Re: IN> Question about Judgement... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2001 23:54:56 -0600 (CST) From: Benjamin Acosta Subject: IN> I'd like to thank the Academy... It's that time of year again. The time when the stars come out. The time when all eyes are focused on one stage. The time when some of the most prestigious status symbols in the Symphony are given out. No, I'm not talking about the Oscars. I'm talking about the Lucy's, one of the most famous and coveted awards in Hell. The Lucy's are given out by the Academy of Media Arts and Sciences, whose members consist of the most important and influential players of the Media. Unlike most awards of the Media, having won a Lucy actually means something to demons of other Words. They are, after all, given out by the movers and shakers of the Media, which means any winner has won the favor or at least the notice of many powerful and highly ranked demons. Just to be nominated is considered a sign you're going places The Lucy's are small golden statuettes of Lucifer awarded to demons for excellence in various categories. They are indestructible and summonable. Other than that, they have no special powers or abilities. Not that they need any. The prestige value alone makes them highly desirable. Every year a number of them are awarded to recognize excellence in various categories. To insure fairness (or at least unbiased unfairness) the results of the Academy vote is tabulated by the accounting division of The Game in their spare time. Some of the more prestigious categories include Best Overall Production, Best Male Role, Best Recritment of a Soldier, Best Recruitment of an Angel, Best Defeat of Heavenly Opposition, Best Adaptation of Ethereal Source Material, Best New Talent, and Best Production of Another Word. Adventure Ideas: The Lucy's are a prize that many would do anything for. And with the nominees being demons, anything means anything. Every nominee is going to sway the voters anyway they can, from offering bribes and doing favors for various Academy members to setting their opponents up to look bad. Demonic PC's could be recruited for such operations while those of any type could be caught in the crossfire of such efforts. The Awards Ceremony is a gala event which requires a lot of work and effort to pull off. Guess who gets shanghied to do some of the work. Yup, you guessed right, the PC's. From rounding up entertainment to helping put together security arrangments, the PC's are in the thick of things this year. They'l have a number of interesting things to deal with, such as demons trying to crash the proceedings, Theft Servitors who wish to steal the Lucy's, paranoid djinn of The Game guarding the envelopes, Dark Humor demons wanting to play attention getting pranks, and of course, the egos of the various presenters, performers, and nominees of The Media. It's almost enough to make one quit show business. The parties after the Awards are as big a deal as the Lucy's themselves. Various important demons will try to get movers and shakers to attend their party. PC's could get roped into attempts to get a particular high ranking demon to go to a certain party. Or sabatoge someone's party to make them look bad in front of the VIP's. They could try to crash one of the parties themselves, for a chance to hobnob with the beautiful demons and make some contacts. And of course, every party will need caterers, security, servers, and other support staff, who would have to deal with other demons trying all of the above. Calamity of calamities! One of the favorite nominees for Best Overall Production has gone missing, and his Heart has been found broken. If he was eliminated by the competion, there wouldn't be a problem, but some in the Academy suspect that he might actually have gone Renegade in order to seek Redemption. If he's exposed doing so, it would be a major embarasment for the Academy. And if he actually publicly succeeded, it would be an even worse one. It's the job of the PC's to find the nominee and bring him back to attend the Ceremony before The Game catches him or he actually redeems. If they can't bring him back, they at least have to quash any evidence of his defection, convince him to not go public, and make everyone else think he was killed. This is one news story the Media does not want covered. Ben, Elohite of Eli Angel of Neat Ideas ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Mar 2001 03:12:00 -0500 (EST) From: "Rev. I've often thought that if you could get the different circles and orders to work together better, they could be a real force for peaceful change in the world. Things have been going pretty well for me, too. I ran into an old friend last week (the one you always thought was cute), and we had dinner and talked about old times. And, of course, this time of year is always a busy time for me - so much to do, so little time to do it, and so much joy to be had in the doing. I also just heard of this scientist who's doing wonderful things with controlled pollenation (using trained bees, believe it or not!), so I'm pretty excited about that. I'll wrap this up now, since I know you're busy. But I hope you're not too busy to write back! Just leave it with the same person as last time - he's still there. There is little more irritating in Hell than a sucessful soldier of Hell story that's true. There is absolutely nothing more irritating than a truely sucessful soldier of Hell who gets away with it without suffering supposaldy eternal damnation. Simon Curwen just may be that man and it would be extremely annoying to Hell should he do so and to a great extent also annoying to Heaven who will probably be hard pressed to forgive and forget Simon's previous actions; that's okay with him as he has very little sympathy for them either. Simon Curwen however has had his fill of Hell and is now looking however for greener pastures than his Prince can provide him and ironically because he is deeply in love still with his superior demon and because Asmodeus has decided to bestow upon him the "ultimate reward" that Simon wants desperately to get rid of. Simon first of all is an extremely old human being, specifically he's about four hundred years old and his first real memories that don't blur are training to be a Rabbi in Aragon Spain around the year 1492 which