The palace is constantly flooded with paperwork from the other Archangels for the establishment of roles on the Earth and also the handling of prayers from the Earth of which all appear in the Jade palace as letters of various scripts. The cathedral uses these massive letters in part to help influence where Archangels will send their servitors next and numerous saints and relievers serve as Surveyors from the Celestial "home office" to determine where Heaven's influence is needed upon the Earth. The Angel of Prayer is an odd sight in the distinctly eastern flavored domain but he routinely visits to gaze at the flood of requests to the Lord God Almighty (among others though this is not routinely talked about and go usually unless very urgent to the Celestial equivalent of the Dead letter office). While the dreamshades who feed on ancestor veneration are loathed here as well it should be noted the "dead letter office" does not apply to prayers toward dead relatives and the bureaucrats present take special note to see if a saint in question might be willing to visit his descendant with a song or even vessel in some cases whenever possible. The palace is also home to a great number of philosophies on Eastern government and quite a few recent Western government innovators whose loyalty to their positions led to their destinies; it is not uncommon to see Confuscious debating with Thomas Jefferson regarding the rights of man and the recordings of THAT particular conversation is still a favorite audio-book among servitors of the Elohim here. The palace itself is a very pleasurable and staid place but those who visit it must be very mindful of the rather extreme number of rules regarding behavior and requesting a favor from servitors here will take a considerable while as approval goes directly up to no one less than the Archangel himself regarding most matters of import. Because of the importance of roles and prayer in the increasingly urbanized world Jean has been attempting with more success than any Archangel save a fellow Kyriotate could possibly have to influence the Archangel of Domination toward modernizing his office with artifact computers and sorting machinery but the master of the cathedral isn't so much afraid with the new world of being overwhelmed with too many prayers so much as he is actually afraid people will stop praying altogether. The palace celestially speaking is located at the edge of the Eternal City directly down the road from the Halls of Worship and Progress with a direct line to the Library and Litheroy's abbey, somehow in Heaven it all works out. - -Charlemagne ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 20:32:42 -0700 (PDT) From: Maurice Lane Subject: IN> May 11, 2001 (ML) I _will_ catch up, one of these days. This one violates canon, but if we can have a sentient hamster... :) Moe Horse Ghost Corporeal Forces: 2 Strength: 4 Agility: 4 Ethereal Forces: 1 Intelligence: 1 Precision: 3 Celestial Forces: 3 Will: 8 Perception: 4 Skills: Dodge/6, Fighting/6, Running/6, Tactics/6 Focus: A stone torch-holder Horse is, frankly, impossible. Horses don't become ghosts. They also don't have 7 Forces in life. Unfortunately, nobody seemed to explain this to Horse. It's guessed that, in life, Horse was, well, a horse. From its appearance and behavior after death, it was apparently a racehorse that was used in the old holiday of Benididea: at least, that's what the expert (a Greek blessed soul) said, and there's no real reason to disbelieve him. Presumably it died in the middle of a race. Horse has appeared several times over the last few thousand years, and seems to have no other purpose but to manifest, gallop at full speed for as far as its focus will let it, then disappear. During this time, an even more ghostly rider appears; this just seems to be an illusion, because attacking it does nothing to harm Horse. It does anger the ghost, though, who will then proceed to attack in its turn for a minute or two, then disappear. Despite its skill in combat, the Host could easily destroy Horse. However, angels don't do that sort of thing normally: besides, the ghost is a particularly interesting mystery. Unfortunately, nobody's ever been able to figure out how Horse came into existence, or what's keeping it on Earth. As long as no one actually attacks it, Horse doesn't actually harm anyone, so the Host just keeps an eye on it and occasionally assigns somebody to investigate the mystery. Campaign Note: Horse is pretty much meant for local color: as written, it won't have any real effect on the campaign. It's just a ghostly horse that will run like Hell through a scene - several times - for the express purpose of reminding the PCs that there's stuff out there that nobody understands. If the PCs decide to investigate, and the GM feels like giving an answer, the actual reason for Horse will need to be decided. Possibilities include: Horse is actually a fusion of a horse and his rider, who were both killed after winning a race but before the rider could claim his prize, and thus continually search everywhere for it; Horse was, indeed, a mutant 7-Force horse that lost her master and will not rest until she finds his grave; or Horse is actually a fairly clever ethereal that has managed to con the Host for the last thousand years by hiding in plain sight, as it were. Or, indeed, anything that tickles the GM's fancy. Whatever the solution, it should involve a good deal of research and, preferably, treasure of some sort (which will justify combat, if desired): treasure is always a nice touch when doing a ghost story. Sugar cubes are optional. ===== Liber Licentiae Moeticae: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 04/29/01(this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Proceedings paper received... Hey, remember that call for academic papers that I made a week ago? Yup, that's right, the one that went over like a lead balloon. :) I still got one, though: for some bizarre reason, my girlfriend decided that she had to write one. Anyway, it's over 10K and the formatting won't go through, anyway, so I stuck it at: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine/proceedings/DreamsGivenLife.htm I haven't created a Proceedings page yet: not enough interest, frankly. So it goes. :| Moe "BTW, the above represents access to only the main book ... plus, of course, lots and lots of conversations with me." I'm a little lost here. In your campagign, the existence of GOD is a point of doubt and uncertainty, to the point that you have special angels of heresy wandering about heaven trying to convince other angels that the Symphony *isn't*?
