The Ring of Truth and other Artifacts

(I'm sure I mentioned this earlier. Here it is. I'm going to try to be less spammy on the list in the future but until then here are 3 relic-lets)

Ring of Truth

This simple but useful little relic can come in any form which may be worn, although the most usual types are worked into jewelry. When a point of essence is fed into it the ring warps the symphony around the wearer whenever he tells a lie. This effectively decreases the detect lie skill of all listeners who succeed in a perception roll by the check digit for 10 minutes per point of essence. Seraphim also subtract the check digit from their perception for the purposes of detecting lies, for the duration.

St. Edward's Scales of Justice

St. Edward (Patron Saint of Passionate Defence Advocacy) was given the scales as a gift by a celestial whose vessel he had defended in court, before achieving sainthood in Dominic's service. He assumes that they are divine in origin.

They comprise a small set of scales which can be comfortably held in one hand. One scale-pan is gleaming silver, and the other is tarnished. When the user feeds a point of essence into them, he can recite a list of charges against an accused party, and a list of mitigating circumstances -- at each new charge, the scales will tilt according to the truth in the accusation or the degree of mitigation. Finally he holds up the scales and asks them to determine whether the accused is innocent or guilty. The direction and amount by which the scales tip indicates the degree of punishment or reward which would be appropriate.

Any angel of judgement can call upon St. Edward to appear as an expert witness in any case that is being tried by a triad. This usually happens when two members of a triad are decided upon a death sentence but the third feels strongly against.

Being a dedicated defence lawyer, St. Edward usually tries to weight the scales by phrasing the charges very carefully (ie. 'We are not here to try this man for theft, although he has undoubtably fenced stolen goods.') and his scales have never yet indicated the death penalty.

Celestial Doorbells

This relic is worked into some musical instrument, most usually a small bell of some description. When the chime is played, the player must succeed in a precision + artistry roll to activate the relic, and in some cases it must be a particular tune. If successful, a tether briefly opens to the creator's cathedral or principality, with a symphonic disturbance of the player's total forces minus the check digit. The chimes can each be used only once per day.

Apparently Kobal has recently created a celestial doorbell in the form of an electric guitars, which activates when a user picks out the first chords of 'Stairway to Heaven.'

(Well I thought that was funny.)
