It could be a matter of that particular demonling being mentally unstable to begin with as well. They live in Hell, which is not a good place to keep your sanity. Or to follow up on your idea for a darker campaign, the gremlin is "chosen" by a DP to become a Punisher. 'course, it DOES help maintain the fiction that Hell is 'Purgatory', and I imagine a pragmatic Superior would consider it an acceptable risk if it was held below a certain percentage. Not to mention they'd consider the penitent a bad influence. :) - --- damienw[et]juno.com "To kill a man between panels is to condemn him to a thousand deaths." - Scott McCloud ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Bust it up, Smash it, Slash it, Destroy it one and all!" The Ascension of the Demon Prince of Hardcore to the status of major Prince was a political coo in Hell not seen since the arise of the Demon Prince Saminga. Fufur defeating Belial's demons in a series of "contests" which basically ammounted to whoever could cause the most bloodthirsty and pointless massacres on the Earth resulted in the word of Hardcore becomming increasingly more powerful as the Demon Prince of Fire was caught between his former servitor, his former Superior, and all those whom he had managed to irritate over the past few thousand years. Berift of allies Fufur used his superior understanding of the modern world to engineer the "Great Destruction" which Lucifer took note of proceeded to place the mantle of the Demon Prince of destruction on the upstart Prince. Belial, defeated by Fufur meekly retreated into submission to nurse his pride in hopes of someday returning to eradicate the monster who had taken over his word. Fufur is presently too busy promoting his word to pay attention to the "old fossil" but fully intends to someday destroy the Demon Prince in a manner befitting all the pain and suffering he had to undergo under him as a slave. In the meantime Fufur however has set his sights on a bigger target than the Minor Prince of Fire, the Archangel Eli. Fufur's status in Hell is roughly the equivalent to somewhere underneath Nybbas's but over Samingas, a very powerful force that is still not taken entirely seriously by the forces of Hell but recognized as master of a very powerful word that he is using to the fullest advantage in the modern world. Bar room Brawls, Riots, Concerts where people are trampled to death, Arson which he takes the essence of with a sneering delight, Shootings at work, Terrorism, and even one demonic mainstream gameshow are all encouraged by Fufur in an attempt to desensetize the entire world to the violence of destruction and push the world into what the Demon Prince refers to as "The Next Big Bang.". While only the highest Dukes of Destruction it is well known among his servitors and those with their ear to the ground in Hell that the destruction of EVERYTHING has become Fufur's all consuming passion. Attempts at acquiring nuclear and biological weapons by his servitors have become almost disgustingly frequent and Andrephalus has taken notice Fufur for all his flamboyant posturing may yet be Hell's current greatest danger to bringing about the Apcolypse. It should be noted that aside from Belial Fufur is something akin to a Substitute God among Calabim and the number of Calabim in his service outnumber all of his other members put together perhaps two times over. Fufur while he loves his "brothers" has taken steps to making sure that his "cousins" feel welcome in the mindless entropy as well in hopes of making sure his more detailed plans go well, Calabim and especially Fufur's Calabim, are for the most part living up to their Band's stereotype as mindless thugs. Still one should watch out for the elder Calabim who remember the Demogorgon....they have plans for the darkness. Dissonance It is Dissonant for Servitors of Destruction not to destroy something which offends them which is quite often. The destruction can be delayed for a number of days equal to their forces but at some point they must release their entropic wills to hurt and wound their targets somehow. For instance a servitor of Destruction might be offended at the United States government and for minor irritation might burn a flag but if they are seriously irked they might have to blow up a post office or try and kill a Congressman. Indirect destruction like hiring thugs to do it for you or destroying their reputation works as Fufur recognizes and enjoys the destruction of the spirit every bit as much as physical destruction. Fufur will only remove dissonance garnered by ignoring one's nature after his servitors have gone on an orgy of violence in penance. Servitor Attunements Fufur's previous attunements as the Demon of Hardcore are still functional but his new status as the Prince of Destruction has resulted in him arming a whole new group of servitors with attunements more suited to promoting his broadened destructive nature. In a surprising show of