frankly was a very bad time to be a Jew in Spain given the recent unification under two rather fanatically Catholic monarchs. Simon's experience was distinctly unpleasant as well because there were involved several Elohim of the Sword who viewed the matter of deportation part of the necessity of establishing universal Catholicism as a necessary causalty, what Laurence would have said to them once the mission was over is a matter for the theologians as Simon openly refused to leave and was placed on trial for hearsay. Simon likely would have fufilled his destiny by being matyred for his faith and standing as an example for Jews everywhere and Christians alike to the dangers of the Inquisition had not the intervention of a demoness changed everything, specifically Staciel. The future Demoness of Intrigue was impersonating a nun and had been charged by her Demon Prince with sowing the seeds of political unrest as she came to Simon and offered him his freedom in exchange for his aid in creating an underground for the persecuted (and thus making many innocents geased to Hell while furthering the Inquisitions paranoia and giving Hell an excellent chance to use it as an escape root and cover for activities). The endeavor proved a rousing sucess as the Elohim fell into Habbalah along with several servants of Judgement, Staciel suceeded in fanning paranoia so that Lucifer himself awarded her a word, and Simon founded a Jewish based sorceror's guild based on avenging oneself on the Christian Church that declared itself spritual leaders despite murderous crimes called the Fires of Absalom (for obvious reasons if you are a Rabbi). The endeavor would have gone off indeed without a hitch if not for the fact that Simon in his devotion had actually fallen in love with the Lilim spymistress and to an extent she began to care for her devoted soldier in return, granting him through the song of corpreality immortality. It is not necessary to describe Simon's next activities but for the next three hundred odd years Simon weaved in and out of human society working with demonic tools for establishing roles as he continually used his contacts in the Fires of Absalom and later other Hellish Sorceror's society to fan the flames of intrigue in the noble courts of Austria, then the Reactions in France where he was a Revolutionary of the Assembly and later Russia where he was a Bolshievik. Always with Staciel serving as his personal guide and mistress, rewarding him regurarely with her attentions and secrets of Hell. Asmodeus has much of his attention routinely devoted to judging demons and destroying Renegades so he actually assigned the soldier the "minor" works of increasing the Earthly aspects of his word such as legalism, intrigue, and paranoia which gave Simon a rather large ammount of autonomy given Asmodeus unlike many demon princes was perfectly satisfied with the idea a human being could never rise above his station and thus would need less effort tending (i.e. squashing as the less than an insect that he is). In an unprecendented move he was allowed to attend meetings in Hell where he appeared little more than another damned soul to most and to very disturbed (and observant) eyes, a damned soul who was not suffering. Observant and patient beyond all human levels and many diabolicals Simon learned much and finally as he became a world reknowned speaker on historical discoveries that validated that the best governments were those of dictatorships such as Rome and Egypt (of which he desired like all good sorcerors to rule a reborn one of with Staciel as his queen when the smack was laid down by Hell) Asmodeus decided it was time that Simon's expertise be put to better use in that of a Impudite or a Balseraph. Suggested belief that Staciel required a better lover is of course like many, just slanderous gossip from Asmodeus and Asmodeus placed inside Simon's heart a gremlin which will grow every time Simon encourages Asmodeus's word until it finally fledges inside his body and devours his forces completely. Needless to say Simon saw his "elevation to becomming a full demon for his centuries of service" for the absolute complete lie that it was. Unable to access at the creature fully without revealing himself Simon is fairly sure he must destroy the creature some how and find new employment whether in the service of Heaven or the service of one of the Ethereal gods (Set comes to mind) but he recognizes what an implacable enemy hell is and hiding just may well prove to be the best option of a very low selection of good options. Unfortunately love also makes him stupid and he is beggining doubt his own sanity as if some portion of his forces when he is soul killed might continue to love Staciel, that it might be worth it. Needless to say, given his ammount of work, it implies he better work fast to be done before his little parasite has him completely. - -Charlemagne ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Mar 2001 16:27:24 -0500 From: "Charles Phipps" Subject: IN> The Cadre (Part II) > Tame lion OH BRAVO! Unfortunatly a certain young lady is on tv, you know the one, its the show that all the malakim watch, the one where the girl =whomps demonic and vampiric Butt= They know that the show, through sources in the Media, is one of the many things that is draining them of essence, and they know about a fan-con going on in a town real soon, and hey, they have just essence enough for some level 6 vessels. Oh, and some of the Malakim fan-bois are in town... Basically what Kish said; this would generally be something where the Windy got daft and did something where it was acting on its own but implicitly counting on backup in a dumb way. So it would be stuck on Earth to get "a little taste of where such behavior can _lead_ you -- i.e., a place where you can never trust anyone to watch your back for you, and you're always alone, even if you're in a group." The theory is that the angel will learn to appreciate the selfless, group-oriented, "connectedness" mindset that angels are supposed to have. Unless the matter is one in which an Archangel has involved itself, or the matter is Really Utterly Tangled in such a way as to involve Superior politics, the case may never appear before the Council. Indeed, Dominic himself may never _try_ it! He's got plenty of Judges, after all.
