E-pistles Most Celestials are not quite sure to make of the Internet. After all, the super-rapid pace of change that the "computer revolution" has halmarked is on par with a rate of development that has not been seen since the Industrial Revolution, and everyone remembers what, or (more appropriately) _who_, came out of the Industrial Revolution. However, unlike other revolutions before, the Internet is not just a revolution that will only affect the Corporeal world. In fact, new technologies are already doing a great deal to change the way people think and the way the human mind deals with infomation. Hypertextual methods of arranging things are starting to impose the feelings that information should be non-linear in arrangement and instantly accessable. It's no wonder then, that the "e-revolution" has begun to produce some profound and often unexpected Word-shift in the Celestial realms, as the Powers That Be find themselves adapting to the new world order. Take, for instance, Yves' Ofanite Angel of Epistles. Letter writing had unfortunately taken to a rather slow death in the more modern countries of the Western world, as automated responses and junk mail began to fill mailboxes. Try as the angel might, the Word of Epistles just couldn't be made to stretch enough to accomadate junk mail and mass-produced letters. Then came the internet. Hermael, the Angel of E-pistles, has found that unexpected Word-shift can be a wonderful thing indeed. Later. My original understanding was that all animals go to Heaven, regardless. No fate or destiny questions. IIRC, there are two places explicitly mentioned in canon which have something to do with the souls of dead animals: Jordi's Savannah (duh) and Zadkiel's Cathedral. Something about the souls of faithful dogs keeping watch (the book's a good distance away from the computer, and I'm too lazy to go get it.) Of course, this *does* have some implications...if a Shedite possesses an animal and corrupts the animal absolutely (I'm having a lot of trouble describing what this actually means, mind you), does the animal somehow go to Hell when it dies? For that matter, what do servitors of Gluttony use for beef in Shal-Mari? Hmmmm. (The souls of dead Hellsworn cows? Mooooooo.) On the other hand, IIRC, Jordi's opinion on Yves in S3 explicitly mentions that angels of Destiny also work to protect and save animals' destinies... :) Manny Neps ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Feb 2001 02:07:10 -0500 From: "Charles Phipps" Subject: IN> Beelzebub (writeup) part 2 Dissonance It is dissonant for servants of Corruption to do or possess anything morally or spiritually redeeming. While this may seem like not a great problem for most demons it basically says that every SINGLE action a demon of Corruption takes is for his own selfish gain and any loyalty, friendship, and god forbid love whatsoever aside from advancement purposes is screachingly dissonant to them. A referee should be constantly out on alert to see if characters in the service of corruption are possesing virtues of ANY sort and punish heavily if they think they're showing them even for a second; this includes guilt, shame, and regret. Prayer is particularly abhorent to servants of Corruption and any prayer to the Almighty, excluding Habbalah rants to an evil and judgemental God that does not exist immediately inflicts two points of dissonance. Thankfully Beezelbub was on most cases just willing to allow his servants to wallow in particularly vile excess for a few weeks to rub off any dissonance but a servitor who aquired more than three points was instantly and irrecoverably slain and no servitor of Beezelbub survived to be redeemed as Beezelbub kept all servitors hearts in his personal vault while he was alive. Servitor Attunements Beelzebub's servitors are the classic tempters of old as they lead mortals to their fate using every imaginable trick in the book. Unlike Kronos who has since subsumed most of Beelzebub's duties to degrading the human spirit as a whole, Beelzebub's servants did not possess knowledge of the Symphony to help them determine what would get a mortal into Hell and thus simply had to make them as horrofically corrupt and vile as possible. Their attunements reflect this goal. Balseraphs Balseraphs of Corruption are the most insideous tempters in Hell as they can use their attunement to pursue their desires with their ethereal forces added to their celestial forces. The Balseraphs served as counselors to the ranking nobility in Beezelbub's realm for the Prince did not trust them to be promoted very far compared to other Princes. Djinn The Djinn in Beelzebub's service outnumbered the other choirs combined as the selfish apathy and desire to be adored and cared about that was the necessary method to avoid dissonance in the Prince of Corruption's service was the natural way of the choir and they often rose to high ranks given that the Lord of the Lies preffered their company to the other bands. Djinn of Beelzebub can sense the weaknesses of their attuned morally, spiritually, and physically as long as they're attuned to them and were masters of letting mortals destroy themselves. Habbalah