Thus, they cannot fall. The idea is that you cannot fall off the floor. " I personally disagree. I think Malakim are Angels that developped in response to the Fall, much as natural anti-bodies against a previously unknown disease. And Micheal was the one who caused them to develop. The main element that sparked the War in Heaven wasn't Lucifer killing the Metatron, it was when Lucifer tried to convince Michael to join the rebellion against God. An attempt doomed to fail from the start, as ol' Mikey was too honorable to turn from God, too brave to back down against the Lightbringer, and too strong to be defeated by Lucifer. Uriel, David, and many other Celestials who felt disoriented and frightened by the events of the Fall (Uriel saw the Symphony become impure before his eyes, and David saw the Host divide and weaken, for exemple), turned to look at Michael, who remained Strong, a pillar of Honor and Virtue standing tall in the maelstrom of the War. They saw his honor. They saw his courage. They saw his Strength. To give themselves heart against the despair of Lucifer's revolt, they became more like Michael. They vowed to keep their Honor by not suffering an Evil like Lucifer's rebels to live. They vowed never to surrender to Evil. They all vowed to strengthen themselves in their own way, no matter what the pain might be to do so. And so those angels became the few, the virtuous, the Malakim. That's my theory on Malakim Origin, anyways: They aren't Demons, they're the closest thing Heaven could produce to clones of Michael. Those with Eunuch/6 have vessels that resemble the celestial form of an Elohite (who are, oddly enough, immune to this Discord): the celestial form of a character with Eunuch/6 is simply bizarre. Everyone except an Elohite will react at -2 per level (Servitors of Lust will react at -4). Andrealphus is very, very fond of handing this out as a punishment: most Servitors of Lust would rather punch a Malakite of Stone in the nose than get saddled with this Discord. The only exceptions to this rule are the Shedim: they find that a sudden loss of sexual function in their mounts can lead to the most interesting scenarios... Hopefully, I've attributed properly. Note that I'll be probably adding to this list until everybody's tired of seeing them. :) Also note that eventually I'll be writing them up as full NPCs. I was thinking of making the older Cadre members a little more powerful than normal Saints: 8 Forces for the experienced ones, 9 Forces for 'St.' Isaac and Saints Edward, John RR and Robert. That's just a thought, though. Moe More Cadre members St. Edward (Saint of the Sword) St. Robert's right hand man, St. Edward began as a Saint of Lightning, but eventually ended up serving Laurence. Laurence is very happy to have him, for St. Edward is honorable and gallant and pays his debts, even to spiders and worms. He still retains an interest in Engineering and R&D, however. St. Edward is a fair hand with a sword and starkly dangerous with a gun, and often gets sent on missions for the Cadre when a cool head and keen eye are needed. His vessel has gray eyes and the look of eagles, and seems to have its head turned by red-haired nurses on more than one occasion. The rumors that he has a relic in the form of a jeweled bracelet, containing the Ethereal and Celestial Song of Tongues and a number of Talisman skills... Well, rumors start so easily. (Concept and original wording by Eric Alfred Burns and Chuckg) St. Linebarger (Saint of Destiny) Actually, 'Saint of Destiny' is just his current position: St. Linebarger's worked for Zadkiel, Jean and Michael at various times. They all liked his work, but the Saint enjoys a change of pace from time to time. He jumped at the chance to get involved with the Cadre: once he convinced St. Robert of the need for a psychological operations specialist (it wasn't too hard), getting the position was easy. St. Linebarger usually gets the missions where violence is a bad idea: give him a week, and he'll have the targets chasing their own tails and at war with each other. He's also notable for his cheerful lobbying to change the Cadre's name. Using the legend of the Malakim is to promote fear is a useful tool, true: however, Hell is starting to realize what the Cadre really is, so that trick isn't as potent anymore. Renaming the group to, say, "The Instrumentality" would show a proper understanding of Heaven's ideals, and cut down the potential confusion. The rest of the Cadre smile, nod and ignore. (Original concept by Prodigal) St. Clive (Saint of Faith) He's usually called "St. Jack" (at his own request), and until quite recently worked for Destiny. Thankfully, Khalid's more reasonable these days. St. Jack is considered one of the best human experts on Infernal psychology, which is why he spends so little time in the field. Frankly, he's more useful as St. John Ronald Ruell's research partner (Infernal Psychology is St. John's worst subject). Interestingly enough, St. Jack also happens to be on very good terms with Nalsa, a Cherub Master of the Beast within and one of Jordi's senior Word-bounds. This means that the Cadre can sometimes draw on the Archangel of Animals' resources. Of course, this will depend on how important a mission might be for Jordi, how glib St. Jack can be, and - most importantly - what kind of mood Nalsa's in. After all, he's not a tame lion. (Original Concept by Earl Wajenberg) St. Ralph (Saint of Judgement) Dominic, once he heard that this group was starting up, immediately sent St. Ralph over. The Cadre was happy to have him: St. Ralph combines an unwavering devotion to justice with a keen eye for hypocrisy. He was also a crackerjack writer, which is really the best way to ensure fitting in with this group. St. Ralph is an infiltrator. A very good one: he has the rare ability to be everywhere and see anything without it registering on anyone's mental radar. He's also extremely patient. St. Ralph and St. Garrett often work together: the two can attend a party or social function and, by the end of the night, come out with a full picture of the personal relationships, feuds, gossip and rumors of everyone from the host to the busboys. When St. Ralph chooses to be discreet, he's