone says that, sit back. You're about to hear something completely implausable. :) **Unless you're Gabriel, of course, but I won't be flogging _that_ dead horse today. ===== In Nomine stuff: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 11/25/00 (this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Lucifer. DPs are optimists, at least in some ways, or they wouldn't carry on - they'd just join the queue of candidates for Demon Prince of Depression. They don't really believe that the Host can defeat them. But they do know that Lucifer can take their Words away and/or set the other DPs on them (or stomp them like bugs, as it's informally known). So if a DP is believed to be out of favour with the Big L, they might let him get killed. But they'd have to be quite confident about that, because if Big L is not happy about this, he may well be *very* unhappy. So they all work quite hard on staying in favour, within their limitations. And they know that if someone appears to be out of favour, it might be a trick, since they're dealing with some of the most devious and paranoid minds in the universe. So they are *really* careful on this kind of thing. - --- John Dallman jgd@cix.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Dec 2000 11:56:13 -0700 From: Tim Groth Subject: Re: IN> Weird question Haagenti likes Kobal. I don't know how much its reciprocated but numerous times it mentions that Haagenti considers Kobal his old brother in a non dysfunctional family way. I think Nybbas and Vapula enjoy each others company, appreciate the work of the other and realize that there is almost no scenario in which the other is destroyed that benefits them. I think the same goes for Baal and Belial. I don't think anyone likes Asmodeus, Malphas or Kronos. Most of the Princes probably think Lilith is a pretty Lilim making machine and not much else, which doesn't generate good will. I doubt that the Demon Princes are particularly nice individuals, but they may have a few buddies, which of course Malphas is getting to work on. - -- Timothy, Angel of Rambling Ofanite of Creation ArchRival of Mathus If you have time to kill, why not kill it at http://ucsub.Colorado.edu/~grothtp/In.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Dec 2000 11:01:30 -0800 From: "Bevan Thomas" Subject: Re: IN> Weird question According to Superiors 4, Haagenti likes Fleurity, who makes him proud (I assume that if Fleurity managed to gain control of alcohol, that would change).
