The guidelines for your plot seeds are as follows: 1. Word limit: no more than 1000 words (~10K file length) 2. You have to make some reference to each of the three plot ingredients 3. The plot seed must be runnable using only the In Nomine main rulebook, or GURPS: In Nomine ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Jun 2001 14:28:37 -0500 From: Earl Wajenberg Subject: Re: IN> Re:New Choirs/Bands Michael Walton wrote: > Too strict an interpetation of that rule would've robbed > us of Djinn -- remember, they predate Islam. Its Heart, they are informed, is unbroken, but shows only a darkness shot with flickering sparks. Attempts to contact it have failed. (Admittedly, the Archangel himself has not yet been called in, the local Jeanite contact will admit -- it seems that the Kyriotate was, ah, moonlighting a little, for Creation, when it disappeared. No, the contact doesn't know what the favor was.) From the Kyriotate's computer logs (provided by said contact), they have an IP address... The Briefing, Demonic: One of Vapula's Shedim has gone missing, presumed Renegade, and the Genius Prince has offered a Hell-wide reward for its return -- along with the relic computer that all his Shedim get. Since the PCs are in the area where the Shedite was last observed, they are getting advance notice; they have two weeks before the place gets invaded by every snot, squick, and frotling who wants to get noticed by a Prince. Additional torture, bribes, or other forms of pumping Vapulan contacts reveals that the Shedite in question was a defector from Lust, had somehow impressed the Genius Prince, and was granted an _upgraded_ version of Technology's Shedite Band Attunement. Presumably it was given a special mission, too. It's clear what the _theory_ of this exercise is for both groups. In practice... * The IP address leads to www.h1ghheels.com. * H1gh Heels is the local, ah, fetishwear store in the area, specializing in -- obviously -- shoes. Shoes, boots, sandals, and funny little things with straps, stiletto heels, soles that are covered with... interesting textures ...and about a zillion locks. They also do web-ordering, as one of the store's founders is a computer nut. Now, since H1gh Heels has been recently brought to the awareness of the local Moral Majority (by purely coincidental, mundane means -- though there is a natural 6-Force preacher involved in the matter), they've stepped up security. Initial daylight scouting is suggested, which will probably require posing as potential customers. The GM should be _sure_ to play up the strangeness of a fetish-wear shop; even if it does focus on shoes, some of the other stuff in there is bound to be odd enough to shock any celestial but those with intimate experience with, ah, intimacies. There are 3 employed clerks (who are pretty knowledgeable about their stock), and 2 owners who will also work as clerks if someone calls in sick -- and are _very_ knowledgeable. The store is upscale, with the motto, "Safe, Sane, and Consensual," displayed in various places. (Though at least one of the clerks apparently pays only lip-service to this motto; fortunately, that clerk is a not-so-closet submissive and unlikely to hurt anyone else.) What's Really Going On: The Shedite, Dimonah, was indeed a Shedite of Lust. And had long been a patsy for the Game, feeding information to Hades. Upon hearing that certain Andrealphan spies (of _course_ Andre has his own spies...) were moving in on it... it spooked, defecting to Vapula on the grounds that it would be unexpected and maybe the Game wouldn't think to look for it in Tartarus either. Now, Dimonah is, to put it bluntly, a masochist of the first water -- suspect Balseraph of Lust crosswiring. This made it a perfect subject for one of Vapula's _personal_ experiments, which it volunteered for gleefully. Since it survived, it was granted an upgraded computer: a large tower-style, with little spidery legs and manipulators. It's quite self-mobile, and can even manage door-knobs or a couple of stories of wall-climbing! And water-proof. The Shedite insisted. What Dimonah is _supposed_ to be doing is infiltrating computer systems, discovering useful research or potential Soldiers (not to mention back doors where Roles can be started), etc. Its mobility in its computer allows it to climb out the window or otherwise hide itself if the authorities track it back to wherever it's hiding. And it's doing that job. But it's moonlighting in the shop as a great place to discover submissives and encourage them to new heights of masochism. (Most Shedim would start a backrub and move into the backrubed human; this one would rather start a whipping and move into the whipped...) Vapula would frown if he realized that Dimonah has been contacting some "white slavers," and working on some of the store's customers so that they will present themselves "voluntarily," while Dimonah's clandestine bank account is credited a few thousand dollars... Unfortunately, it can't indulge itself that way. When Mishal, the Kyriotate, traced some suspicious activity to a fetish-shop's computer, it thought it could do a favor for one of its Creationer friends at the same time. Unfortunately, when it poured itself into the computer, it triggered certain defenses -- it got sucked into the machine and is trapped there, unable to possess anything else or even return to its Heart. It can _hear_ Songs of Celestial Tongues, but not respond. This wouldn't be so bad, but... Dimonah is trapped in the computer with it, as the Shedite was present when the defenses went up. And since it had neglected to mention where it was setting up shop, precisely, it's now considered Renegade. (That, and the Game _did_ track it. But anyway.) There's one loophole in the defenses -- running the special screen saver will allow the trapped celestials to "converse" with anything typed on the screen. (It's a Dominatrix and Submissive; the Dom is, naturally, Mishal, while the Sub is Dimonah.) Meanwhile, some of the constant customers and staff show signs of Shedite possession, there's a complaint that the computer seems to have picked up some kind of Slow Down virus (or maybe it's the new accounting software?), and the computer is _clearly_ a relic... This _should_ be the right place. Will the celestials arrive in time to rescue their compatriot from a fate kinkier than death? