I happened to get an odd idea for a Relic, though I don't have any of the Libers, so I do not know if this relic (or something like it) has been duplicated elsewhere. If it has, well sorry. Otherwise, it's a decent idea (in my oppinion), so enjoy. Clear Skies Zeresh, demon of New and Useless Things The Plate-Glass Universe An In Nomine Relic During the Purification wars, Uriel instituted many techniques to kill the creatures of the Marches, and they instituted many ways to fight back. There once were four tribes of Africans, each sharing a unique viewpoint on the universe, each believing that when a man died, his soul was added to an unimaginatively large amount of souls along a great cosmic beach. These four small tribes believed this so strongly that it began to cause an odd disturbance in the Marches-an entire realm was created. The realm was a large beach covered in black sand, with some white grains thrown in at apparently random points. The beach itself contained a purplish water filled with hundreds of bubbles that never popped-the souls of the deceased of the four tribes. It didn't actively pose a threat to Uriel, but he still saw it as an Ethereal creation (as it was), so he began an attempt to destroy it. It just so happened that around the same time, a young Mercurian of Creation was living as these tribes did. As their dreams were haunted by horrifying images of destruction, this young Mercurian of Creation realized he had to do something, or the tribes would be split apart with war, for each tribe believed one of the other tribes was causing the disturbances in their dreams. He spoke to Uriel, though Uriel refused to stop the attack on the small islet of dreams. So the Mercurian went to Blandine, who was horrified at the destruction of the dreams around her. She created a special artifact-two pieces of glass that could hold a dream into the corporeal world, though to this day she denies giving it. So he went to this tiny islet of dreams and prepared the ritual to trap it, for if the dream was brought near the four tribes, then they would rest easy at night. He began the ritual, but was caught by an over-zealous Malakite who interrupted the ritual by destroying the Mercurian's Ethereal form. This proved disastrous so late into the ritual, and the Mercurian, the Malakite, and the surrounding dream were all pulled into the glass. And then, it fell. It fell to Beleth's portion of the ethereal and it kept falling, straight to Beleth's tower, straight to Hell. The members of Beleth's court thought it nothing more than a toy, and in the process of playing with it, destroyed the essence of the Malakite inside. The Mercurian was trapped with the souls of the tribes, forever forced to move depending on how you held the plate glass universe. Until a servant of hers went renegade a few years ago. By that time, the tribes had wiped each other out and all the souls were trapped between the glass. The renegade brought it to earth with her and began to experiment with it, finding that essence could be drawn like mad from the thing, but she was found and destroyed before she could further experiment. It has been lost, and no one knows where it will next turn up. The Plate-Glass Universe The Plate-Glass Universe is a very powerful relic indeed, though no one knows quite how to use it. The souls of thousands are trapped inside, represented by small bubbles trapped in the purplish waters. Some are larger than others, and these represent the most strong-willed people trapped within. Each day, once per day, with a successful will roll, one of the bubbles may be drawn out of the glass. This bubble is actually a soul, and depending on the check digit of the will roll, may be quite powerful (the check digit of the Will roll determines the Will of the person drawn out of the artifact. The Wills of all inside are severely reduced because of years spent trapped inside. On a '6,' the Mercurian of Creation mentioned above is drawn out). The soul may then be implanted in an awaiting host and the person may once again walk the earth. The person pulled out will be very weak, but incredibly grateful, and while most only have 3 or 4 forces, they all have the potential to become 6-force soldiers. Also, once per day, a Will roll may be made (with a penalty of -2) to draw a random amount of Essence from the glass. The check digit of a successful roll determines how much Essence is drawn. However, if a roll is failed, the character looses the check digit in Essence to the box, and if a '6' is rolled on a failed roll, make another Will roll. If the Will roll is failed yet again, the character is pulled into the box and one of the souls will take over his body. Once again, the check digit determines how much Will the person drawn out has, and once again if a '6' is rolled, the Mercurian of Creation pulls his way out. The plate-glass universe cannot be destroyed in the Corporeal Plane, it must be brought into the Ethereal and destroyed there, by a Malakite of Purity who still believes in the quest against the spirits of the Marches. While the spirits trapped inside are not necessarily evil, the Mercurian is on the verge of Falling, and after so long trapped in the glass, they have begun to worship him as a god. Also, if they do manage to escape, they will not understand the world as it is today, and a disaster could ensue. Plot Hooks - -One of the NPCs is pulled into the glass when he finds it. He starts to act a little strange, and the PCs must figure out why. - -The Mercurian inside Falls, and Lucifer senses it. He orders a Prince to find the glass, and the Prince sends out the Demonic PCs. - -The PCs themselves are trapped in the glass (however is up to the GM), and must find their way out. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 06 Aug 2000 00:13:30 +0100 From: Omentide Subject: Re: IN> And Jordi Weeps.... > > What I want to know is, why are they feeding the animals cow meat, when > India is Hindu and cows are sacred? > >First, not all Indians are Hindus. A theoretical question that I was wondering if I should adopt as a house rule for my campaign. Because Celestials are so musically oreintated with God apparently seeing himself as a conductor and each demon seeing himself as sort of writing his own music....might it be intriguing if each Celestial by nature had some sort of affinity for the type of music that they seem to embody? A seraph and balseraph for instance would get a bonus with stringed insturments... The concept could be extended further to the Superior for the type they play. For instance a Seraph of Eli and Novalis while normally a quiet demure minister whenever he has a guitar he can light it up with some hard rock that would put some of the finest mortals to shame. Same in reverse with a Balseraph serving Hardcore being the guy who breaks a roadie's head with his guitar after an awesome jam session. - -Charlemagne ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 05 Aug 2000 22:21:24 -0500 From: Matt Trent Subject: Re: IN> Should Celestials get Music Bonus's? There are times, unfortunately, when this just isn't possible. Some targets are too well protected by the enemy, and there's always a Malakite or two around who's ready to attack open demonic assaults. Still, if you can't damn a particular human, there's no reason why you can't at least keep him from Heaven, especially if all it takes is a little cash... Clarence is one of Kronos' more subtle agents. He uses his Role as the director of a major philanthropic foundation to provide generous financial and career support to individuals. This would seem innocuous, but his list almost completely consists of those whose Destiny involves surmounting adversity in order to make a major achievement, as well as many Soldiers of God that Clarence thinks he can get away with. The remainder is either carefully vetted candidates who are deemed unlikely to be affected by the money one way or the other, or secret Hellsworn (who are presumed damned, anyway). This can have _devilish_ effects on the target. Most of the best art requires strong emotions or experiences: by giving an artist a comfortable, bland lifestyle, Clarence can blunt his or her creative talent just enough. Financial assistance can also allow a person to change careers (just before she comes up with a critical insight that will change the industry forever), residence (a week before he would have saved three children in a fire), or location (where the person of his dreams will never, ever visit). Soldiers are particularly vulnerable to this tactic, as they often are in financial straits themselves, and a Soldier who's in the middle of a move is not an efficient Soldier. Sometimes the aid will even cause someone to meet his Fate. Kronos loves that, as much as he loves anything: it happens often enough for Clarence to not get in too much trouble when the occasional individual achieves her Destiny instead. Clarence has an odd attitude towards his 'charges': he's taken on one or two of the attitudes associated with the Cherubim resonance (he would have really preferred to emulate the Grigori, but Kronos deemed it too dangerous to give it out). In an odd way, he's fonder of humans than most of his Band, and doesn't actually try to damn anyone. Just forcing them to try again in the next incarnation is all that's being asked of him, and Clarence is wary of blowing his cover by doing anything more actively corrupting. As it stands, his Role and Attunements protects him from casual scanning by the Host, and he very much prefers it that way. Clarence has also gotten into the bad habit of actually using his synthetic Cherubic attunement from time to time, which has caused him to flirt with dissonance one or two times. Kronos knows about Clarence's attitude (except for the attuning. At least, Clarence fervently _hopes_ that Kronos doesn't know about the attuning), but hasn't cracked down on him. It isn't affecting the job, and having a Balseraph that doesn't have delude himself into showing sympathy towards humans is useful. Clarence is also on good terms with Nybbas and Asmodeus, who have both used his foundation for their own ends. On the other hand, Eli will definitely wish to have a word or two with him, just as soon as he figures out why the art scene seems so bland lately... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