Habbalah can inflict an interesting emotion on their targets in the form of Selfishness. The human will act for the the next hours equal to their check digit as a sociopath caring only about pampering their own needs and obeying their whims over the needs of the majority indeed. Habbalah were fairly rare in Beelzebub's service and those that were usually were members of elaborate religeon's which worshiped him as God reborn or some great liberator for Heaven. Lilim Beelzebub was utterly contempteous of the Lilim and considered Lilith nothing more than a human of considerable power. Still Corruption was an attractive word for the Lilim and Beelzebub made sure that any foolish enough to enter his service were trapped inside it for as long as possible which usually meant their existences's span. Still a number with geas and favor trading did quite well for themselves to the point the Prince of Corruption fell. Lilim of Corruption can choose one of the Seven deadly sins in which all geas they do may add their ethereal forces to geas checks upon (as one might guess lilim who chose lust, greed, wrath, and sloth swiftly found new homes). Shedim Any discord which a subject has is added to a Shedim's roll to use him as a host. If the number of discord exceeds three the Shedim's celestial forces may have their corporeal forces added to the roll! Shedim of Corruption were many if not as numerous as Beelzebub's Djinn and rejoiced in driving mortals to the most descicable acts imaginable. Oddly Shedim of Corruption were more intelligent than most Shedim it has been noted and routinely possesed circles of cultists who were all equally decadent bringing groups to their fate as they worked together, serving as "divine spirit". Impudites Impudites of Corruption do not need to roll to steal the essence of someone engauging in an act of Corruption whether debauchery, murder, selfish torment, or some other act of cruelty. Servitor Attunements Sense the Secret Sin This ability allows a demon with a sucessful perception roll to scan through a human's lifespan and look through the various sins he has commited in his own selfish gain and how he feels about them now. This immensely powerful resonance proved one of the greatest aids the followers of Beezelbub had to gaining power and bringing souls of weakness into their fold as they prayed on past guilts they knew about. The Pandering Markets Dominic would certainly not appreciate the comparison but this is effectively an attunement very similar to incarnate law attunement but it is so. The attunement grants it's possesor with a sucessful perception roll knowledge of what vices are tolerated/intolerated a region and where the greatest concentration of corruption is within an area on a 6. Muffle Disturbance This ability effectively with the expenditure of a point of essence per 2 point of disturbance can reduce the sound of disturbance in an area by the level being expended which while not extremely effective and often costly can occasionally make acts of merciless corruption less percievable. Using this attunement also makes it nearly impossible for servitor of Uriel to use perfect pitch as they must overcome a resisted will roll with the demon to identify it. Phantom Discord The power of Archangels and Demon Princes is to inflict discord but with this resonance a demon of corruption can temporarely emanuate the practice on both mortals, demons, ethereal angels by bestowing a point of any type of discord on a subject with the expenditure of an equal point of essence and a resisted will roll. The dischord capable of being inflicted is only equal to the ammount of forces a demon posseses in the appropriate type and lasts but a single day. However demons of Corruption practicing their rites can bestow their for long periods and often did...leading the righteous down slow paths to destruction. Distinctions Knight of Temptation The Knight of Temptation are able to detect at a glance any pure hearted being within 10 yards times their celestial forces. This includes all angels who are by their nature no matter how discordant selfless beings with the exception of the half-legendary Dark Malakim. Captain of Sinful Behavior The Captains of Sinful behavior were gifted with a bizzare ability due to their associations with the Cults of Pan. The demons can play a song that can immediately heighten the current emotions in hearing range to ectastic levels whatever they are. It does not have to be music but can be any number of sustained actions but the legend of fiddling continues... Baron of Damnation All Princes make use of soul-pacts with Satan but few are able to invoke their Princes will with almost perfect accuracy to doing so and truth. This ability allows vices to be conjured in accordance to a sinner's desires if he signs over his soul in an agreement. Effectively Beezlebub will grant the appopriate price such as wealth, beutiful consorts, and the like to any mortal who is willing to capitulate to the pact though he usually insists in the contract that they use the wealth to ends of corruption if the requests are very extravagant and he has been known to smite already