I think a basic look at that one CCG, _Redemption_, might prove a good idea. In it, two players tried to "redeem" Lost Soul cards, while battling various evil things. The basic concept would probably work for IN; instead of a CCG, try a customizable game (a'la Mystick:Domination or INWO, when you consider the factory set) with a deck per Superior. The idea of using Jyhad-style mechanics is nifty (as Jyhad is up there with L5R in the "good multiplayer" category), but instead of attempting to drain an opponents resources, it would involve attempting various agendas that would serve Heaven/Hell in general and your Superior in particular. This would include leading mortals to Destinies/Fates, establishing Tethers, and other "permanent" moves. (Action cards would represent general influence moves and strikes against the Other Side.) Certain agendas would be worth more points for certain Superiors, making Angel-on-Angel or Demon-on-Demon play possible. And no matter what, I think an Intervention mechanic ought to be in the game. If not IN's d666, then maybe something to do with play of cards, but more complex than a simple "Divine/Infernal Intervention" card. If anyone's discussing this off-list, I wouldn't mind contributing. - --- damienw[et]juno.com "To kill a man between panels is to condemn him to a thousand deaths." - Scott McCloud ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! What are your experiences in this area? Part of it, I think, is that if a demon party is disinclined to cooperate by nature, the game wouldn't be happening. With angels, on the other hand, often the party justification is 'We all serve Heaven.' which isn't necessarily enough. On a related note, we have found in our games that "Angels Do More Damage." Basically, the demon parties are always paranoid, looking over their shoulders for Malakim and trying desperately to avoid unwanted attention from angels and other demons. Angels in our games tend to be a lot less concerned for some reason and as a result will make more noise...also, demons tend to be practical about everything (selfishness tends to do this) while angels are much more willing to let the ends justify the means when the ends are serving Heaven. It's not entirely right, but it happens this way a lot, especially at conventions. Sean p.s. What are your experiences in this area? I've only run angel groups, and they always got along fine. I did have one problem player in one of them, though, but I suspect that he would've been difficult no matter what I was running (angels, demons, or something besides IN). ===== Michael Walton, #9805-068 None of your plans for success will work unless you do. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? This lasts for a number of minutes equal to five x the spirit's Ethereal Forces). Rites: *Sing the national anthem of any nation (all verses). *Inspire troops in battle. The Unknown Soldier is an ancient spirit, possibly as old as war itself. There are confirmed reports of him fighting alongside the Israelites in the taking of the Promised Land. It was only during the 20th century that he was named. The Soldier represents the capacity for heroism within the hearts of common men. He usually appears as a "grunt" soldier (i.e. a buck private, airman basic or seaman). He has been seen in the guise of a grizzled NCO, but never as a commissioned officer. In the past the Unknown Soldier only adopted male guises, but recent years have seen female manifestations; the spirit was a WAC at least once during World War II. It is unknown exactly how the Unknown Soldier came to be allied with Uncle Sam, but the two are often seen together. Angels of Dreams speculate that the pair got together when Arlington National Cemetery became a Tether to Bravery. Naturally, this happened when the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was built. Since Uncle Sam already held Arlington in high regard, alliance with the spirit who held the Tether was only logical. The Unknown Soldier does not serve the Word of America, however; his Word transcends both geographic and ideological boundaries. The Soldier concerns himself with acts of heroism committed by common soldiers everywhere, especially when the hero knows that he'll get no glory from such actions. Those who make supreme sacrifices without ever having their names remembered are his favorites. The Unknown Soldier got his first Tether at Thermopylae thanks to the act of a soldier whose name is forgotten but whose deed lives on. The Soldier has since inspired or assisted acts of bravery in every major nation on Earth, and probably some of the minor ones, too. With full-scale wars becoming less common, he is seen less frequently than before. The last confirmed sighting was during WWII when the Soldier inspired Cook's Mate Dorie Miller to man a machinegun during a Japanese attack. After the battle, both Miller and the Soldier were sent back to the kitchen. The Archangels of War and Stone make no secret of their respect for the Unknown Soldier. Michael and David have issued general "hands off" orders concerning the spirit to all of their angels. The Tsayadim and Laurence's Border Guardians don't feel obligated to abide by such rules, but Malakim who seek out the spirit and Resonate him usually walk away hanging their heads in shame -- the Unknown Soldier's purity may be questioned, but his honor never will be. ===== Michael Walton, #9805-068 None of your plans for success will work unless you do. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Heaven and Hell? they're both as bad as each other. I lived a good life, didn't break the law, worked 9-5 supporting a family. Thought I was set. Ha. right. Turns out the company I worked for was part owned by demons. Well, we all have bosses from hell right? I didn't know that at the time, but apparently ignorance isn't a defence where angels are concerned. It was nothing spectacular. There were no black-winged angels with flaming swords (although I've seen a few of them since). Just three guys in suits. I thought they were IRS or something, since they wanted to look at the financial records and employee details. Being the company accountant, it was my job to deal with them. Gave them everything they wanted, was as helpful as i could be. But I swear on my mothers grave, the ledgers they gave me back didn't match the ledgers i'd given them. Oh, they looked the same, and it was even the same handwriting, but the accounts didn't add up after that. Well, to cut short story shorter, the _real_ IRS turned up out of the blue two days later and shut the company down. I lost my job, my wife left me, and I hit the bottle. A few months later, I was drinking myself into a stupor in some backstreet bar when in walks one of the B*stards who lost me my job. he walks straight over to me, bold as brass and tries to appologise. Well, naturally I swung for him. faster than thought, he grabbed my wrist in a vice-like grip, and pinned my arm to the table. Strong as an Ox wasn't in it. Then all of a sudden I feel all lethargic, and the anger drains out of me. The guy explains that what they did was part of a "Higher Plan", and that he was sorry that they had caused so much "collateral damage". Collateral Damage? They F*cked my life up! Anyway, he says he sought me out because he had seen I had potential to become a Soldier... Yeah, like the army would take an overweight drunkard like me. He said that wasn't what he meant, and then proceeded to explain a little about whats really going on in the world. _Thats_ when i found out i'd been working for demons. He offered me a chance to turn my life around and do something worthwhile. Worthwhile! I was doing fine until him and his halo buddies screwed everything six ways from sunday. But what was I going to say? This was an Angel for god's sake! Well, I told him to go take a flying leap, and walked out of the bar. Seems word travels well between both sides. a few days later, some punk in leather sidles up to me in the street, and requested that i follow him. requested, with a magnum backing it up. Apparently they'd got word of what i'd said to the Angel, and wanted to give me protection, in return for going back to work for them. By now, I was getting a little tired of this. Thankfully I knew the bar he took me to, and knew they were kinda intollerent around here. I leapt back, shouting "Queer!" and pointing at the demon. Sure enough four burly trailer-trash types immediately decided they'd do their civic duty and pound the "fruit" into the ground. I didn't hang around. I always thought we had some measure of control over our lives. Turns out I was dead wrong. Well I'm not going to have some metaphysical War take over my life. Humanity can stand on it's own two feet. Like me. I'm not going to be pushed around, or puppeted. Heh. the angel was right. Now I'm doing something worthwhile. I'm hunting down any of these "Celestials" that are messing with ordinary people, and I'm sending 'em back where they came from. Turns out i'm not the only one who thinks humanity is a no-go area. We (and no, i'm not telling you who the others are) keep tabs on whats going on, warn each other about what the celestials are up to, and if we find them taking advantage of innocent people, we deal with them. I don't care how impressive a Malakite is in close combat, a bazooka shell still turns them to mush. Sure, it's a dangerous life, but what other life have I got? and the way I see it, The more of them we kill, the sooner they learn that we're not to be kicked around. - -FallenSeraph "I still believe in God, but He no longer believes in me..." http://eternalcity.freeservers.com ICQ: 110193631 _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 May 2001 11:09:50 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Walton Subject: Re: IN> Consider: The Defiant I like. ===== Michael Walton, #9805-068 None of your plans for success will work unless you do. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
