Resources acts like Word-Forces currently does, for the most part, acting as a channel for Essence derived from the expansion/growth of the Word. The higher this number is, the greater the flow of power to the Celestial. Word-Control or Manipulation is what allows the Celestial to do Stuff with the Resources -- your ability to pull off Word-related miracles -- please note, this is what Celestial's use to stabilize wild tethers. Word-Identification or -Sensitivity lets you "hear" what is happening to your Word -- this allows Superiors/ Word-Bound to realize that you have been doing bad things to their Word and spot formative Tethers, though they must use Word-control to stablize it. (Mind, assume what you will. Especially whether that CD included lightbringer@tarterus.org in the list of names.) (What, don't you think Vapula gave free email accounts to the other masters of Hell? How else could he get them to be in easy contact (and, more importantly, display one of the many wonders of Tech!)?) (Hmmmm... Maybe that CD-ROM had things added to it in the address- compilation stage -- secretly, by Orc... ("Pretty much" in that Word-bound for publication should have Suggested Word Forces. For those who use 'em.) There are, for Superiors, other ways of ranking them according to GM whim. Same could be used for Word-bound. And then there's the amnesiac Word-bound who's in That Game Which I Really Want To Continue Darnit... Granted, she was created before the GMG, IIRC, but I know the player's style okay, and the system I use to model the power of her Word is... GM whim. The player asks if she can do something, I ask for a description of what she's trying to do, decide if it should cost Essence or require a roll or both or neither, and tell the player what's required. (For instance, the character was thinking about things, and -- being in a cold environment -- those things started appearing in the whisps of breath of that character. The character also Did Something during the start of a blizzard (which the other characters didn't get to see much of) -- and the shelter they took is less snowed in than some nearby areas. What's she the Angel of? Innnnnteresting question. Amnesia is _meant_ for speculating about one's character. (I should know -- I've played amnesiacs twice and might do it again for the right GM.) But even so, it means that the pair of us are free-formishly deciding what the range of the Word is, and its power (especially used in immaginative ways). After all, there are a lot of things that a Word could do that I might not have thought of. (The blizzard thing, for instance, was a use of the Word that was "border-line" to its ability, but I could see how it might work -- so I gave it a chance.) With a player who _wasn't_ doing an amnesiac, and I either didn't know that well _or_ knew prefered more "mechanics-heavy" styles, I'd rather go with Word Forces because they're unfuzzy and I can use them as guide- lines to restrain potential power-gaming before it gets out of hand. (I.e., I can _see_ where someone is trying to wheedle something, and perform GM smackdown.) And if the amnesiac gets into a situation where she needs to sling Essence around, I'll probbaly have to assign some Word Forces, for that purpose. (Mind, if they do their jobs well, they _won't_ be slinging around enough Essence for me to need to do that. I think. We'll see if the plot survives contact with the PCs.) (Maybe literally. Please, give generously. Hi everybody! I could do with some ideas (or critics, comments, insults, whatever) right now. I'm supposed to start a campaign soon, but I'm a bit short on inspiration. Here's how it starts: Some really ambitious demon has recently discovered a secret that could give him the power to rule Hell (the usual bit). He just found out that Lucifer's Heart is still being kept in the Cathedral of Light (very NON CANON bit). Now if he could only steal the Heart, he'd be able to strip some Forces from Lucifer's soul and add them to his own. It would have to be a Demon Prince to do that, so I was thinking about Mammon. Valefor would probably be as good, but I like the guy, and don't want Lucy to destroy him... The Forces he's mainly interested into are those the Light Bringer stole from Metatron during their last fight. He believes these Forces are the source of Lucifer's exceptional power (can't remember who suggested something similar on the list). The problem is that the Cathedral of Light is so filled with the light of the Upper Heavens that a Demon (even a DP) needs an appropriate cloak to get in: a piece of Lucifer's soul of before the Fall. Just think about it as a really thick sun block... The good news is that a piece of Lucifer's soul has been recently located (I like to think that lost Forces end up recycled, but not completely washed from their previous owners), trapped into the body of a little girl (the cute helpless victim bit). Sorry about that, I just saw Shanghai Noon AND Scary Movie yesterday. I'm still in shock. Unfortunately, the little girl is severely guarded by a squad of Cherubim of Christopher (maybe some of Zadkiel or Eli too). After some incidents including the death of the Cherubim squad, the apparition of Lucifer and the somehow successful kidnapping of the cute helpless victim, the players must retrieve the little girl and stop the bad guys. The Dark Prince of Hell can not get involved in the chase, as he's trying to keep all this as secret as possible. But he'll help if he can. The players catch up with the bad guys at the top of a mountain where a battle is raging. The place (they don't know it, of course) is one of the last Tethers to Light: this whatzename place in Canada from the Liber Castelorum where the sun light stroke earth for the first time. As the bad guys are fighting against the Seneschal (Servitor of Stone) and the players, the DP kills the little girl, uses her soul as a shield, and ascends to Heaven. Then things get a bit confusing, depending on what the players do. In the end, the DP should come face to face with Lucifer, get his well deserved punishment, and the Light Bringer takes his heart away into some hiding place of his, rewards the players and makes sure they keep the secret (or just kills them. GM call). Thanks for your help, Laurent. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Sep 2000 11:53:50 +0100 From: "Laurent" Subject: Re: IN> Need inspiration badly. Please, give generously. Oh yes, by the way. This is the adventure I'm using to give Lynoure the status of Princess. After all, who better than a Demon of Shadows can keep an operation secret... So if your ideas could emphasize on the Shadows & Light theme, it'd be great. My players consist of a Cherub of Creation* (attuned to the victim), a powerfull Habbalah of Nightmare working with Lynoure, a Shedim of Theft, and a solier of Theft.