corrupt souls who try and make such deals (and the demons who waste his time). Needless to say even if a small favor is done Beelzebub is going to rain unholy wrath on a demon who doesn't deliver the soul after death to him as well, the Demon Prince of Corruption loathes the angels of Final Judgement who send souls away from him won by contracts that they repent of. To that end Beelzebub has the petty tyranny of inserting rules to instantly remove all wealth and kill those who repent of their sins and those who are willing to sign over their souls usually are willing to agree to such terms. This ability is of course useless after Beezlebub's death but certain Princes have been known to honor the rank on occasion in addition to their normal pact. Relations Beelzebub is a figure in Hell of the distinct "old school" of evil that correlates that demons are fallen angels and they're goal is to take over Heaven, debase God's handiwork, and win souls to damnation. To this end Beelzebub had a hatred for all the Princes that arose after the Fall and held in his heart a special contempt for Hellborn and those who most frequently opposed his well. Gebnubath as the leader of the vandals was an arrogant upstart and all that he depised in hell though Gebnubath was never fully aware of Beelzebub's treachery against his servants and usually Beelzebub was able to pin it on Andre. Usually the Lord of the Flies took the appearence thus of the maggoted being he was transformed into long ago but dressed himself up in amazingly flamboyant and beutiful robes and togas befitting the finest of Emperors and magicians. Another odd form is that of a fly in which he whispers in his servant's ear. It's been touched on how Ethereal Gods were at one point powerful enough to rival a minor Superior - might be interesting to see just how far that can be taken. 2. If a Superior died, and no one was appointed to take over their word, there's still a lot of ambient power in that concept running through the Symphony. There's always going to be someone smart enough to capitalize on that. 3. If you think about it, it's rather unlikely that either the Seraphim Council or the Morningstar would ever fill the word of Knowledge, as it would seriously cut into Yves and Jean on one side, and Vapula (and heretically, Beth) on the other. Be posting later tonight... Choir Angel: Aequalis automatically succeeds in any attempt to use his Resonance with a CD of his choice. This circumvents all blocks and shielding methods. This will override a Superiors block unless they are actively thwarting his Resonance. Angel of Balance: Aequalis is connected as a Cherub to all Elohim within the Symphony. With a Perception check he may consult the Cherub CD table with regard to ANY Elohite. If an Elohite is in danger of becoming personally unbalanced or is about to perform an action that is not objectivley sound (Elohite's point of view on this one, not Aequalis's), Aequalis will know about it. Balancing Touch: Aequalis can with a touch and a Will roll, bestow his Choirs objectivity and balance on another being for CD Hours. Demons can resist with a Will Roll minus the essence spent on the Attunement. Human get no such roll and Angels get a roll at base to resist, except Elohim they get no roll at all. It tunes him to the stability of a perfect Elohite. They become emotionless voids, unable to express even the basest of human emotions. Logic guides every word and movement. This negates all emotional damage caused by natural or supernatural means (Habbalites, Entropy songs, etc). Habbalites affected by this become unable to use their Resonance. Elohim who are affected become physically unable to violate the Dissonance conditions of their Choir and Superior. After the Attunement has lapsed the Elohite loses one point of Dissonance. Equalise: By spending 3 Essence Aequalis can take to numerical values and either raise the lower number or lower the higher number to balance them out. Eg, two clips of bullets, one with 1 the other with 10. Aequalis can raise the clip with 1 to 10 or lower the clip with 10 to 1. Aequalis needs LOS on both items and a round of concentration. Yes this does work with Celestials and Essence. Aequalis needs to know both values before the Attunement can work. If a Demon walks up to Aequalis, he can't just suck all of his Essence away unless he finds out how much he has first. Distinctions: Choir Angel History: The third Choir Angel to be created. Aequalis was a quiet servitor of Dominic before he heard the calling of God. It is commonly accepted that God just created the Choir Angels when the Fall happened. Aequalis is the acception to the rule. He was created by Dominic just *before* the fall. He was not Wordbound nor allowed to leave the Council Spires. He fufilled various tasks in Dominic's service but he never saw the outside Heaven. All of his information was given to him by Dominic himself. He had very little contact with other Angels, and when he did meet them they never had the chance to talk. He never formed his own opinion about the outside world. He stayed within the confines of the Cathedral and worked. That was his existance. Dominic