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Jun 2001 17:13:05 -0400 From: "William J. He didn't have his natural Resonance, he wasn't bothered about the possibility of gaining Dissonance from acting subjectively (although I'll grant that he didn't actually seem to *act* subjectively during this vignette), and he now had a code of behavior that dictated Dissonance for taking or avoiding certain other actions. Of course, you could equally well argue that his new dissonance condition was so "natural" to him that he couldn't think clearly about it until it was explained to him. Okay, done now. :^) William ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Jun 2001 14:25:36 -0700 From: Daiv Subject: IN> The nature of Resonance and Dissonance "William J. Note as I have said before, the total absence of my name on any book yet published? Take this as an indication of exactly what authority my opinions carry regarding cannon (i.e., none at all) I think that the nature of resonance and dissonance is actually pretty intrinsic to a newly fledged Celestial, especially to the newly fledged angels. That is, no one has to tell Seraphs that they should not Lie. Quite the contrary, i imagine heaven has classrooms of little elementary school aged Seraphim sitting in chairs, listening to a lecture on what lies are, and why they hurt them so much. Its not that they do not lie. They are born (fledged, created, whatever) not even knowing what a lie /is/, and not having any idea of how to deal with the concept of untruth. This is something they have to learn, and even then, there are those who learn it better than others (the ones who go back for graduate research probably end up serving Janus). By the same token, I would suggest it never occurs to Malakites that they should not suffer evil to Live; the idea of destroying, utterly, the forces of Hell are so bound up in their nature, that no one has to tell them to do it. They have to be taught that it is okay not to do it, when they have been specifically prohibited or ordered otherwise. In short, I would say that, particularly with the forces of Heaven, they have to be taught that they Can violate their own natures (that is, act in a dissonant manner) so that they can be taught how to deal with it (because, sometimes, despite all there is to do about it, dissonance happens, and how scary would that be for those who are not ready to deal with it?) I had better do it _soon_ though, 'cuz after tomorrow my posting becomes erratic (read: "virtually nonexistent") for a while... :) Moe Assassins There is a rumor. Of course, rumors in Hell are about as common as flies around rotten meat (and as about as hard to get rid of), but this particular one is noteworthy, not least because repeating it aloud is a good way to have your Forces scattered. This type of reaction merely gives it legitimacy, of course. The rumor goes that every Prince - every Prince - has, somewhere in his, her or its organization, a traitor to Hell itself. These are not the normal types of traitors, however: they do not spy, they do not sabotage, they do not even provide undercover assistance to angels that find themselves trapped in Hell. Indeed, these traitors are, outwardly and even inwardly, perfect examples of what demons of their particular Words should be. However, should they ever be given a particular sign (and many things have been suggested as being The Sign), each and every one of those Assassins will immediately turn and attempt to assassinate his or her particular Prince. Now, on the face of it this seems absurd: even with complete surprise, how could any mere demon hope to destroy a Prince? Well, the rumor goes on to suggest that all Assassins are highly - very highly - placed (Higher Distinctions and actual Words of their own, at the very least). It's also said that they have all taken care to prove themselves over and over again, allowing themselves to sink into depravity and sin, so that they may pass unsuspected through the legions of Hell. It's even said that they know ... things ... taught to them by Heaven (Michael's name usually crops up at this point): things that will give them the power to fuel one good strike. They certainly would have to know things that would allow them to hide effectively. If these Assassins really exist, then they must be among the maddest entities in existence, and certainly the most fanatical. The problem is, of course, that no Prince quite dares to treat their Dukes as they would mere Servitors - and certainly none of them are willing to have the Game handle the matter for them (after all, according to the rumor there's a Assassin in the Game, too). Demon Princes are not fools, for the most part: they know that a too-vigorous exhibition of suspicion will create plots where none existed before. Each Prince has quietly looked through his, her or its organization, of course, and none of them have found a likely suspect - but that's the point, right? It would be the one that you wouldn't suspect. The usual conclusion drawn is that there may be one organization (or two, or three) that harbors a waiting Assassin, but not theirs. So they brood, and watch out of the corner of their eyes, and usually manage to convince themselves that the entire thing is probably just a particularly good piece of psychological warfare on the part of the Host. No other explanation makes sense, really. Still, there's that last part of the rumor: the part where it's said that at least one Assassin has not only already achieved his mission, but has managed to survive... and may now be a Prince himself, and ready to betray all of Hell, come the Day. This is really the most disquieting bit. After all, forget about Haagenti: no one's really sure where Valefor came from. Or Kronos, for that matter. ===== Liber Licentiae Moeticae: http://www.stormloader.com/users/moelane/innomine.html Last updated 06/05/01(this is usually way out of date) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