loyalty to those who helped him conquer Belial, he granted his new attunements in addition to his previous ones to them. Also the "Maharajhaship of Hardcore" has been offered up by Fufur as de-facto rulership of the area of Sheol he rules along with all the power that goes with it to whichever of his servitors can hold it against all challengers which he believes serves as a way of thinning his herd. Balseraph Balseraphs of Destruction can whisper such lies as that they cause they're recepients physical harm to hear them! Listening to a Balseraph's "truths" can inflict body hits equal to their resonance roll which manifest as rapid aging, heart attacks, and even physical diseases like leprosey and the flu. Djinn Djinn of Destruction cause whoever they are attuned to feel violently angry and depressed for as long as they are within a yard for every corporeal force they possess. Consider every reaction roll that he has to be one level worse for every celestial force the Djinn has. This makes it distressingly easy for Djinn to get their subjects into fights and to do physical harm to themselves. Fight Club is practically required watching for this Band. Calabim Calabim of Destruction are the rank and file and quite a few officers in Fufur's ranks with the lower ranks forming large "gangs" of murderous thugs that include groups that go angel hunting and the higher ranks including those who run these gangs like their own private armies for goals of the destruction they love. Fufur's band attunement differentiates the Calabim enough that there is almost a feeling that each type of resonance is innately superior and different types of resonances tend to create almost "racial" like friction. Calabim of Destruction can have their resonance take the form of lighting, acid, fire, sonic waves, disease, shrapnel, ice, poison gas, and even nuclear radiation and the Calabim who choose a specific type to attune themselves to will become completely immune to that type of destruction forever more including angelically conjured variants. Habbalah Fufur's Habbalah tend to be either holdovers from Makatiel's and Mariel's cultist days having at last found a prince they feel they can serve or thugs who believe in day to day punishment of everyone or both. Habbalah of Destruction can make a victem "Destructive" for a number of hours equal to the resonance's check digit. What the object of this destruction is the Habbalah has no control over but they will be practically irresitably compelled to do harm to it and other things they despise. Lilim Lilim of Destruction have an attunement exactly the same as Belial's which is no concidence as the terms of Belial's surrender included all the geas he had over his Lilim and most willingly joined though quite a few Lilim find their new master disgusting and uncouth which says more about Furfur than about Belial. Shedim Shedim of Destruction do not have to roll to possess someone currently in the act of destruction whether or not it's cremating a body, destroying a bar, fighting a enemy (including soliders of God battling demons!) or busting rocks in the local penetentary. Impudites Impudites of Destruction serve as Fufur's subtle planners and are strangely marked from their band in their absolute love of watching humans destroy themselves. The Impudites possess the ability to harvest the essence of someone whom they have helped in the destruction of even if they are not physically present with all the person's essence going to them if they kill themselves because of an Impudite's advice and a like ammount of essence from everyone they harm that is also charmed by an Impudite. Underground Boxing rings, Lover's quarrels, and Failed peace negioations. Servitor Attunements Bezerker A servitor of Fufur who invokes this attunement becomes an avatar of destruction as he suddenly feels no pain and gains immediately a "phantom" force in his corporeal stats adding 4 points to any of his abilities he desires for the duration of the combat and requires twice (!!) the number of bodyhits to soul kill or send into trauma (though once the Bezerk ends then if they have not been healed the resulting soul death and trauma shall immediately occur). The only drawback to this ability by Destruction demons standards is after a Bezerker has killed all of his enemy opponents he must make a willpower check to avoid turning on his companions which admittadly many Destruction demons do not see as a disadvantage.... Never run out of Bullets Effectively what the title says a Demon of Hardcore which has this ability can with the expenditure of a point of essence for a pistol, two points for a machine gun, three points for an assault rifle, and five points for a grenade (!!) conjure up a refill of ammuniton for a fight. This attunement does not provide guns but Fufur as a prince believes that if his servitors can't rob/buy/manufacture a firearm by the time he needs to use one then he's better off not in his