will never talk about Aequalis now that he is a Choir Angel. Aequalis one day heard the sounds of fighting in the Spires. For the first time in his existance he felt compelled to break Dominic's sanction of never leaving. He got up out of his chair, scattering thousands of files to the floor and opened his door. What he saw didn't faze him at all. Angels fighting other Angels, blood running over the serenity of the building. Aequalis just looked and blinked. He didn't see anything wrong with it. How was he to know if this *wasn't* what normally happened in Heaven? He quietly shut his door and went about picking up his files. He sat down and his whole world changed. Aequalis was suddenly aware of a presence within the room, not like when Dominic came, something more powerful. Aequalis looked up with untarnished eyes and said, "Yes, I understand." There had been no statement made, no question asked. But Aequalis knew what he was and what he had to do. Soon after the fighting stopped Aequalis just left the Council Spires. Dominic watched him go and assigned someone else to keep watch over the filing. Aequalis ventured off with the other of the Choir Angels into legend. He shows up in Jean's office from time to time, always leaving as someone else comes in. Khalid has yet to meet him and some say he is dreading the day he does. - -Alex _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Feb 2001 10:03:49 -0500 From: Elizabeth McCoy Subject: IN> [ADMIN] AOL Still Bad As far as I know, there is still no recourse for users of AOL 6.0 to _not_ use HTML in their email. Though even the newly fledged one in the IN IOU game (which I wish I could run more, *sniffle*) was busy spending all it's hosts money on the newly-discovered corporeal pleasure of ice cream. (It's all its Prince's fault; he gave it some while debriefing it.) >>And even if a Shedite did manage to possess an animal, just _think_ >>what Jordi would do... > >Given the risks to Heaven if Shedim could learn to pull such tricks, I >imagine Jordi would have a lot of help putting said Shedite down (not to >mention such a thing might be feared as a precursor to a new Legion). There is another factor, though -- ease of possession, and disturbance. Shedim either cause rather a lot of disturbance (at least 7 notes!) when they go celestial, which they must do to take possession of a new host quickly. This is noisy, and furthermore, a human has a chance of _seeing_ the demon! (Perception + Shedite's CelForces + 2 (for leaving a host).) Even a Will 1 person is going to have a target number of 4, and that's for a 1 CelForce Shedite! They _can_ ooze (Infernal Player's Guide, Shedite section), but that takes something like seconds equal to the Shedite's total Forces (rounded up to the nearest round if in combat, IIRC), with contact during this time. This may pose problems unless they have access to a massage parlor, or someone else who can excuse long contact. Not to mention that if the new potential host resists, the Shedite (if jumping, and not oozing) must attempt to possess someone else -- a Shedite with bad luck might get yanked back to its Heart! Meanwhile, Kyriotates can jump silently from host to host, even through the phone lines! Even when a Kyrio is moving its entire Forces from a single host into another single host, it makes the leap silently. As for their dissonance conditions, mental harm can count -- while a Kyriotate is best served by keeping animals, it's less well served by keeping humans who might have a life to get back to. ("Where have you _been,_ darling??") Another thing to note is that even jumping from animal to animal can be better for the animal in that its routine isn't disrupted, and demons have less chance of targeting it as a host! (Even ammo is limited -- do you _really_ want to try spraying the flock of pigeons, hoping to play Hit The Host? Think of all those dying animals, too, and the disturbance!) Kyriotates, since they can generally keep at least one host (Kyrios are better than celphones for staying in contact!), are less worried about being bounced by one potential host -- they don't have to risk bad luck sending them back to their Hearts, so much. (Kyrios also risk hostile Interventions more, which is another reason Shedim might not want to play host-jumping as much. But hey, they're Kyrios, they get to play. O:> ) Aside from that, though, it would make sense if Shedim body-hopped more, while Kyrios didn't. O;> (And then there's the Game Shedite NPC who was playing "break the trail" by paying a prositute to wait for the innocent host to come back from scoping out an angel-stronghold. Transfer to the prostitute via an ooze, rely on the bargain made earlier to send the confused innocent home, then find a bum on the street and touch _it_ for a while. Then it (still in the prostitute) went back to the woman's usual corner and hung out till a real customer approached. Then its waiting Djinn partner (who _knew_ what host it was in) came up in the role of a drug dealer, suggesting a threesome... Drug the non-host, report to the partner, and take the pick of which host to stick with. Wouldn't _that_ just drive a trail nuts?
