Princes of Hell: For some time now many of you have had the hobby of trying to make Malakim Fall. While amusing, and occasionally productive in some tangential way, the efforts themselves have had no noticeable effect towards their intended goals. In the future, such projects will be looked upon less favorably, although demons with initiative and creativity are still invited to try. Rather, may I suggest that you attempt to create a being of Hell which cannot Redeem? L. There's your starting line. Could it be done? (IMC, no -- in a Dark one, maybe. There are Undead, or damned souls, but those are humans, and fragile compared to demons.) What would the Demon Princes do about it? Their efforts could get most... foul. Then, of course, what would Heaven do about what the Demon Princes were doing? And, if you allow one or more of the Princes to achieve their goal, or even a semblance of their goal, what is the result? I figured this might be interesting ponderance fodder. If, in the above example, the Brother had been specifically assigned to watch over and keep his brother out of trouble, and he failed to do so, than he was responsible committing a crime. Or if he was aware of the crime, and did nothing, then again, he is responsible for a crime. That seems to be what happened to the grigori, more or less. Even those who were not specifically guilty of anything else, may not have done enough to bring justice to the ones who were guilty of the greatest crimes. So, (as far as Dominic is concerned) they were all sufficiently guilty of something, to warrant throwing them all out of heaven. Unless, of course, he's up to something. -Daiv ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 10:51:42 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Walton Subject: Re: IN> Re: Hell's Plan for beating Heaven > Yeah, the Light of Heaven is a bit of a killer. The way I read the source material, the Light of Heaven is a background feature of the realm. It's everywhere, but strongest as one gets closer to God (the ultimate source of that light). Which means that Lucifer couldn't possibly have created the effect. Which also means that any attempt by demons to climb Jacob's Ladder will probably end badly. ===== Michael Walton, #9805-068 None of your plans for success will work unless you do. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? This reminds me of a passage from "The Screwtape Letters" by C. S. Lewis, where the demon Screwtape reminds his nephew Wormwood that humans have nothing like the "that direct perception of the Enemy which we, unhappily, cannot avoid, and which forms the permanent background of pain to our lives." So, for Screwtape, in IN terms, the Light of Heaven even permeates Hell. Probably Lewis was thinking of a much older saying (I forget whose) that the fire of Hell is the light of God as seen by those who reject it. OK, to clean up my own mess as much as possible, I suggest the following. It's true that the Dissonance condition predates both the Fall and technological society, so neither flashlights nor demonic interference would've been taken into consideration. However, if you must have Lighties as PC's or frequently-appearing NPC's w/o having them confined to Heaven or dragging along a bodygaurd, you could alter the Dissonance condition to not apply to _unnecessary_ light sources. Thus, an angel of Light could flick the light switch off during daylight hours as long as the shades weren't drawn. He could also turn off his flashlight if he had the Corporeal Song of Sight active. That change preserves the spirit of the original Dissonance condition without making it unplayable. ===== Michael Walton, #9805-068 None of your plans for success will work unless you do. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Of course, the mechanics would be a real pain. But yes, i think a well done IN miniature game would definitely interest me. Come to think of it, a Skirmish level game (as opposed to War Game; Games workshop Mordhiem versus Warhmmer 40000)) would be pretty cool too... Maybe even more doable, somehow... OH! And just for fun, Do all the figures as Celestial Forms!! I would definitely be way into that. Just how much fun it would be to Paint them, all by itself, would give me a good reason to buy into it. -Daiv, Tech Writer in service to Coffee, in search of a superior. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 20:04:57 -0000 From: "cassandra benner" Subject: IN> Re: table top IN skirmish game Well, mordenheim is out and doing ok.. However, the ad&d CHAINMAIL skirmish game is due out soon... Will there be a whitewolf skirmish game... (ive seen figures about) Shadowrun... (there was one but it failed) All of these would be cool, but IN Operation Earth would be real good... expansion sets for etherials, a diff box set for a diff pantheon, box sets of bands, box sets for angels and huuuuuuge models for AA's and DP's. AND modelks from other settings are good to use too.. all those deamons i warhammer and others.... :) Cheers ive an idea now.. >Elizabeth McCoy wrote: > > > > At 8:48 AM -0700 5/17/01, Maurice Lane wrote: > > >Armageddon, the Wargame. > > > > Ze spouse, he was thinking it would be fun to have one > > of those, if only for the excuse to say, "Send in the > > Ninth Succubus Squad to retake Shal-Mari!" > > > > >Hell, we could even get minis out of it. > > > > Mmmmmmmmmmm. > > > > --Beth, typing w/a uncoopertive baby (iolanthe) causing typos. > > arcangel is nursing a trout with ARMS! Canonically, that can't happen, but the Attunement fits so *perfectly* with the Word.... - -- Casca _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 13:14:26 -0700 From: "Phillip" Subject: IN> Pudding Words (Not joking. Honest) I was having one of those strange conversations with a good friend of mine again last night when we hit on an interesting concept for a particular sub-category of demons in Hell (though of course it works for angels, too). Okay, as we all know, there are the big Words, like The War, Flowers, and other fun ones like that. Beneath them are other Words that, while not as big necessarily, are still pretty usefull. Beneath them, however, are the truely small Words, that few celestials would want, or at least few that have any serious ambition. Edward and I coined the term Pudding Words, after the origonal demonic Word idea tha spawned the concept (Heksheshi, an Impudite of Haagenti and Demon of Pudding). The amusing part is that in Hell it's a good defensive tactic, too: a Word like that isn't likely to grow into other Words, and so other demons wouldn't feel threatened by his existance, and thus probably wouldn't be wasting resources to kill him. I imagine Lucifer probably appreciates those demons. I mean, it's greating having Princes like Belial, Baal, and everyone else, but the problem is that they're singularly ambitious in a way that usually results in them fighting each other far too often, and that category includes a whole slew of lesser Word-bound, all trying to fight their way to the top. Heksheshi (and others like him), on the other hand, are content; they've found a small niche of selfishness in the Symphony that they truely enjoy, they aren't interested in clawing their way up, they continue to further the War in their own small ways (it's suggested the Bill Cosby might have been one of Heksheshi's vessels), and still they bring in the Essence. All in all, Pudding Word demons are those examples that even in Hell some people have strange obsessions. And they mean less of a headache for the Lightbringer, too. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 13:24:08 -0700 From: "Phillip" Subject: Re: IN> Re: Tactics of Armageddon > OH! The Shedite figure would be a little bag of eyes, teeth, and claws, with an instruction slip telling you to stir them into a glob of rubber cement and let dry. Personally I see that as more Gabriels' bit, myself. I was so tempted to let a line like that slip into the dialogue of a Malakite of Gabriel in a story I'm writing it wasn't funny. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 14:19:14 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Walton Subject: Re: IN> Man, eveyone's quiet today... - --- Whistling in the Dark wrote: > Speaking of which -- anyone planning to be at Baycon in a > week?