service (and dead) anyway. Abbatoir This ability is used by Servitors of Hardcore to "dedicate" tethers to the Demon Prince of Destruction and just bases that the Fufur servitors are fond of. For the sacrafice of 5 points of essence per acre (Servitors of Destruction can pool this skill) and a point of essence every day to maintain it a place of land can be dedicated to destruction as it immediately becomes twisted and very dangerous. Grassland will become a terrible swamp with quicksand, alligators, and serpants while an apartment building will become filled with safety hazards, an increase in number of easily accessible weapons, and an attraction to such vermin as wild dogs and rats. Such direct manipulation of the Symphony causes a huge bang so servitors of Hardcore are careful in using this ability but these bases are very useful for expanding the word of Hardcore. Distinctions Fufur actually has one of the clearest heirarchies in all of Hell with every knight in charge of a gang of mortal servitors, 12 or so powerful gremlins/imps, every captain in charge of a squadron of demons in an area, every Baron in charge of three Captains and a entire "turf", every Count in charge of an entire area of expertise in Fufur's organization, and Dukes in charge of large portions of the Earth in addition to likely words and areas of expertise. This leads to a lot of infighting and "trials" by combat for control but the Demon Prince of Destruction is extremely serious about promoting his word and the end of everything that there is an actual documented case of a human being ruling a County before his true nature was discovered and he ended up in Hell as another burning soul. Knight of Slayers Knights of Slayers can smell the weakness whether moral or physical in a person and can identify it by scent Captain of Marauders Captains of Marauders can magnify existing hatreds in a city block sized area to extremely powerful levels by his mere presence as invisible waves of darkness pour from the captain. The oppression can be felt by any attuned to the symphony but identifying it's source may prove very troublesome as a Captain does not even need to promote his position anymore. Baron of the Next Big Bang Same as Captains but entire City Sized areas.... Relations Fufur as a Major Prince is spending a great deal of time trying to get his work in order and is still making mistakes such as overpowering servitors who end up getting destroyed quickly and letting perhaps a few too many of his servitors "hash it out" which causes him to not be as fully respected by Hell as he could be but the fact he brought low Belial is enough that many princes are wary of his rising star. Baal has openly stated that he considers Fufur a great incompetant and a liability and Fufur has commented that he wouldn't mind taking baal's position as commander of Hell's forces but neither is willing to commit their forces to such an undertaking now and Fufur, like it or not, is aware Baal would likely crush him within days no matter what his power. Saminga, Malphas, and Vapula have found eager alliances with Fufur as the Demon Prince of Destruction recognizes that his word benifits from their efforts a great deal. Valefor and Fufur have bonded on common Calabim roots and their mutual love of looting. Nybbas is quick to remind Fufur of whose efforts got him to his present position and Fufur has again been surprisingly generous in hopes of using the Lord of the Television to continue demuring humanity to senseless violence. Finally Asmodeus's persecution of Fufur's followers has turned the Lord of Destructions hatred toward the Game violently, that and that he represents the "establishment". No, I don't think it's been stated as canon at this time.) Concept of Habbalah getting demonlings and subjecting them to, er, "strengthening" situations. The strong survive and turn into "angels." We also have "Habbalite memes" that run around loose -- Habbalah rarely agree _exactly_ on what they're supposed to be doing in Hell, and tend to spread the word via conversion via, well, strength. Strength enough to pound the TRUTH DAMMIT into the skulls of their kin who have become misguided or led astray. (In our Superior Soap Opera, the thoroughly brainwashed Habbalite of Sculpting (formerly of Lust, professional Dom) has coined the notion that the Habbalite Mission is not to punish the weak, or even necessarily winnow them out so that Heaven doesn't get wimps. It's to make humans stronger, by taking them "out into headspace" (he's very BDSM-oriented; it's the ex-Lust thing, you should see his piercings) and bringing them back. Done _properly_, they become stronger and more worthy of Heaven. He's really quite good at indoctrinating this idea into his "Choir"-mates when he can catch some. And he's got some extra authority, since he serves the Malakite Archangel of Sculpting... [It _IS_ a Soap Opera. It is _NOT_ canon. It is fun, though. I make no apologies.