so discreet that he becomes, for all practical purposes, invisible... St. Gordon (Saint of War) St. Gordon (see below) and St. Lyon are the newest recruits to the Cadre, and haven't yet participated in any solo missions. They're both looking forward to fighting the War more directly. St. Gordon, like the Other St. Howard, is a Saint of War, but perhaps a little colder about it - his honor is that of the warrior, and he will make war out a sense of grim determination, rather than through exuberance. However, the Saint must have a lighter side: as part of his training, St. Gordon worked in the Marches (temporarily assigned to Christopher, who promptly assigned him to Blandine). The self-revelatory nature of the ethereal plane can be very interesting: apparently, St. Gordon sees himself, at heart, as a sentient teddy bear. (Original Concept by Eric Alfred Burns) St. Lyon (Saint of Stone) The other new recruit, St. Lyon found himself most comfortable with David as a patron. Possibly it was because the Archangel of Stone has always been associated with both the physical and the metaphysical constructions of societies. However, it might be because, like David, St. Lyon is determined to make sure that some of the societal trends he saw towards the end of his corporeal life be firmly reversed, lest Darkness Fall... ===== Liber Licentiae Moeticae: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 03/04/01(this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I've done some checking up on the songs in my local store's "Liber Canticorum", and I added a short reference to the song of Blades in the write-up of this text. Tell me what you think, please. Numinous Gladius Songs of Weaponry. These songs are an alternative to the Numinous Corpus that Laurence commissioned Jean and Eli to develop during the Dark Ages, to give to Angelic agents, at a time when the Numinous Corpus made Celestials too obvious (Nobody believed someone with large claws was an Angel), and weapon Artifacts for every agent where a strain on the budget at times. Laurence taught Eli and Jean his Song of Blades (Liber Canticorum, p??), and they developped the Numinous Gladius, variations of the Corpus. Many Angels of the warring faction soon adopted these short songs, as a way of distincting themselves from the Numinous Corpus-using Demons. Some time later, Vapula managed to reverse-engineer the concept of the Numinous Gladius, thanks in part to the Song of Blades information extracted from a few fallen Servitors of War Baal gave him to work with. So now these songs are available to Demons as well as Angels. Still, most demons stick with the Numinous Corpus, as they feel the ability to shape their forms at will suits their selfish attitude better. Still, those Demons who prefer a more discreet approach to combat make use to the Numious Gladius, so as to avoid attracting Human (or Celestial) attention with large claws. Instead of creating weapons from a Vessel's bio-mass, the Numinous Gladius use the raw elemental mass to create artificial armors and weapons. Otherwise, they work much like the Numinous Corpus songs do: Spend a single point of essence, make the song check, and if you do, you can use activate or disactivate the Weapon at will for a number of Hours equal to the check digit. Attacks made with the Numinous Gladius are made using the character's Weapon skills. Armor: Once activated, this Song allows you to cover yourself with a suit of armor with a Protection equal to the song level, cumulative with the Corporeal Song of Form. The armor made with this Numinous varies in appearance according to the Protection offered; Level 1 Armors resemble overcoats or leather jackets, while Level/6 Armors are suits of fullplate armors or advanced battlearmors. All armors have markings reflecting your celestial heritage, be they a crucifix cut-out sown onto the back of a leather jacket or an armored styled to resemble a Horned Demon. Virtuosos also add a shield, crest or standard with more personalized markings, showing Choir/Band, Superior, and Word through Heraldry symbolism. A Malakite of Flowers with the Word of Necessary Violence, for exemple, would display a sword with black wings on the hilt, still in a sheath wrapped in flowery vines, binding the blade. Blades: This song works much like the Corpus of Claws; This allows you to create a hand-held blade weapon out of thin air, such as a dagger or sword, and with a Power of +1 for every level of this ability. All attacks made with this ability need to be made with the appropriate Weapon Skill. The blades made with this Atunement can be affected by the Blessed Blade of Laurence attunment, which makes this Numinous Gladius a favored ability of Servitors of the Sword. Axes: A variant of the Numinous Gladius of Blades created by Michael himself (He was glad to finally be able to create Axes at will), this song allows you to create a Small Axe (With a Power of +2 and an Accuracy of 0 at Level 1) or a Battle Axe (With a Power of +4 and an accuracy of -1 at Level 4 and Beyond). Missile: This song allows you to create muscle-powered projectile weapons (Throwing Knives, Bow and Arrows, Throwing Stars) which can be used to attack an opponent at a range of yards equal to your corporeal Forces. The accuracy and Power of this weapon is equal to the level purchased. Firearms: This more modern song comes in three variants, each one allowing the Celestial to create fully loaded firearms out of thin air, at the rate of one gun per point of Essence expended. As long as the song is in effect, it only takes a Turn of concentration and the expense of 2 Body hits to re-load the weapon. At level one, this song creates a handgun with the stats of a common Revolver (IN p 65); at level two, it creates a more powerful handgun, with a +3 to Power; at level three, it allows you to create a submachinegun-like weapon with the stats of the Uzi (IN p 65), or a Shotgun; at level four, you can create a pump rifle or a Carbine Rifle; at level five, you can create a machinegun rifle (like the M16 on IN p65). ------------------------------ End of in_nomine-digest V1 #2124 ******************************** The material here is (C) 2001 Steve Jackson Games, Incorporated.
