Question withdrawn. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 20:57:58 -0500 From: "Charles Phipps" Subject: IN> The Materialist Box The Materialist Box (The Box of Nicolo Thomas) Artifact lvl ??? In 1589 in Venic, Italy a designer named Nicolo Thomas was a prophet and haunted by frequent visions of God and Hell which drove him to great lengths in understanding the nature of the universe. The young man was a scientist by nature and though all his texts were lost and burned as heresay by his contemporaries the man's holiness was unquestioned for Lucifer frequenty visited his small clock shop and attempted to seduce him unto the Darkness. Nicolo's final conversation with Lucifer was after his wife and three daughtered had been abducted, raped, and murdered outside the city. Lucifer: Pity that... Nicolo: I WILL KILL YOU Lucifer: Try, you cannot affect the substance that I am made of. You are flesh and I am elsewise...we are stopped by barriers between our true selves. Nicolo: Then I will overcome it! Nicolo spent much of the remaining thirteen years of his life working on the Materialist box which became his all consuming posession and when the box did not work and he was dying of plague he cursed the box and someone, either God of Satan, or both heard Nicolo and granted his wish for the box to work as he spirit was bound forever in it's gears. As long as Nicolo remains the gateway between destiny and fate (he achieved both) and yet does not go to Oblivion as a ghost then the Materialist box will continue it's terrible function. Powers The box has two abilities which can be used in a multiple of ways. The first ability costs only one point of essence to perform but can only be done in the presence of a Celestial in his true form. When the box is opened a vortex is opened and the celestial has his flesh stripped away even as it replaced in a horrible affect that only requires a single round to perform. When the process is done, the Celestial is a fully fleshly being and in truth very much the equivalent of an undead....he is an honest to god true dragon in the case of a Balseraph or a living ball of fire in the case of Ofanim but he can be slain by normal weapons forever and cannot adopt a vessel (vessel strength is added to the soul strength hoever). In this form both (un)holy weapons and normal weapons effect them with the added complication that (un)holy wounds do not heal naturally but must be healed with a song, the being now also regenerates at noon. Ribikiel's ascension is believed to be a cure for this condition but thus far all Celestial's exposed to the Materialist box have been slain and they may not be able to summon their Patrons at anything less than a tether (and not ascend certainly anymore without their Superiors). The second ability is far more sinister as it allows a mortal gateway to Heaven and Hell to be opened for a mortal though no one has yet tried the Marches so it is unknown whether or not it would work to allow a gateway to work. The Box comes with the holder and the gateway does not shut to either realm until it is closed. Beings who enter immediately become celestial beings and can interact with Heaven and Hell as any other being might. Celestials which follow through the gateway have the unpleasant surprise awaiting for them that they have been effectively subjected to the Materialist Box's first function and now are as flesh tied as a mummy or vampire. Adventure Hooks * Baal having surveyed the Materialist Box's function has made the decision that it bears investigation, specifically for the possibility of an out and out invasion of the Earth. Given it can transform spirits into men the army of the Damned he has assembled can at last be put to use and against the hordes of mankind will prove particularly effective as the world is plunged into a new Armageddon. They are to recover the box at all costs. * A group of soldiers working for one side or the other have acquired the puzzle box and have put it to a very fashionable use...killing Celestials. Finding a trail of dozens of dead demons and/or angels the bosses of the PCs have decided to put them on the case for eliminating this particular group but unfortunately they're well prepared for anything that can be done vessel wise. - -Charlemagne ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 23:16:02 -0500 (EST) From: "Rev. Sobeit. Moe Scroll of Zoroaster / Book of Crowley Despite the name, this relic isn't unique - or even a scroll, sometimes. It usually appears as a scroll, but more technologically inclined Superiors will provide this relic in book or even laptop form. The relic is essentially a Talisman that can grant the Knowledge (Angels or Demons) skill. Soldiers of God get demon lore: Hellsworn get information on the habits of angels. Both sides prefer that their mortal servants not be exposed to too much information about the Other Side: providing these Talismans can prevent that, while still allowing humans to act effectively. The Knowledge skill will normally provide basic Choir/Band information, the more powerful Words, helpful advice about various types of dissonance and how to recognize either Angelic or Helltongue - in short, the sort of thing that a celestial on either side would reasonably be expected to know. It's generally useless for fully-fledged angels or demons, for that reason, but relievers, imps and gremlins sometimes have a version of this Talisman. Generally, Scrolls of Zoroaster are trustworthier, which is why most Hellsworn will do anything to get their hands on one (knowing your enemy is good. Knowing your master is better). Soldiers of God usually flip through captured Books of Crowley for laughs. When dealing with humans, this Attunement provides a +4 to the Tracking and Detect Lies (the angel can smell fear) skills: also, with a Perception roll the angel may determine a human's basic emotional state at that moment. Celestials don't usually have a personal smell (no sweat glands, no secretions), but usually their clothes or skin pick up enough distinct smells to justify a +2 to Tracking rolls. ===== Liber Licentiae Moeticae: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 03/04/01(this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Worse, he's also finding out that adventures are overrated experiences. Some of the other angels he knows professionally can't seem to get it through their heads - but then, they can get themselves banged up without worrying about the consequences. Still, the Kyriotate isn't about to neglect his duties. He's got a pretty soft one for his first tour: there's a few people that the Domination is supposed to check up on, and Morgan's starting to realize that what he's *really* supposed to be doing is learning how to slip in and out without anyone noticing. It's definitely time for some intensive practice in how to use his resonance. Funny, that's what his teachers said, too. The old coots might have actually had a clue, after all. Go figure. Morgan is a nice guy, all in all, if a bit weird himself (for one thing, he has an actual gender image). However, he's so wet behind the ears that watching him is actively painful for more experienced angels. Several months on the corporeal plane have cured him of most of his original cockiness, though (all that remains is a certain vainglorious public musing about what Word he'll eventually get). He's definitely interested in self-improvement, though: Morgan hasn't even seen a demon yet, and is a bit worried about what will happen when he faces off with one for the first time. The ironic part is that he'll probably do fine, but just _try_ telling him that. All that is known about him is that he was horribly abused by his parents and that information is only known because of the doctor that examined him. The boy's parents are dead and there are no known relatives. The boy, who the staff have taken to calling Todd, is very withdrawn. He doesn't speak except during private counseling sessions and during those, he prefers to interact with an imaginary friend called Mr. Black. There are two things that have gotten the attention of Heaven and Hell. First of all, the boy has a sixth Force. This seems to be a product of the trauma of his life. He would be a good candidate for recruiting as a Soldier, but he's not talking to people yet. The other factor is that the boy's imaginary friend seems to be quite real. One representative each from Beleth and Blandine have tried to make contact with the boy through his dreamscape. Both were torn to pieces by a shadowy figure that called itself Mr. Black. He seems to have the power to use Todd's dreamscape as a source of power and he fights off intruders with a viciousness that is rarely seen in the Marches. So what's going on? Todd's traumatic life has caused him to seek safety and shelter in the Marches. An ethereal spirit took pity on the boy and began to talk to him. The spirit could see what had happened to the boy and was horrified at what it saw. In response, it took the shape of "Mr. Black" and stayed with Todd. The spirit learned how to shape Todd's dreamscape and use it against invaders. The problem is that Todd is not interacting with the real world like he should. Mr. Black refuses to let people talk to the boy unless he is present. He is wary of attempts to bring Todd away from the dreamscape. As it stands, the boy is so secure in his dreamscape that removing Mr. Black by force would harm Todd, perhaps irreprably. Mr. Black isn't truly malicious either; he doesn't want Todd being hurt more than he already is. He has no idea of the damage he is doing to his young "charge" and would be very upset to learn it. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2001 05:58:38 -0800 (PST) From: Michael Walton Subject: Re: IN> Drac/Frank&Wolfy... - --- Cameron McCurry wrote: > What about the other movies out there? I learned that attempting to translate a simple English term like "New Year's Resolutions" into Arabic - especially Arabic rendered in western (phoenetic) characters - is way, way, way, way more trouble than it's worth just to add a little color to a bit of personal-canon. Kids, just say no to online Arabic translation.) Resolutions of Faith Even before his renewed faith and return to the good graces of the Host, Khalid always had a small percentage of his angels placed in the Western lands, working deep inside the cultures which most needed his Word. It was almost three years ago that al-Batin'Nur, one of Khalid's Friends of Man, mentioned something about the Western tradition of "New Year's Resolutions" to his Archangel, at a time when Khalid was feeling quite open to inspiration. Some find it ironic that the only angels who must take a New Year's Resolution are those who serve in a part of the world that does not believe in them. But Khalid is quite aware of the differences between angels and humans, and of the different paths each must take. Upon sunrise on the first day of the Islamic New Year, as each angel of Faith receives his Essence, he must swear a Resolution. It can be any one thing that will be quite difficult to accomplish, or one somewhat-difficult thing to avoid doing. Malakim treat this as an Oath, but it will *always* be limited to a year in scope. When the year is over, Khalid's angels must swear a new Resolution. Khalid frowns on angels repeating Resolutions (though, after a century or so, he'll more than likely begin permitting it). If it is a feat to be accomplished, the angel will receive three Essence upon its completion (as a Rite); but the angel will receive one point of Dissonance for every four months which go by without the feat being completed. If it is something to be avoided, the angel will receive one extra Essence every Sunday (unless he broke his Resolution); but the angel will receive a note of Dissonance every time he breaks his Resolution! In G:IN, this modifies the Servitor Cost of Khalid by -9 points. - -- Rev. Pee Kitty, of the order Malkavian-Dobbsian, Q4B4L! Meow! While not very popular outside of Janus' service, they are available to anyone. All have a duration of the check digit in minutes. Corporeal: This Song causes a strong breeze to waft forth from the performer's hands, with a strength of up to (5 mph times the performer's Corporeal Forces). It will reach out to approximately (10 times the Song's Level) in yards, fading away gradually after that. Ethereal: Evoking the old saying, "Smell the Breeze", this Song causes a soft wind to carry a scent into the area. The scent will not be particularly strong, and is strictly imaginary (i.e., the scent of tear gas will be unpleasant, but have no other effect). The area that can be affected is the performer's Ethereal Forces times the Song Level, in cubic yards. Celestial: This Song binds a zephyr to the performer, keeping the airflow around him tightly controlled. While so affected, no scent will eminate from the performer. Additionally, dust and dirt over a hard surface will *not* be disturbed by his passage. Finally, the performer may add the Song's Level to any roll to resist gases, smoke, etc. Affinity: the Wind Essence Cost: 1 Degree of Disturbance: The check digit. - -- Rev. Eli's mulim nature is one of the main reasons that he's persecuted so heavily by Dominic in original French. Any other important bits left out in transmutation what we should know about? Or am I the only one here who actually gives a damn about preservation of content? And I've completed the translation of character generation from Magna Veritas 3rd ed. Very interesting, I think the original d666 makes a lot more sense with weapons' Power and Accuracy ratings. This, complemented by the /original/ damage system, explains how 1d6+4 damage actually makes sense for use against celestials, instead of being absurdly low. There's no NEED for (un)holy pistols in the original game, because such a weapon needed to combat artifically inflated number of hit points doesn't exist. Combat looks to be faster, more logical in terms of damage, and overall less of a RL time drain as in the American game. So, why was the damage system changed at all? Because the d666 system was changed? Why was the d666 system changed? Because forces were added and the characteristics were changed? Because SJGames doesn't believe in social attributes? ??? - -Perry perrylloyd@hotmail.com pl312993@oak.cats.ohiou.edu http://www.geocities.com/llloyd.geo "And that's the hardest thing for a human being to do - be wrong.
